I heard an interview of Mike Shinoda about Lost and they discarded the song for the Meteora LP because they thought it was too similar to Numb... man, it's hard to believe that Linkin Park's "not good enough songs" would easily be the number 1 hit of 99,99% of rock bands

I don't know how it's similar to numb but Mike is a musician, he probably knows better 😅. I'd say, for me it's similar to breaking the habit on emotional layer.

It actually feels super unique to me. Like Meteora style vocals, but the production makes me think of A Thousand Suns or Living Things. A more modern take on classic Nu Metal. Just shows how ahead of their time LP was I guess.

2:16 The way Chester delivers the lines "but im tired, i will always be afraid" especially the "but im tired" part breaks my heart. It literally sounds like he's crying his voice breaks a little. In an interview with Mike Shinoda, he reveals that they were debating between "Numb" and "Lost" and they chose to keep "Numb" instead. Reason why this happened is because he said the two songs sounded too similar to each other so keeping one would suffice for Meteora. I also feel the sense of nostalgia hearing a song that never made it on a popular album. It's crazy to think that in an alternate reality, "Lost" may have replaced "Numb" instead, meaning 2023 would have been the year that the world hears "Numb" for the very first time.

It’s both nostalgically refreshing and emotionally powerful at the same time that was worth the wait and “feels.” In my opinion, one of the things Chester should be remember is he was the Ian Gillian of his generation not in terms of sounds, but in terms of trajectory. With Deep Purple and Linkin Park, neither were original members, but both of them took it to another level and they were briefly vocalists of other bands that everybody knows as well with Black Sabbath and Stone Temple Pilots respectively. Ian done one album with Sabbath on Born Again (so underrated), and Chester done one EP with High Rise.

It may not be their best song recorded, but it's their hardest song to listen to. Because after all this time, it's great to hear Chester for the first time again... and yet we know it'll be the last time :(

That’s exactly how I react every time I hear his voice, signing. It just soothes my soul. It’s like no other. Never will be another Chester or Linkin Park. He is so sorely missed💔😩

Its crazy how we see the influence of Chester on today's music. The last BMTH album is a great exemple of that influence both instrumentally and vocally.

    His reaction is perfect.
The songs starts, and within 5 seconds you feel at home. It feels like every linkin park song makes you feel. Like everything is okay.. everything is or will be good.
But as soon as you hear Chesters voice.. it feels like all the air gets sucked out of you and reality kicks you in the face..

    3:44 I felt the same sensation ❤👏
4:40 about this, the sound engineer of "Grey Daze" (Chester's first band) noticed the same thing when he heard their cover of "Anything Anything" (ua-cam.com/video/lfhGaeDlGHk/v-deo.html), and heard the voices separately.
There are 2 new interviews with Mike, I recommend to see them.

I've been a fan since I was 12 (I'm 33 now) and to be honest I couldn't bring myself to listen to it, because I knew it would be a lot, so watching it with you in a sense made it easier. It's absolutely beautiful. His voice was unreal. Other than the sing/scream technique he also mastered to sound like he was crying in the most vulnerable parts of songs while still staying on pitch. I remember Don Gilmore, their producer on Meteora saying that he had "two or three voices inside his voice, and it's the strangest thing in the world". I met him twice (such a sweetheart and he even remembered me!) and even when he talked normally, there was something soft yet sharp and weirdly... loud about it. The most beautiful description of his singing (and talking) voice was from a fellow fan was he imagined this is what mer-people or sirens sound like above land. Ethereal and captivating.

Once again, Chester blows us away with his awesome vocals. I'm 55 so elder GenX, and it's hard for me to believe it's been 20 years since the release of Meteora. This song brought out emotions I haven't felt in a long time.
On a different subject, what are your thoughts on Apple releasing a Mac Mini with the M2 Pro chip? I want one. I'm currently using the base M1 Mac Mini. It's the HDMI 2.1 and the high powered headphone jack that seal the deal for me.
