Dear Guru ji, AUM is such a big thing. There are so many alternative explanations in our shastras for what AUM is. AUM is considered as Involution, while OM is considered as Evolution. We humans are currently in Evolution phase, so OM is also appropriate. In fact, South Indian Siddhas say neither AUM nor OM, but they say Ong. Similarly, they say Shreeng, not Shreem, and so on. AUM is not just A-kara, U-kara, M-kara, but also Nada and Bindu. AUM is not only Sound, it is also Light. Hence, your explanation that by pronouncing A-U-M we are emphasising both Masculine and Feminine is correct, but there is nothing wrong with Om also. Thank you,

In fact, "South Indian Siddhas say neither AUM nor OM, but they say Ong " -- beautiful and important point . Panini is South Indian right ? It is often neglected that there is the CANDRABINDU in the Om hence it is anunasika when pronounced ( the vowel pronounced with mouth open and nose ) . So according to rules of pronunciation it is Ong ( for some may be Aung ?) not Om .

It is important to strive at the precise and accurate pronunciation as possible . The deity is the mantra right , including the script. The sound is the deity as well. This Mantra is part of sri vidya upasana and the initiation should be taken from guru. Without guru deeksha this mantram should not be chanted. And yes this mantram can heal physical diseases also. Amma no mantra will cause any harm. But without getting deeksha from a Guru if you chant the mantra there is no shakthi in that mantra. When Guru gives you the deeksha of any mantra, he energises the mantra before giving to you so that you get the power of that mantra.
Hence it is always said, you should take the mantra from a Guru.

Ganapathi mantra requires Guru deeksha, without deeksha from a proper Guru you are not supposed to recite the mantra. It can cause imbalances. Through Nyasam you will have a chance to remember the seer or Rishi from whom the mantra is descended to us. So in this aspect it is good to do Nyasam as a thanksgiving prayer to the Rishi and Deity pertaining to the Mantra. However this shouldn't be taken as a compulsion.

Amma you can do ganapathi tarpanam for material benefits but its a very wrong approach. Tarpanam means expressing your happiness and gratitude to ganapathi for giving us this life and all that we have today in our life.
Eventually he will bless you with all the material benefits you want but just for the sake of getting some benefits dont do any tarpana or pooja or homa.

Tarpanas are 3 types:
1. Pitru tarpana
2. Deva tarpana
3. Rishi tarpana
Each tarpana has got different procedures.
Pitru tarpanas we do for satisfying and showing gratitude to our ancestors
Deva tarpanas we do for satisfy the devata shakti's for giving us boons and protecting us
Rishi tarpanas we do for showing gratitude to all the rishis who has done so much of research and giving us knowledge how to live life in order to attain moksham.
Now coming to your question regarding the difference between abhishekam and tarpanas:
Before we start Abhishekam, we do prana pratista to an idol. Prana pratista means bringing your energy into the idol through your prana(Breathing). When we do that our energy comes and sits inside the idol. So by doing abhishekam we are purifying/cleansing our soul by the usage of different jalas like milk, curd, ghee, honey, water etc. Each abhisheka jalam has got different shakthi.
whereas tarpanam means expressing your happiness and gratitude to any particular devata shakthi to whom you are offering the tarpanas. Basically you are saying thank you for giving you this life and giving you whatever you want in life. By offering tarpanas, eventually all your problems will get solved including health related problems.

Guruji, i observed that while pronouncing the full mantra , you are saying "Om" , not "Aum". It is not being possible for me also to say "Aum" while chanting the full mantra. So the full mantra can be chanted with "Om" , right? Kindly clarify .
