This Troybilt XP weedeater has some serious OCD issues as it seems every component on the shaft is misaligned.

Excellent video. So happy to find this information. The only issue I had was the red shaft coupling handle that did not tighten properly. So, in use, every time the spinning string hit any resistance, the whole lower shaft would spin instead of cutting weeds. The whole trimmer almost took flight across the yard any number of times. After breaking the red handle off, the inner bolt snapped when I tried to tighten it down. Used 1/4-20 replacement bolt about 2" - 2.5" long plus flat and lock washer(s). Worked like a charm. Thanks!
You're welcome and thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Thank you
My set screw was elongated
Didn't know there was another one on the other side
Thanks
Nick
Set screw hole that is :)
@@nickcrfd3475 understood. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Thanks so much for your video. This is exactly the same thing that happened to mine. I wish I had saw this video before I started taking apart stuff but luckily I didn’t do too much damage and thankfully I finally caught your video. Thanks again man!
hope you get it back together
Yes sir I actually did get it back together and it was working pretty well now the head on it is twisting for some reason
Thanks for all the information. This helped me out ALOT
no problem
Great video That showed me what’s I needed to do
Glad I could help
Did you have trouble getting that safety stop attached to your throttle in your throttle grip housing?
not really
That’s good I did and I just decided to leave it off, but do you think if my trimmer lines are too long that will cause it to twist?
how do i fix the inside of the top shaft housing? i tried to take off my accessory and it wouldn't come off. i tried to pull it off and the plastic inside the upper shaft came out. so how do i fix this
I've never had to repair that before. Is then inside of the plastic part still squared off or did it get rounded? You might have to replace the entire upper shaft
When you turned the head i saw you was about an inch short of going all tge way on did this affect the heads operation any
It was more like .5" and it still worked fine because there's more than enough of the shaft coupled to the head.
@@HomeGaragechannel thank you
Awesome vid. Great job explaining step by step. Good info here.
Thanks man. I really appreciate it.
Great fix! Looks like that trimmer has had a hard life...lol
Thanks Alan. Yes it is definitely a "used" piece of equipment.
awesome, great help!
Thank you for the comment I appreciate it
Good video, all those screws are tight but handle is still loose. Any other ideas why?
Thanks for commenting. If it's the handle by the engine make sure the set screw that goes thru the handle and the shaft is not going damaged or the hole its threads into on the shaft. All the other screws will not hold the handle from twisting. That's what the set screw is for. If it's the front handle I would suggest shinning between the handle and the shaft. I hope this helps.
My handle and shaft are getting so hot I can’t hold it. What is the problem?
really? I going to guess the drive shaft needs to be lubricated.
ok going to check my set screw! thanks :)
Thanks for watching and good luck.
Maybe you can help me my troy bilt TB80 EC started making a horrid noise ok it almost sounds like bearings went bad and make a screetch when you rev the engine now the engine is working but it isn't turning the trimmer head with any power do you think it can be the gearbox or do you think it's something different say the clutch?
Thank you photondebuger45 for the comment. Try disconnecting the trimmer attachment on the shaft. Once the trimmer part is off try spinning just the trimmer head. If it spins freely then the clutch is probably the problem.
@@HomeGaragechannel ooh well one thing thank you for responding that's well that makes me happy and yeah I did that shortly after I read the reply. Now when I rotated the trimmer head something interesting happened I was looking at the driveshaft of the lower boom yes the trimmer head was rotating freely but when looking at the other end I saw that the driveshaft was rotating intermittently when spinning and sometimes not at all so I took the trimmer head off and spun that too and I saw the inside of it and the square drive in the head stopped spinning. And yes I went further I split the gear box in half and all the teeth were all stripped off, it had this convex I think that's the right word on both gears and some had massive chips in the teeth and yes all the metal bits were in the grease. It was nasty lol so in short it was the gear box (well that I know of) I got a new one now my other question would be would you recommend splitting the housing to add more grease and if so and that's IF you do, in what intervals should I do it?
Good job!
Thanks for the comment
