One feature that I really REALLY love in storygraph is how we can select from or add different editions and formatsof the books, so for instance you could be reading i am reading a book as an audiobook, one as a paperback and another in my kindle, so I can add each version of the book differently. Also, different editions can be added so the covers of the books I read and the covers in my storygraph shelf actually match and this just makes my nit-picky heart feel very happy and satisfied.
Yes! It makes my tracking of books much more accurate to select the specific version
Goodreads also has this on the website, but not on their lame app.
As an avid storygrpah user, I'm always telling people to switch over!!! Love this!
Yay me too!
Thanks for sharing this. What I am running into is find thing the books I already own on the app. I want to create a "Want to Read" Shelf but I am not finding the books I own....I have Fable, ..I am going to delete because they have NOT one of my books....can you speak to this? Thank you.
Very good points! Only thing goodreads has that's better is more people are on there pretty much
Agreed and bc of that Goodreads continues to be a helpful platform for seeing the average rating and number of ratings for books
I like looking at the graphs
Yes me too!
I’m switching over from Goodreads!! Can’t wait to use it this year!!
One feature that you can't do on Goodreads, but you can do it on Storygraph, that is tracking your progress in an Audiobook by hours and minutes listened to.
I am on Storygraph and appreciate all the qualities you mention in this helpful video.
Thank you and happy reading!
I love the storygraph. I agree with all the points you made and also like that's its independently owned. I pay for premium because I want to keep it independent!
Ooh good to know about the premium feature!
I'm actually thinking about switching to premium just for that. None of the features appeal to me but the free version is so perfect, I'd hate to see storygraph fail
You could point out too that Goodreads just Feeds Jeff Bezo's data.
Totally agree with you I just tried it and it’s brilliant 📕
Organizing goodreads shelves < anything else in the WORLD.
Agreed!
Can you add in other reading challenges like the Popsugar, read harder from Book Riot, or even ones created by UA-camrs?
The only issue I have with Storygraph is it can't find all the books I read, since I read quite a few indie authors. It doesn't always work when I try to import them, either. So I still use both Goodreads and Storygraph because of that.
That makes sense and I have noticed too that Storygraph doesn't always have update titles, book covers, etc.
Have you tried to add them manually?
@@bess32 I have tried adding manually, and sometimes it's worked. But a couple times it said it would message me in the app when they were successfully added, and then I never get the messages. Then when I try to search the books on Storygraph again, they still aren't there. That's just been an issue with books by independent authors.
@@Silversparkles Oh. That's strange. I'd send them a message if that's the case. They're very good at responding to people, and it may be an issue they're not aware of.
@@bess32 Okay that's a good idea! I'll contact them next time that happens. Thank you.
Am switching to storygraph this year too am just tired of all the filler on good reads. Also, I really wish goodreads could make some books on your wish list and your yearly read list private. I don't want my family to see any blue monster spicy books ;) for ST it's just so clean looking and easier to find stuff plus I love looking at the moods for finding books, I've found books I would never have read before.
Yes the clean look of Storygraph makes it much more pleasant! The privacy settings for book lists would be a nice feature for Goodreads
I know I am late, but I would like to point out that marking books, genres and tags private is on the roadmap! Not sure when it is going to be deployed though, because there is only one developer on the team (the owner herself) but it is coming.
Lol, was going to update my storygraph as I watched this and I try to sign in and get an "Offline for Maintenance" message 😭
Same!!!! both Wed and Thurs.
I noticed that too! I kept refreshing and being disappointed
I'm trying to learn how to use Storygraph after using Goodreads for many years. How can you set up a bookshelf to show all the books I've read so far in 2024?
If you go to reading challenges and make a 2024 reading goal, then your 2024 reads will automatically be grouped together on your profile
@@twentyonereaders Thank you so much!!
Alternatively you can also go to profile > read recently > view all and then filter by the year on the dropdown above the search bar.
I'm absolutely dedicated to switching to storygraph this year, plus an excel book tracker. Goodreads sucks 😭
Yay I hope you enjoy it! And I have a separate book tracker spreadsheet for me too ha
Thanks for this. Can we create varied shelves on SG as we do on GR?
I don't think that's a feature on Storygraph yet
The only reason I haven't fully switched to Storygraph yet is because all my friends are on Goodreads still!
That makes sense!
I agree it's so much better. Goodreads is a toxic mess that protects angry aggressive trolls if they are connected to the moderators.
My bad if I missed it in your video, but wanna point out story graph is also black woman-owned!!
They lost me when I realized it won’t auto update from my kindle like goodreads🤷♀️
I didn't realize Goodreads had that feature!
Unfortunately that's because Kindle and Goodreads are owned by Amazon and it's unlikely Amazon would allow other companies to sync with them in that way.
This is a paid review, don't be fooled!
i'm trying some reading apps to see which one could fit me better so this video was really helpful! 𖹭
