After my non-professional research in the internet I stated I'm a cool winter - and I hate the related colours! For my clothes I prefer warm and quite muted colours and I don't see the point in wearing a cold and bright blue if I just don't like it at all. Your colours fit you perfectly, so however you decided to chose them, you did a great job! But as this is my first UA-cam comment (!) I have something more important to say: For me you are the most inspiring and authentic person when it comes to minimalism and sustainable living! I just love your videos, your attitude and the way you talk about it. In one of your last videos you thought about widening the range of topics and, honestly, you could talk about just everything and I'm sure I'd love it!
I think it's important to realise that all basic colours have both warm and cool versions - vermilion red v. cherry red, grey taupe v. beige taupe, olive green v. apple green etc. Even navy blues can be warm or cool-toned... This doesn't make it easier, but it does mean that anyone can wear all colours, just the variation that is suited to their colouring! I don't see why you can't be a spring without wearing flowery colours, just stay with the warm neutrals (as you do!). The soft mustard yellow and muted old rose tones of your t-shirts certainly suit you, in my opinion. If I were you, I'd avoid black and white, those are colours only winters and summers can really wear well. But a warm dark grey or brown and creams and camels, all those would work instead.
Yes, that is true for most colors I think. But I don't think navy can be warm since it is a blue color which is cold. But red or green can definitely be both. I do avoid white and black but black is so easy and basic that I choose to still have a few pieces, but not nearly face if possible or washed out so that it becomes more of a warm grey☺
@@ecofriendlia Actually, blues can also be warm if you did care to look into it, even though it might not seem like it. I know you have said that you dislike blues on you, and that is your choice obviously!
@@Woeschhuesli Yeah, though artists don't always agree which blue is warm. :D I think green-ish blue is warm. Some may think a purple-ish blue is warm.
@@raapyna8544 That's interesting. I would call Prussian Blue or French Navy pretty warm. I guess it depends whether the green you add to the blue is an emerald or an olive green...and whether the yellow in it is lemon or gold!! Purple can also be a bit difficult - I definitely think an aubergine is a warm purple, most are cooler, unless you have a warm greyish mauve... yes, I can see people might not always agree!!
@@Woeschhuesli My ex-husband was an art major. This conversation and several like it were had between us many, many times. It was interesting to learn how an artist sees color versus someone who just likes looking at colors. On a side note, probably of little interest, we discovered that the undertones to my skin are pink and white. Apparently, most people are vaguely yellow and occasionally pink. He used to underpaint portrait canvases with a wash to help get good skin tones but when he'd underpaint canvases for mine, I'd always be the wrong color. He finally sat me down and tried every color he owned until he came up with a match.
Yeah, that's the thing, isn't it? It's such an individual thing and from my perspective it's all about how you feel. I remember you once wore a navy woollen pullover that previously belonged to your boyfriend, and I thought it suited you very well, even though you don't like the blues. I am cold and blue everyday and I love it. But sometimes I wear a deep yellow t-shirt, that does not go well with either my skin or eyes or hair, but it just makes me so happy 🥰 So, whatever people or a chart tells you, you do you!
I had trouble with these simplistic theories of colour types as well, because they don't really apply to red tones. I then found a link in the comments section of one of these videos, to a colour theory blog specifically for red-heads. That helped a lot! Red is a tone that appears in people of all hair colours and skin tones, because it's not so much a colour, but lack of colour. And it kind of has its own rules of making your hair warm and skin cold or neutral, which can in other theories, contradict. I don't know if I can find the blog again, because I haven't gone back to it since I figured out my colours. But I learned that for me, colours that work are on the cold/neutral-muted side, so wine red, petrol blue, taiga green, and rose gold. I put them together with black, black and white, navy and cold grey. So I have ~8 colours, of which I typically wear 2 or 3 at a time. I have a kind of orangey-blonde hair, petrol blue eyes and neutral pale skin.
Lia, since you like structure, let me suggest a traditional button blouse. Montego makes the ones I wear but any classic cotton blouse is very versatile. I also have a very minimal wardrobe (fewer than a total of forty pieces - includes footwear and bags - which serves all four seasons) but I have four blouses. They go with everything and serve as jackets over t-shirts in warm weather or go under sweaters in cold weather. Cotton breathes and I hand wash and drip dry them on hangers over my bath. This way, they don't need ironing. My figure is also like yours, petite and slim. So, a structured blouse often fits better than big flowy tops. I think you'd like it.
