I really look forward to your episodes, Stephanie! You shared many gorgeous finished objects this time! It’s so interesting to read about other people’s routines for feeling grounded and yet there are so many similarities as well. The routine that grounds me is spending time first thing in the morning reading the Bible (also in silence before the kids gets up). “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105
With a ten months old who is clingy clingy clingy, I feel most grounded when I make breakfast for myself and the baby as soon as we get up. If I scimp on breakfast I feel a lot less centered going into the day. Plus it's a nice routine that is going to be a part of life for many years to come
I'm an early morning person. I need that 2hrs on my own with my 2 cups of coffee and my handwork to ease into my day...I love it. When you were showing your crochet I had a flashback to 55yrs ago...my mom was a knitter, and once in a while crochet. Something she crocheted were granny square vests for us. They consisted of a multi-coloured granny square that would cover the front of the torso, and one for the back of the torso...then a narrow rectangular band to connect the 2 at the sides of the body, and 2 bands of crochet for shoulder straps. We loved them😊. Thanks for all of your inspiration 😊
The colours you used for the Midwinter socks are just gorgoeus Stephanie. Re grounding, I like to go into the garden and get my hands in the soil, do a bit of weeding, or sowing, or planting. While I'm out there I can hear & see the birds too. It connects me back to the earth and nature
I'm the same. I need that quiet time to myself in the morning before my kids and husband get up and the busyness begins! I knit, drink coffee and water and catch up on podcasts. Usually with a cat on my lap for awhile. I love your bunny mug! 🤍🐇
That black sesame mochi cake looks so good! I feel like I would eat the entire thing and have zero regrets. I love how soothing this podcast is. I feel grounded by hot beverages, handwork, and quiet time. I'm looking forward to sitting in my backyard this summer and just looking up at the trees.
Thanks for sharing the knits and your thoughts on so many things. The striped hat and the sweater are very nice. Knitting is my perfect way of settling my thoughts.
I also have a jar of yarn scraps. It's perfect for stuffing toys that I knit and I love that very little of my yarn gets wasted. I also think it looks pretty cool sitting on my shelf.
it's always a pleasure t sit and knit with you. :) and a great reminder to get a gift project or two going, I'm always so last minute with my gift knits!
Thank you so much Mesa for spending some time with me in this creative space! If I can find ways to enjoyably create with less stress, I will find ways to enjoyably create with less stress lol❤️❤️❤️
Hi, Stephanie, your hope is reached and achieved; inspiration is always to be found here on your channel! Regarding grounding, a good walk does wonders for me. There is something about moving my legs and taking those strides! And natural surroundings, whether it be in the woods or by the ocean, with trees or waves breaking, sand or mossy earth, a big open sky or a lacy-leaved sky, clouds or clear, birds heard, etc, etc, my soul needs this. Xoxo
That baby sweater is absolutely precious, Stephanie 💗 And yay for the grass starting to reappear! As for grounding, I have found that I really need about 30 minutes between when the kids’ bus picks them up in the morning and when I sign into work to sit and knit with my cup of tea. Most mornings it is in silence. Some mornings I will pop in to watch an IG live that a fellow maker does during the week. It doesn’t matter that the breakfast dishes are still in the sink or that there might be pajamas strewn about from the hurricane that happens when getting 2 first graders out the door in the morning. All of that can wait for breaks in the day to get picked up. If I don’t have that uninterrupted quiet time in the morning before signing into work I find the rest of the day is just as chaotic as the morning.
