I think the 30 dollars is worth it given; 1) the spectacular views 2) the ancient heritage 3) the complexity of the entire complex 4) the sheer amount it takes for the archaeology department to maintain it I guess its a win-win , tourists get to see and understand something so unique and so native to a particular country , something that is very complex and was obviously ahead of its time in many ways . And the locals get to preserve something that is very dear to them.
More than the views Sigiriya is architecture. How did the King get water on top (200 metres) to fill his swimming pool? You forgot to mention the frescoes.
Dont go to lions rock just for views , its a rock fortress ,from bottom to the top everything is a mystery , for an example that big pond on top of the rock was made by just scooping the stone , no one knows how they did it
This was Ravana's empire. Vishwakarma a civil engineer at that time planned and gifted Ravana around 5000years ago. Ravana captures seetha who is Rama's wife from India bcz of her beauty. One day Rama defeated Ravana in a war to get seetha. That time this empire came down. If u read Hindu ethics Ramayana, will get to know everything.
What I experienced on my first visit to Sigiriya is that it's simply breathtaking. I used to live in down south and visited on a school trip. It was not dry season when it was too hot, and definitely should visit early. The water fountains still work sprinkling water in those welcoming green lawns. There's lot of history and it is regarded as the 8th wonder in the world, as the technology they had thousands years ago still make modern engineers amaze and some water sprinklers are still functioning to this date. The fortress had many layers of protection with water, crocodiles and layers of walls. It's a complex building which one cannot rush through without a full day atleast. Great video guys!
My country 🇱🇰Sri Lanka🇱🇰 thank you guys for come here. Hope you enjoy our country. Few interesting things to see: *If you investigate carefully you can see something called Ravana rocks around sigiriya *Also you might notice some rock traps on the sigiriya as defense machanism * some markings on the up to the rock. Some books mentioned there was an elevator to go up down. Some believe those parallel markings are left of that machanisms. *There are lot of secrets around. Anyway hope you guys safe travel.
It is worth visiting. One of fascinating views in the world, also known as 8th wonder of the world. Most of the techniques and pathways have been hidden and not yet discovered properly :)
The allure and mystique of the Lion rock is evident only when you explore the intricate details of the ancient kingdom surrounding it. The place on top of the rock contains ancient hydro engineering with toilets and wastewater as well as drinking water delivery.
You guys are amazing 👍👍... there are so much to know than just a view of Sigiriya rock if anyone interesting climbing up. Water fountain. Gardens, frescos, moonstone stairs, ect. Also there are more reasons why sigiriya was important as kingdom. It was also strategic location for hide and combat. Fort its self a good shield from enemies. When they built they used lots of tactics.. list is goes on.

Its good to see that you guys did good research about the Sigiriya. recently one research group found a place like Sigiriya in the middle of the jungle that has wall arts of dinosaurs and top of the rock have pools too. I don't think king use steps to go around the rock especially with the beautiful woman that he has :-)). if we think only about a big swimming pool at the top of the mountain. we don't know how they scooped out tons of rock to make that swimming pool and connect it with the waterline.

Those carved steps in to the rock are actually not the steps that used to climb rock by foot. Those are threads used by wheels to roll up and down. There are some proofs about an ancient Elevater that King used to climb the rock.
Oh rad. We didn't know that. I find it hard to imagine the the king would climb up and down frequently. So some sort of ancient elevator makes sense. Would be really interesting to see
Pretty impressed with the history lesson.Shame not many climbers aware of the historical value. If you closely look down from top you will see gardens and ponds below are symmetrically made. There are even water fountains below powered by rain water collected on pond at the top.King K had 6000 topless virgins to serve him.Still have some paiting on the side wall.Gaddafi style in 450AD🤣
That's so crazy to think that people used to climb those stairs. It doesn't seem possible. I think i'd really struggle if that was the only way to the top
Thank you! It's definitely worth learning the history before you visit it. It gives everythign a bit more context and you can enjoy the fort for what it is. I think its worthy of a climb.
@@Mihiran_Edirimanna I'm sure the guy was asking a genuine question and not trying to be mean. to a foreigner, at first sight it is just a rock and is tiring to climb so there has to be smth of value that you gain.

As locals we know the value of it, foreigner they dont know the whole story, they just heard a basic story, just like we heard the story about taj mahal. Pretty much every youtuber forgets the frescoes. Maybe because it is prohibited to video it.

Shame on you Sri Lanka $30 robbery
Why do tourists have to pay 30 dollars? it's a theft!!!
example :
100 tourists per day x $ 30 = $ 3,000
$ 3,000 x 30 days = $ 90000 !!!!!!
Haha it's EASILY more like 1000 tourists per day. Easily.
Oh we Indians know the significance of Sigiriya. The answer lies in the ancient Hindu epic of Ramayana.
😂😂😅😓
Wrong
Sorry but Ramayana connection is merely a fraction of Sigiriya story in Sri Lankans' point of view.
I guess we'll never know for sure