I am also not an expert but I would think that you have a cool undertone to your skin (it is more pinky toned). Justine Lecomte has great tips for this topic.
Would you ever consider a home tour, by room? Minimalist toy collection? We are almost due with our 4th kiddo, and I consider us semi-minimalists, (Live in 750 sq ft with soon to be 6 people), and the buying choices we have. Love your videos!
My clothes color choices ended up over time being dictated by the colors in my tattoos. I have a full sleeve and partial on the other arm, plus a large chest piece. Most bright colors clash with my tattoos and I despise wearing white. Grays though, all shades - and for some odd reason magenta - makes the tattoo colors pop. So all of my tops and sweaters are some shade of gray. For pants, either black or navy, but also some darker gray. It makes getting dressed pretty effortless.
I had to revamp my wardrobe when I dropped from a size L to S (LCHF + IF does those kinds of things to you), and I realized I preferred wearing blues and browns. The only holdouts I still have are garments that technically don't fit me, but would feel like a waste to donate them. But since it's 2020, I'm giving myself permission to get new clothes next year when the lockdown is over and I can get out more often.
I've always struggled with those color quizzes too. I know I don't like black or white and my favorite colors are green and purple. And I know I'm more warm than cool but more to the middle. I just yesterday figured out to think about contrast. I'm a pretty low contrast so I now know why all my really dark browns look bad on me. I'm hoping to sell those and then find a warm medium brown that will look better on me. I'm also thinking brown and green and purple in the right shades will look really nice together (when I eventually find the right shades)
Hi Lia, the sweater you wear in the video: Is it green? I see it grey. ;-) My colours are very different from yours: I don't like brown or beige. Most of my shirts are black. And my mother has decluttered and I get some purple clothes. I like them. I don't like orange or yellow clothes and green must be military green. I don't wear red. Blue is the next colour I want to declutter, but I think you are right: I declutter it from time to time. Okay that is the first time I write in English. Let my know you understand it. All native English speaker: I'm so sorry but my English teacher was not the best one. :-) Bye
When I look at you, I think of a field of golden wheat 🌾.So indeed I think al your beige-golden- light brown sweaters look great on you. Also tge mustard orangy colored t shirt and all light shades but not sparkling white. I'm a very muted winter and I jnow how bad beige and yellow looks on me, so I was just thinking all this time you're so clearly definitely warm tone and you have beautiful clotges! Love all your videos 😊👍💙🌻
It's interesting to watch video about color in minimalism! Thanks Leah!!! 👍 I love minimalism and I have small wardrobe myself, but usually I see a lot of black, white, Jean or beige.. For me, it's not possible! My basic color is the... Purple! And red. It's the base for me. I'm wearing blue Jean, green and little bit yellow too in fall/winter. In spring and summer, it's more white, green, and blue. But I don't like and I don't look good in black. I hate this no-color. Neutral color in general is not my cup of the. I prefer pop colors, it brings me more energy, more fun, more personality! 😏
The best seasonal colour types quiz that I've found is on the concept wardrobes website. There are like three different categories in each season so maybe you're a soft autumn or something.
If you have features of both: autumn and summer, but you are definitely warm type, probably you are just soft/muted autumn, because this is the main assumption about 12 types - you can be pure autumn or autumn closer summer or autumn closer winter (dark). But still we all are different and all those types are spectrum, so it might be confusing if you are somewhere between. I think knowledge that you are warm and muted is a key. All color palets are limited, but if you know features of your colors, you don't need them. Also there are so many tests but most of them are good for nothing, because people who trying to explain the topic usually don't understand it themselves. I do not rely on ready-made solutions found on Internet, in most cases it is a waist of time. Always nice to watch you, greetings.
