Speaking of "Silver Linings Playbook", I didn't realize it was a romcom until like, the climax. It's a bit of a Trojan Horse romcom. And a good example, along with movies like "Hit Man", that RomCom doesn't mean one thing, it's an umbrella genre that can incorporate various different tones, types of storylines, and aspects of other genres. As long as there's a central romance arc and there's an overtone of comedy, it's a romcom--everything else is up for grabs.
You just interviewed one of the best American filmmakers of the last 35 years, but the headline is about Top Gun instead of Hit Man. Fucking Variety.