The first sweater looks so good on you, I'm happy that you finished it! And it's crazy to hear you still have snow on the ground! We have grass and flowers since February here in Eastern Europe 🙂
Hello Stephanie. Thank you for that lovely episode. You are a part of my daily grounding since a few weeks.😁 Every morning, after my husband and our four kids leave the house, I grap my needles, one or two mugs of coffee and my smartphone to knit with you ore one of my other favorite Knitters. I know the heardwarmig (Is that an Englisch word? I translate 1:1 from German.😅) feelings when your daughter said, that the loop ist Like a hug. My oldest (10y.) said over his Loop, it is "a peace of mum to carry with me". ❤
Thank you so much for joining me in this creative space and for including me in your grounding routine. YES!! I understand what you're saying 100%. So so sweet❤️❤️❤️
I really enjoyed your video and everything is lovely. I especially love the little baby cardigan…just darling with those little buttons! I love to knit, but I think music is my true outlet…if I am feeling out of sorts, I will go and play the piano for a while and it calms me. Also, my husband and I love to work on jigsaw puzzles together. Thanks for the inspiration!😊
I'm now knitting the Soirée Scarf (larger size), a recent free pattern from Purl Soho. I modified the pattern by: choosing Linen Quill instead of the featured bouclé mulberry silk yarn "Furl"; changing from all stockinette to all garter stitching in order to avoid the rolling edges characteristic of an all-stockinette fabric; and changing colors at the midway point where the Decrease section begins. I'm using LQ colors Juniper Green and Fresh Pickle, one hank per color. With my modifications, the Soirée Scarf process, product, and vibe all remind me of knitting the H+HTW, but on a smaller scale and with the end always within reach. If I like the final result, I can see diverting more of my Linen Quill H+HTW stash over to the Soirée Scarf project. You can make the scarf larger by simply knitting more four-row pattern repeats before changing from the Increase section to the Decrease section.
That's going to be so good! Your mods remind me of the Sophie Scarf/Wrap by PetiteKnit (paid-for pattern), the Spring Thing by Espace Tricot (free pattern), and the Easy Does It DK by Aimee Pelletier (free pattern, Darn Knit Anyway). They're all a little different but similarly knit from one end to the other with mirroring increases/decreases and garter with an i-cord edging (the Espace Tricot one has the i-cord done at the end instead of as you go).
For me, grounding myself is all about having some time to myself, in silence. I especially like "making" things, like cooking, knitting, pottery, sewing, gardening, working out, doing housework with an audiobook/podcast... I really like how you called it "resetting yourself."
🎉Woop! So many fun finishes! I can't wait to copy your poppy socks. I have a mother/daughter set in mind for gifting with that for the mom and a textured pair for the daughter with that month's yarns. 🥳 And now I'm also percolating a shrug for my kiddo. 😊 (I was going to make for who this year? I just *love* getting excited about gifts!!) I find resetting my kitchen very grounding. Also, knitting or having a beverage on the deck in the sun helps me bring up lots of gratitude and good vibes - especially if it's a frazzled or upset feeling that I need to recover from. A walk with the intention to notice things (details in the plants, the light, the sounds, the feelings in my body) does this, too. ❤
It is such a treat to see all the gorgeous colours Stephanie!! I look forward to your book talk/thoughts as well. My grounding has to be a day where I have committed to doing nothing. Of course this is not possible always and a couple of weeks will go by with things on my to do list which take up a whole morning or more. Sadly, even socialising accounts for "things to do". I have learned to say no, take the day for myself to read, or knit, or watch videos 😊.
Beginning vlog video of your surrounding nature, is so calming to me❤. No words/talking, just music...so lovely. Funny I thought that crocheted cowl for your girl was a baby/toddler poncho😂😂😂. So cute Stephanie! I'm a sucker for those baby, little folk knits. That pink one ❤❤ Food for thought... on grounding? I need quiet, instrumental music...time alone, knitting, or simply staring out my window at nature. Also a session in silent meditation n yoga, alone, is a nice fix for me too. It was very hard to find that when I was raising kiddos. I, too, got up way early to have that time. Retirement now has that blessing! I have all the time now😊 But if only HE would stop talking😂😂 Thanks for another great podcast❤❤ That was relaxing while I knit on my Felix😊
Thank you so much Rosemary!! It would be SUPER cute as a baby/toddler poncho!! YES to all the ways you listed for grounding. hahahahah shhhhhhh. Take care and talk soon❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing all your things, I especially like the pullover you are wearing/knit. When I was in my early twenties I worked at a daycare in Vegas and many of my co-workers were Korean Americans. Being a silly 20-year-old I would often forget to make lunch and they would share their lunch with me which was most everyday a brick of tofu, water drained off, cut into cubes with soy sauce poured on top. A bunch of vegetables in dishes sliced up with white vinegar. And this begins my love of tofu. And it's still one of my favorite summer lunches.
