  • Hello guys! Today I'd like to show you my new custom 2 string Punk bass made by Kevien Siebold - Krappy Guitars. It's more a sound test, presentation than a review.
35 inch scale, 24 frets, neck through. One pickup, one volume control. And that's actually everything I can tell you about it. SPECS Below. It's not a great instrument, not even good but it's a lot of fun. Just a gimmick made out from and old table, I suppose. I saw it in for the first time in the video of Davie504 so I decided to have my own one. Pigotello loves it. If you've got a bass synth like Future Impact by Panda Audio this bass can be really funky too!
You can find more about it on their site - krappyguitars.com
I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for your support!
    SPECS:
Body: probably an old table, unknown woods
    Neck-through-body construction
Neck profile: thick D in a way
    24 medium frets
    Scale: 35"
Tuners: the cheapest ones you can find on eBay
Bridge: unknown not fixed kind of bridge
    Pickup: unknown
    Finish: absolutely no finish
    Price: $105

What I think... I own one. Mine uses a Triple Omega Alembic body style. 2 strings. Fretted to the 12th fret. Fretless from the 12th fret up. Thanks Kevin for a really Krappy Bass that I love to death! I love their work.

Greetings from The Netherlands. I love the sound you get out of that thing. I like to make electric Cigar Box Guitars. A few days ago, I found some really good quality 4cm/1.6" thick pieces of hardwood kitchen countertop. Someone had thrown them out with the garbage 😱. I know, some people are nuts. This stuff is seriously expensive 💲💲💲!! These are substantial chunks of wood 😲. The first thing that crossed my mind was, *slide two string bass* , *Mark Sandman style* . So I've dragged these very expensive pieces of refuse home. There's enough for one bass body and two good sized butcher's blocks - fantastic eh 😃!
Seeing you play that, *Punk bass* from *Krappy Guitars* has motivated me even more to do this thing. I've a nice *Warman P Bass Stealth* pickup doing nothing and plenty maple for necks. Looking forward to putting this together. It should be a fun project 🤪.

@@adamgordon Thanks 😃. Yeah, I'll do that and I've subscribed to your channel. This'll be the first solid body instrument I'll have built. I build everything with Japanese hand tools, with the exception of a jigsaw, hand drill, and a bench press drill. I build this way deliberately. I find the finished instruments take on a character that's totally unique. I know, it's probably just me being daft 🤣. This project is going to have a whole new set of challenges for me - great stuff 😃!

Great video. So on a purely technical level, what’s the review? Does it keep tuning? How’s the intonation? Etc.

    • @adamgordon
      @adamgordon  3 роки тому +4

Hey Tom. It's rather a sound test. There's not much to review really. As for the tuning - it doesn't stay in tune too long. There's no truss rod, no fixed bridge. Sounds pretty decent as for a krappy guitar. Frets slightly stick out so I had to soften the edges up quite a but. Its neck is chunky and not really comfortable. I would consider it more as a gimmick than a real instrument. So don't complain about the general quality, even the maker says it's not supposed to be a well built thing. It's still a fun thing to play. Hope that helps a bit.
Thanks for checking out my video. I really appreciate your support! Stay safe!

Are you sure this is a 35 inch scale? The website states a 34 inch scale. I've only owned a couple basses that actually had a 35 inch scales. They were 5 and 6 string basses because that low B benefited from the longer scale length.

Great for learning on. Also good for challenging yourself. The man that invented rock and roll Bo Dudley ( yeah not Elvis or Buddy Holley) learned on an instrument made from a 2x4, a piece of wire, and a beer bottle. Look up the diddley bo. Hence his stage name.

I have one of these! I had Kevin put the pickup in the "neck" position instead. It's a whole lot of fun, sounds great, even plays pretty well. No truss rod, and a very "square" neck (not as uncomfortable as it sounds) with the strap button installed right on the back of the neck to avoid oil-derrick syndrome (also not as uncomfortable as it sounds). Cost is around 3 tanks of gasoline, plus shipping, and he'll do WHATEVER you want: 1 string, 2, 3, fretted, fretless, et cetera. There's a basic a la carte menu on the site, but you'll have to have direct contact with Kevin before he quotes you a price. Tuning for the 2-string is generally EA; I named mine "Money" because there's nothing but money notes on this bass! Very happy customer: www.krappyguitars.com