Yes, that is so true! I think I am soft autumn but a bit lighter than the usual autumn color palette ☺ and these tests are often really bad, you are so right with that also their photo examples are usually very misleading because sometimes they just take pictures with different white balance and then of course people lolk warm or cold but it is not actually their skin, just the picture... 😕
You are speaking of hue, value and saturation. Hue is just different colors, like in rainbow, yellow, green, blue and so on... Value is how much white or black they have in them, dark blue or light blue for example, and saturation is how clear and bright they are, meaning that they are not mixed with gray or any other color if they are highly saturated, or they have decreased saturation by adding gray, so basically how intense they are. Maybe this helps. :)
I had it done years ago and the best thing they did was out a pink piece of fabric against your face or try putting a piece of peach fabric - it was immediately telling. Try those and see it for yourself!
Since I have been working towards a more minimal and sustainable wardrobe...I have discovered I don't like wearing black at all. In the winter here in Canada...it is just all most people wear, pants, tops, coats...everything is black. I don't like black jeans and I don't wear black leggings like most everyone else here. I just don't like black jeans at all. The only black item I really enjoy wearing is my black faux leather moto jacket. I was just so surprised to make this discovery when I started to really be conscious of my wardrobe. I just suddenly realized , I don't have many black items in my wardrobe a all and more importantly I don't like wearing black. Such a shocker...but so freeing.
This color type thing is very interesting but also a bit complex. I do agree with who has spoken before me, that ALL colors have warm and cold tones. Even blue. First I tried finding out my colors with the help of internet, but that is ah...just so confusing...here in Hungary I met a woman who is a "color-adviser", kind of sylist. And in REAL life, at natural daylight with the help of colored shawls, we defined my color type. What I don't take very strictly (I'm bright winter) but actually the result is very visible. Cold and bright colors fit me very well, however I'm really not a person who like to be visible and attractive :D But even for these color types have more neutral tones (black, gray, white, blue etc) what can be worn if they want to hide :) But the key thing is: enjoying the colors whatever we like :) All of them are beautiful.
@@SN-bf4le I mean, I never wore a color and was like "this makes me look sick", maybe bright red tops/dresses make me a bit too pale but the same color lipstick does not have the same effect?? I guess we are the lucky ones haha
You might be "neutral"/slightly warm or olive skinned? This is what I am. I love olive green, dark red, grey and black (because my hair is black and silver). If that helps.
I watched a bunch of UA-cam videos on Kibbe (?) body types, and it has some interesting ideas on how to choose colors, fabrics, and cuts. I liked them a lot for inspiration, especially if you sort of already know your vibe/style. Also, it’s kind of interesting to see why i like the things i like for my body and skin tone, haha. Danke für deinen Einblick! Gut erkannt: Das 4er System ist ungenügend (bin selbst darauf ausgebildet). Darum gibt es das 12er und das 16er System. Genau da hast du dich selbst eingefunden durch präzise Beobachtung. :-)
Every color (even blue) has warm and cold tones. Checking your color type is best with an expert (with colored shawls at natural daylight). Via internet and through different white balance photos the result is very questionable. But of course, the main thing is intuition and enjoying colors. All of them are beautiful.
I think you are a soft Autumn. This means greyish muted softer colors than the darker autumn. You look great in Earthy colors. That is definitely Soft Autumn.....I am also. Hallo von Erftstadt
You are doing so well with your colors! Especially the rust, deep caramel and olive-they look great on you. You may like this book: David Zyla Color Your Style. It is amazing. It is surprising how enlightening his system is. I could quite accurately find my colors using this book and looking at paint chips from the store, and then David verified it for me later. I’m an autumn; it seems like you certainly are too. I’ve gotten rid of nearly all black, white, and pastels. My wardrobe is a brick red, muted rust, olives, and warm deep browns. (I hardly have any variety!). The more I limit my wardrobe, the better I like it! David Zyla has six different types of autumns, so while you don’t fit perfectly in a spring summer fall winter system, because you border between spring and autumn, you would find a home in one of his more detailed categories (he calls them archetypes.). So while I’m autumn, my colors lean neutral rather than very warm, and are also very, very saturated and dark. I think you’d be a lighter to medium autumn... maybe you’d be his High Autumn, Gamine Autumn, or even Tawny Spring or Sunset Summer. But personality and style is also a major factor taken into account, so I don’t think you’d be Tawny Spring, as you have the down-to-earth vibe of an autumn :) Oh... you might be Mellow Autumn. After all your analysis, you might enjoy this book! I’d be curious which archetype you pick for yourself!
