- In this video I show you how the headliner board is removed from a 2002 Saturn SL2. This is part of the process to either replace the fabric on the board or to work on the sunroof.
I unfortunately did not record the replacement of the fabric because I butchered the install but there are many videos out there that will show you how. The Sunroof is a project come spring.

Yeah, the plastic that is exposed to all that heat, and direct sunlight, tends to become brittle, and breaks really easy. Thanks for the vid!
Oh yea, since l relocated to hot AZ, my paint job has really changed, looks like popped blisters....it "was" a lovely paint job called "cranberry"....now l dont know how to describe the color LoL

good video. the one thing i was looking for that wasn't in here was the side pillar removal where the seat belts hang.
Thank you for a great film. After I removed the old foam there is some thin layer pills off at some patches. Should I pill it off or it is a thin layer of paper and will be soaked w/glue when I apply a new headliner fabric? Can I attach the wires on the roof instead of attaching it to the headliner? Thank you again.

Is this a full headliner, fiber board and all? if it is just the fabric, check out a local fabric shop, they usually have the headliner fabric with foam backing on hand anywhere between $10-20 a yard. just buy some 3M spray adhesive, scrape off the old headliner material, cut and paste. pretty simple, but takes a bit of time.
Do you mean the entire headliner piece, or the foamy material ??
There's no need to remove the sunroof glass in order to remove the sunshade. The sunshade is held by springs on each side. Go to SaturnFans.com for help. Lots of experienced and helpful Saturn lovers there.

+cristian paredes If I get to fixing the sunroof mechanism I'll show it, but its very simple. There are a total of 6 star bit screws on the inside. pull back the cover to access them. once the screws are out, the glass is pushed out through the top. The cover tabs are accessible after the glass is removed. Kind of explain it towards the end of this video. wanted to show it here but time was not on my side. Hope this helps.
Nice I have the Same color just 2000 and base model sl2. When I bought it on Craigslist the headliner was all torn up from what looks like knife marks
Great information. I am going on my third set of sun visors, they seem to wear out very fast. My second set is already shredded and now it looks like I need to buy a third set. My headliner is also in bad shape. 96 Saturn SL2 red like yours. (no sunroof)
My visors bent & the material ripped, l covered each one with a solid black colored tube sock!! ...pulled it tight, & it looks good to me.....but lm not very picky about cars LoL

What do you use to glue it to the headliner?
I used Permatex 27828 Body Shop Heavy Duty Headliner Adhesive, High-Strength Spray Adhesive, Repair Detached Or Loose Interior Parts, Dries Clear, Aerosol Can, 16.75 Oz from Amazon. But be careful, it is very-very tacky. I didn't wait what is said in instructions, bcs then impossible to work w/it, just sprayed (on fabric) and attached. I used 1 and 1/4 can (I put too much first).

So glad I'm not the only one with a sunroof! Also what is the condition of the armrest on the driver door? Mine is crying
Plastic under the fabric on the door handle was cracked, but still held. Only split apart when I used it as a leverage spot to get out.
@@jungleking007Channel mine is cracked and to the point where it looks like its gonna rip thru the liner. Gonna need to glue new fiber inside. Quick. So I had a follow up question on ur video. So you got the sunroof cover out, great. I saw how to get the glass out, great. So can the sunroof cover be taken out through the top? Or does it need to come out after the main headliner? My headliner is good, but my sunroof one is starting to look gross.
I dont have any bolts on the side plastic bar like you, can they just pop out with a flathead screwdriver somehow?

They should. some are held in by metal clips only. try one and be gentle. Good Luck!

itskendallduhh Go to your local fabric store. They will usually have headliner material. TO remove the old, by now the fabric is probably barely hanging on but the foam is still there. is a wire brush and scrape it off, vacuum up the fragments and you are ready to put the new fabric on.

I hate when people are lazy and have the headliner hanging down and never do anything about it, thats one of my pet peeves along with people who take all the wheel covers off there old car and make the thing look even worse than ever.
I'm OK with those people, it's the people who can't differentiate between there, they're and their who drive me nuts.