Your socks came out so beautiful! I have high hopes for mine!! Also that striped sweater. Omg! Stripes are so easy but they somehow end up being talked about like they’re more complicated than lace and I get nervous making them in the round. Great tip! Also great read suggestion! I just finished daughter of the moon goddess and just started heart of the warrior sun and loving it so far! Can’t wait till your next video!
The crinkling - lots of people have something called 'misophonia', especially if they're also Highly Sensitive (aka sensory processing sensitivity/environmental sensitivity ). I have this and the sound is sort of like the equivalent audible discomfort to e.g. nails down the chalkboard. Another massive triggering noise is the sound of people swallowing/eating/licking foods, drink etc. Which is why lots of podcasters are also careful about sipping coffee on film as well.
Plant fibers are mostly heavier than animal fibers, so you end up with fewer yards per gram for the same thickness. I'd be curious to know if people who don't work with animal fibers look at wool put-ups and wonder how you can possibly cram 250 yards into 100 grams and call it DK! Different weights is also one of the reasons fluffy mohair & suri yarns tend to be sold in smaller put-ups, because 100 grams of yarn that light is both a ton of yardage and very unwieldy to wind.
Thanks for chiming in! Yes, I figured it out for mohair and suri laceweight yarns and those make sense to me to be in 25g and 50g when you compare that yardage for what it is as a laceweight. The plant-fiber ones just throw me off!
I have been drinking teeccino for several years. Coffee even decaf causes a disruption of my heart rhythm. I like dandelion dark roast and dandelion caramel mocha. I also sometimes put mushroom powder in my brew. It seems to give it more depth. For anchoring, I do a morning ritual of lighting a candle and sending good thoughts to my family, friends and to all living things. I do a gratitude walk. I listen to music and audiobooks. Tofu... To me tofu has no flavor. It is excellent in taking on the flavor of the seasoning and sauces you use with it. Also, the texture is important.
In the morning after breakfast I'll sit on the couch to drink my hot coffee or matcha/green tea for a few minutes. I work from home, and the routine of making my after lunch tea is also very comforting. So many colorful FO's this episode, very exited for Spring.
OMG! I can relate so badly with "I'm a morning person in silence"!!!!! I really need silence for the first moments on my mornings. I can read for a bit, write morning pages, sun bath outside with knitting or books, looking the plants... I can also enjoy a lot my cooking time if I'm doing it alone.
Ohh my! that drying rack of socks it is something to aspire ☺ I think my grounding happens in the evening, We have dinner together sometimes late because our highschooler has late activities and at the end of the dinner my husband and I pick up the table while I fill the dishwasher and fill up 2 cups of tea for us. We sat down, the kids are doing homework or cleaning the kitchen and we breath out the day and plot for tomorrows to do's
Honestly I never thought of the feeling of contentment I get while knitting as being grounded, but it makes sense. oh the joy that comes from sitting, and pulling out a project bag with all the things needed, and poisoning the needles and yarn in your hands, the wrapping of the yarn, taking the stitch off the needle…and seeing the item come to life, it’s kind of magical. And at the same time for me, helps me not think about the chronic pain I’ve experienced for years. Without knitting I don’t know me. Thanks for a wonderful thought this time. Cheers!
Hi Theresa! I'm assuming it's "positioning" the needles and not "poisoning the needles" but I've been reading some fairy tale stories and poisoning the knitting needles actually in the book so I just read over it as if it was "normal" lol. I hear you on strings and sticks making magic! Take care ❤️
I love the design of the Kinsan sweater and your choices of colorways and stripe width. I think this very classic design works best when the striping is kept simple, without getting too busy with varying widths and colors. I love the neckline and ribbed areas of the sweater.
