More of this, please. You make some really fine equipment, but it’s your playing that always knocks me out. Anything to understand how you do that thing is much appreciated.
Thanks, Simon. I enjoyed that. Love the theory talk. I've been playing since I was 15 and at 69 I'm just learning the actual theory of why notes go together or don't. It's a whole new language. Also, you have a real knack for explaining the technical bits! Your "That Pedal Show" episodes are some of my favorites. Please continue!
Ooo. love that. Adjusting the already familiar scale of the parent instead of focusing on the non-diatonic notes based on the scale of the chord you are on.... That was an awesome nugget! Cheers Mr.Jarrett!
So generous of you to take the time to share these tips. Your playing is so interesting and inspiring! It's good to understand a little of what you do. Thanks a million!
Simon: If you have a tone pot affecting the bridge pickup, you must have rewired the Strat. On every Strat I've ever played, the tone controls affect only the middle and neck pickups. So, how do the tone controls work after the rewiring; that is, which controls affect which pickups? Thanks for this video. I love your playing! 😎 UPDATE: Never mind. I just watched LTT3, where you answered that very question. Thanks again!
With so much STUFF out there these days it is very difficult to weed your way through to something that is useful and relevant. Having someone with your knowledge and experience, sharing it with the masses is a big step forward. Keep it up Simon we need more great content like this. By the way, love your products and playing. Cherry on top my friend.
BRILLIANT PLAYING SIMON we are all humbled by your incredible studio session playing and ideas and the lines just shoot from the hip and then the TONE TIPS are right on best I have heard and making the TONE KNOB useful and versatile thank you SIMON u r the wizard
You R amaizng man ! Your pedals and amps are just second to none . Thank you for this lesson series as a guitar player i look up to players like you ! Thanx Simon !
Simon, I'm very happy you found time to make these. Playing over changes is still a bit of a magic to me. The theory is great, but I struggle coming up with practice exercises. I try to noodle around to easy chord changes or tunes but i feel I may be practicing the wrong things and so not really improving much. Sounds that your pedals make is something that inspires me to continue practicing though.
Would you consider expanding on this discussion of caps in part 2? I’m very interested in this as I’ve found my strat tone control just goes to mud land. Fantastic info you presented here though. Main questions: 1) will smaller caps change pickup sound in wide open position or only when rolled off? 2) what are the potential downsides of smaller caps? I thought the midrange focus that was given sounded amazing but are there potential downsides too?
Hi Joe - I am using the Kingsley Juggler V3 into a Source Audio Ventris reverb and a Pigtronix Echolution...into two power amps. For more info on all the gear, see the description under this video: ua-cam.com/video/9IwYz4OWzdo/v-deo.html
Fantastic video Simon, thanks for the tips. I got a custom pre-wired pickup pickguard for my strat last year and experimented with the values of the caps a bit. I'm happy with the volume pot which is audio, but I want to change the tone pots with different value caps. I have 0.022uf for Tone 1 which controls the neck and middle, and 0.01uf for the bridge. I like them but they are still not very linear sounding like yours in the video. There's the audible "wah" effect for the first tone pot between 0-3 which I don't really like. Bridge tone pot is a definitely more linear but the audible difference is a bit smaller that I'd like. Both my tone pots are linear and not logarithmic, should I go back to audio ones? I just want my tone pots exactly how you have them in this video, usable from 0 to 10 without having that wah effect in between, but with audible difference to get more tones out of them. Any help would be appreciated. Excellent playing by the way, can't wait for LTT2.

Kingsley Drive on Noel Gallagher pedalboard!!! Well done mate....that pedal is in history now

indeed it is...
Thank you Simon!

I need this lesson!Thanks Simon~
Thanks Simon for sharing some tricks of the trade. Is this a prelude to the Druid pedal?
Not for now...I have a box I made with multiple tone caps and a pot though that I will to demonstrate the tone cap thing...
Your tone is amazing. Do you mind sharing what your effects, signal chain and amplifier?

I love this sound !
Wich pickups do you use ?
The bridge and neck are original '64 Fender Strat pickups. Not sure, but I think the middle is an American standard.
What pedals are you playing here?
More Tonepot tips please🎸👍🏼
Kingsley Juggler V3 for both clean and OD, Bard for tremolo and Source Audio Ventris for hall reverb and reverb pad effect.
What pedal records the pad? I have the Plus and it only grabs a tiny amount. Sorry if I missed it.
It's the Source Audio Ventris...
What pedal are you using to create your pads?
If you watch his Kingsley pedal platter 2, he shows how he does pads with the source audio ventris pedal. Sounds so good!
@@JUN01985 Yes, it's the Source Audio Ventris...
Is that a custom color vintage strat?
It's a re-fin...