I LOVE earth tone/natural colors so much but I can never find clothes that are in those colors so I just opt for black, grey, or just dark colors and I think that's why I DON'T LOVE my wardrobe 😭😭
Maybe you could buy white items and give natural dyeing a try? I have a video on the topic and there are also so many other people and channels out there showing you how to get amazing earth tones with no experience needed and just some plants ☺
Your graphic of warm and cool is a little misleading. You can have a warm blue or a cool blue. Same with all the other colors. Also, there are people that are "neutral" that don't fall to either side of those. You have naturally picked colors that look good on you. I think that is true for most people, until the fashion industry talks them out of what they innately know.
May I point out that context is also key? I am sure you, as a Northern European, do not feel particularly "soft" in terms of contrast. But if you compare to the Mediterranean type, for example, you may see that you are indeed quite soft. It's also interesting to notice how certain tones (as opposed to colours) are so much more popular in certain cultures than in other.
Yes, I guess that is true... I think determining your colors works no matter how you look but me saying "my contrast is somewhere in the middle" is only true for my context...
Hi! Vielleicht magst du mal beim Kanal "Das weiße Reh" vorbeischauen. Olga macht tolle Videos zu den Farbtypen inklusive der Sub-Typen (Mixtypen). Das hat mir wirklich geholfen, meine Farben zu finden. LG 😃
I really like your vibe - thank you for making these videos! I had a similar experience of seasonal colour analysis not working for me. Now I understand that it’s a very limited approach and doesn’t work for a lot of people. I discovered Merriam Amani a few years ago and her colour system, called ‘Artistic License’, is a total game-changer! I highly recommend her approach to anyone interested in discerning their best colours. Her system explained: ua-cam.com/video/q_xcvInZifI/v-deo.htmlsi=qp_tnoVlOCo9Fic5 Her view on seasonal colour analysis: ua-cam.com/video/xuNxV5i4pq4/v-deo.htmlsi=3t_d8ToK3Uwm1a9P
The colour theory is not true , because it only takes the physical appearance, but not the colour of the aura and soul colours. That's why better go by feeling" and attraction to colour...
This is why someone that doesn't truly understand color theory should not make a self assessment 😅 I obviously cannot tell you your season by looking to you through a video, but already when you said to make the vein test, and that you know you're warm because you have golden hair, and that you have medium contrast... Those things I can state that are all wrong! The vein test is useless, it only confuses people, you can be a cold season and have golden/bronze natural color in your hair and your contrast is actually low! I am a soft summer and my hair turns bronze/orange"ish" in summer, my skin is olive toned, my veins are green (majority)... 😂 Ultimately everyone should wear whatever they enjoy the most, but please don't try to guess... You're wrong 90% of the time because we have a terrible biased perception of ourselves.

I liked them a lot for inspiration, especially if you sort of already know your vibe/style. Also, it’s kind of interesting to see why i like the things i like for my body and skin tone, haha. You should check it out!
Danke für deinen Einblick! Gut erkannt: Das 4er System ist ungenügend (bin selbst darauf ausgebildet). Darum gibt es das 12er und das 16er System. Genau da hast du dich selbst eingefunden durch präzise Beobachtung. :-)
Übrigens augenfällig warmtonig für mich.

Schönes Video. Danke
I’ve always thought you were a “soft autumn”; your colors are muted and that’s why I think it’s hard to pinpoint! 🍁
❤😍🍃
My husband said my English is not good, it's German-English. I married him last Monday.... It seems to be a mistake. ;-)
ps I think you may be confusing structure and texture?
Yes I think you are right! Texture would have been the better word ☺
Hi! Vielleicht magst du mal beim Kanal "Das weiße Reh" vorbeischauen.

Ultimately everyone should wear whatever they enjoy the most, but please don't try to guess... You're wrong 90% of the time because we have a terrible biased perception of ourselves.
Knitted cardigans are ugh Lia.
I am 68 and would not wear if
I was dead. Honestly, no way.
Tip # 18 for saving your money, to really save, get rid of cell phones, internet service, cable, you can't win with these big companies because sooner than later once they have you, they will raise your rates on a continuing basis.