Hi Stephanie! Thank you for another interesting episode! ❤️ I have two dogs and I go for a walk with them every morning on weekdays (on weekends I usually wait for my daughter to get up and so we can go together after breakfast). I never thought about it as “grounding myself” but that’s exactly what it is for me - go for a walk, clear my head, enjoy the sunshine, get positive vibes from my happy puppies because they love going for long walks, and so do I 😊🐶🐶 And that usually sets my whole day up.
Hi Jen!! Going for a walk and soaking in the sunshine is so so necessary - I look forward to more of those as we approach Spring. Take care and talk soon❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for more inspiration. I love your esthetic. Your colors are gorgeous. Have you studied art? Your food descriptions are also inspiring - I don’t really like to cook but I get the desire to do so every time I watch your podcast. I don’t mind the crinkles. 🙂
Thank you so much Teresa! I've always been into art since I was a baby (my mom said I was always drawing/painting/etc). In undergrad I majored in biology and minored in painting. Take care ❤️
❤ for me too and I think many crafters the as you said “rhythm” of knitting or crocheting is what resets and grounds me on a daily basis. I find myself when I’m out and about often longing to get home and settle down with a cup of something and just get into the rhythm again. I pretty sure it has to do with alpha and beta waves in the brain. Also you might want to check out dande blend it’s a 100% toated dandelion root drink that I think is delicious, no caffeine and lots of health benefits. Cheers!
You give me ideas!! This time… tofu. There’s so much you can do w tofu (kinda sorta like chicken). I’ll reference recipes! It’s so hard to cook for 1… ya know !! In the morning, I think-okay, xyz meat & some sort of vegetable… dinner time, ahhh, “don’t wanna”. Annnd…the maid quit, the chef quit (hahaha)…now I have to do all the things. Sigh. Dishes to do ?… Oh! I’ve got a hat to finish. or Laundry? Hmm just one sleeve to go !!! Thanks for sharing your FOs! And for recipe ideas!
AHH!! I'm so sorry. I don't usually have any crinkling on my episodes and if I do in the future I will be mindful and either mute the sound at that part or just cut that part of the video out when possible. Someone else commented that for some, the crinkling sound is the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard and I definitely don't want anyone having to experience that here!
I love to see your progress on your half and half triangle wrap. I always have a half-and-half on my noodles. I am a little disappointed. You did not share your progress this episode.
I LOVE crinkling!

For me, I ground myself by getting up early and exercising before anyone else gets up. If I go too many days without it I feel like I’m in a rut.

Yes!! So good ☕️. Take care Brenna!
Thank you! I hear you - intentional time at the piano bench can be what I need at times. Take care!

I love the design of the Kinsan sweater and your choices of colorways and stripe width. I think this very classic design works best when the striping is kept simple, without getting too busy with varying widths and colors. I love the neckline and ribbed areas of the sweater.
Thank you!
That baby cardigan is just the sweetest! Your knitted garments are always so well done!!
Thank you so much Deb!
Hi Stephanie! Thank you for another interesting episode! ❤️
I have two dogs and I go for a walk with them every morning on weekdays (on weekends I usually wait for my daughter to get up and so we can go together after breakfast).
🤗♥️🤗💕💕💕🌹🌹🌹🌹Thank you so muchhhhhh
Thank you so much Evelyn!
Love the baby sweater! Where do you get your buttons?
Thank you! I just collect buttons wherever. These floral ones came with some yarn I bought years ago as extra goodies.
Cheers!
Thank you for the recommendation!
Oh that cowl is so cute, thanks for sharing you have inspired me to make some as well ❤
Thank you so much and you’re very welcome!
Thank you so much and you're very welcome!
I use headphones/earbuds for 95% of my UA-cam watching, and plastic crinkling is *so* loud! I don't know why that noise just takes over everything lol
Next time!
