    Hi, very few videos on the senator’s with the big drag cap like this one.
    Question, I just rebuilt mine, everything works but the brake needs to be cranked down really hard just to get the spool to even start to slow down but still spins pretty freely. Someone told me that is the design of this reel, true?
    Just incase I ordered another one for mystic parts. I’ve fished with jig masters and peer 67 but never a senator.

      It's not entirely unheard of to have to apply a little tension to get the spool to turn but you shouldn't have to crack it down hard to get it to turn. I would inspect the drag washers and possibly replace them with a new kit to start. Also I would download the schematic if you haven't already and double check to make sure all the drag components and washers are installed correctly. The Senators are trolling reels and bottom fishing reels and made with heavier duty components compared to the jig masters and long beaches. Hope that helps and good luck!

    @ 4:30, you used a wrench to take off the handle, it looks like a special tool. What can you use if you don't have one?

      It's a heavy duty Penn nut wrench made by Alan Tani. $18 on Mysticparts.com. It's worth the money if you work on a lot of Penn's. Thanks for watching!

      @@backonthebenchreels thanks for the feedback. What can you use if you don't have one. I only have two reels that need tune up.

      @@jimmayors2315 That's a good question. When the reels are purchased new they would come with a special wrench tool made from thinner metal than this heavy duty one sold by Mysticparts. It has the same two different nut sizes on it as well as a open end wrench for the eccentric nut and a slotted screw driver. The handle nut on most conventional Penn reels is proprietary to their designs. There is a slight possibility that a metric spline socket may fit over the nut but I do not know. When all else fails you can remove the set screw and place a towel over the nut and use a pair of needle nose to turn it. Good luck!

    How do you remove the internal bearing on the non-crank side?

    • @backonthebenchreels
      @backonthebenchreels  Рік тому

      The bearing just unscrews out. If it is bad, noisy or rusted then it should be replaced. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

      @@backonthebenchreels I'm trying to get inside that screw cap where the bearing sits in but I can't reach it. There's something that's blocking like some sort of washer. How do you reach inside to remove the bearing from the cap?

      @@psy101514 I have not been successful taking that apart. I believe you have to just order the whole part. MysticParts.com should have it. Hope that helps and good luck!

      I just ordered one from mystic parts, $15 only took a few days from the East coast to the west coast!

    No carbon fiber washers?

    • @backonthebenchreels
      @backonthebenchreels  3 роки тому

      Yes, that is correct. If I was using this reel I might consider changing them out to a carbon fiber kit but at this point the reel is strictly a collection piece. But there is nothing wrong with using the old style brake washers if they are in good condition.

      I'm pretty backed up with projects at this time but I would recommend contacting Dennis with 2nd Chance Tackle. He is the best. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
