- “Pain Defiance:” When the level of pain inflicted is so extreme that the recipient experiences an “Amygdala Highjack” and is biologically ignited to survive at all costs.
It’s because of this that sometimes the arm that is still intact is more valuable as a negotiating tool than the arm that is broken.

This is why every police officer should learn BJJ. Their training seems based on the notion that cracking a person repeatedly with a baton is the best path to compliance. I’ve a good friend who’s a cop (and BJJ black belt) who was taught this in training. He was kinda horrified. Good if it works, I guess, but sometimes you’re just poking the bear. People aren’t rational once you push them past a certain pain threshold. They’ll do anything to make you stop. Better to control them and deescalate.
A taser would have a similar effect and is safer for the cop
@smk8678 but if you miss with the taser and/or it doesn't have the intended effect, jiu-jitsu is a good insurance policy.

it is an obvious counter balance and survival mechanism when faced w a very painful or traumatic event. You can either fight, flight or freeze.
when there is a very big painful event you can 'comply', flee from it, totally freeze in place or especially when all other options are non-existent you will fight for your life (or likely die/suffer immeasurable harm).
Like my instructor always says, sleeping people don't fight back.
Tell that to my ex. One night while in bed, she sent a solid straight punch to my face. My luck was my arm was on the way and I blocked it otherwise she could've broken my nose. That *itch!
be very very careful about putting someone to sleep... they choke on their tongue and you go to jail

@GracieBreakdown not sure if there is anything that can be done at this point, but I'm Brazilian and the way that sentence is translated makes no sense. I wonder if the whole course is like that. I'm bilingual, but I'm sure many who'll buy the course are not. Worth taking a look at it.
They misspelled sériE. But the whole sentence doesn't make sense in Spanish or French either. It should be something like: A (melhor) série instrutiva (número um) de todos os tempos para iniciantes em Jiujitsu.

Yeah i get pain defiance. My ex would force me to be his grappling dummy in prep for fights. And because it was the only time I was allowed to fight back, or ve defiant, I got REAL good at taking pain because I'd refuse to tap. And when I mean not allowed to say no, that meant in everything. His verbal abuse, threats and control the rest of the time gave me a lot of pent up defiance 😂
Yes, if you wrench it they won't comply.... they will fight.
