I need more videos like this from Grace I find them so relaxing , beautiful and informative. She seems so genuinely invested in the feeling of others and never makes it all about her .
Omg Grace is the best, another amazing video. Also it seems this video is hidden. If you type “grace neutral” this doesn’t come up unless “vice” is in it as well.
I’m new to your podcast. I’m 67 and I am hooked on your content. Your interviews and your flow with different people from all different cultures is amazing. Ty
Glad to be the first comment I love tattooing and I love watching videos on other cultures views on body art especially knowing places like Japan's history with body art.
much love to grace (& the team) on her travels and all the beautiful people she meets. I can't wait to explore beyond the usa and share sacred moments like these with as many people as I can 💖
I always get watery eyed at the end of these videos. I literally dream at night of meeting fascinating people around the world and I just hope someone somewhere dreams of meeting me and hearing my story
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I feel like since the Japanese are so dedicated to their crafts, as tattooing becomes less taboo, they will lead the world in quality.
I'll never understand why so many people in the west want to live in Japan so badly. It seems as it would be great to visit but living there would be awful, considering their work culture, general attitude of not truly accepting non Japanese into society and the social conservatism, it just doesn't sound like a good time
As an American woman married to a Japanese man, I loved almost every single moment my family lived there. My children could take trains, buses, and even their bikes anywhere and were safe. Their phones had a panic siren on them that everyone knew belonged to a child in distress. The food is beyond fresh, and the Japanese eat with the seasons. The entire nation is clean. Japanese people embrace and respect their elders and craftspeople. They embrace artistry in almost every aspect of their lives. They also believe that working for the common good is more important than indulging the desires of the individual. The worst thing I encountered were the many older homeless men and sex-trafficked foreign women.
I love anime, SO much. it's all I watch and will continue to watch. the past 4-5 months I've watched about 12 different anime. as for Studio Ghibli....... MY FAVORITE. all the films are like a security blankie for me. I even greatly enjoy Studio Colorido. I would LOVE to go to Japan but I want to be able to experience it fully and I can't do that. I have tattoos. I'm not HEAVILY tattooed like Grace is but enough. I also have neck and face tattoos. maybe one day it will be easier to get the fuller experience. my love for Japan is very wide!
She should visit the middle east. Iran has a deep history with tattooing that has been supressed since the take over in the 80's. Known lots of Persians and Lebanese that came through the shops and get tattoos when they visit the States.
I wonder how a traditional Japanese artist works on deep brown skin (African). I was born in Yokosuka and one Day would think of getting a Japanese piece .
The bias against tattoos and those who wear them goes back centuries. Even today, one can be shunned because of a criminal in the family. The dichotomy between the modern and the archaic in Japan is heartbreaking, confounding, and exhilarating.
I get that Grace is just reading scripts written for her but she knows nothing about why the laws in Japan are the way they are. I don’t think it should be dismissed that the criminal element in Japan IS the reason for their “ban” on tattooing
It seems to me that the Japanese government is onto a losing wicket if they want to keep on suppressing tattooing. People in Japan know that tattooing is much more accepted in the West and that, combined with the very real artistry of tattoo artists like these will result in a greater acceptance of tattooing.
"Made this niche hobby a global industry..." and, therein, lies the contradiction. Think about it. "Niche" and "industry" contradict each other. You've been co-opted. As soon as you put something on the internet, you become a commodity. True art cannot be commodified. Wake up.
Ps- they won their court case!

Oh thank god
Yaaaaaay!!

Shes so respectful and genuinely interested. its great to watch.
her voice is soooo kind, gentle and soothing
I feel like Grace could return to a lot of these places and get even deeper into the cultures. I just hope this series continues.
This is so beautifully done! I love the needles & pins series - more of that, please! Grace is so empathetic and lovely - I love it!
I have been WAITING for another Grace-led video

Two of my favorite things in one series, tattoos and travel.
Incredible and inspiring 💖! Thank you for continuing this series, it is an absolute joy

It already feels like their tattoo work is top notch

Orange hair on grace looked awesome
Great episode! Nicely done. 👏🏻
is this a re-upload or is it new ? half of me feels like I've seen this before the other half i feel like its brand new lmao
I think this is a re-upload! I remember it too!
I-D did a similar piece on Korea’s tattoo scene like couple years ago that might be what your thinking of.
I think its because there is hundereds of videos on this topic.
2017 was first posted
She's gorgeous 😍
I feel like grace is single handedly carrying VICE
If Grace and Taji made their own channel Vice value would plummet by 90%
Its funny because these videos are a few years old now. I haven't seen any new shows with her since.

36:12 Was the contour (line work) also done using the handpoke technique?
Wooo studio ghibli!!!!
Does anyone know who did Horimomo’s sleeves?
haven't i seen this before?
I think the videos were taken down for a while, I'm not sure why but they brought them back.
Most likely. They were released a few years ago, not sure why they've been re-released.
I remember seeing this on Vice a while back.
Lovely
Grace looks amazing with glasses. You should wear them more often!
Do an episode on Sak Yant
15:40 If anyone else can relate to having a tattoo location at that part of the body... IYKYK

I wanna be friends with all those guys at the single party they look like so much fun 😄

PERFECTION.
Can we get the animeman Joe to react to this?
hy
I wonder how a traditional Japanese artist works on deep brown skin (African). I was born in Yokosuka and one Day would think of getting a Japanese piece .
I hope things change in Japan in regards to body mods. Body mods aren't hurting anybody except the people who get them. 😆
image trying to to explain to them that their laws on cannabis is based on misinformation and propaganda lol

Benny and Mica cat T o T you beautiful souls
I have a pokeball tattoo from pokemon...I went to tokyo and when I showed people my tattoo they'd respond with" wow Team rocket" lol it was fun
I get that Grace is just reading scripts written for her but she knows nothing about why the laws in Japan are the way they are.

2:40 ;
I swear she sounds like looney lovegood erm, Luna.
I hate the fact that the government want to ban something that built japan. I guess no body likes to stick with traditional values. That's just sad.
Ireszumi is the Japanese word for tattoo. Tebori is the word for traditional hand tattooing.
