Very interesting. The speaker’s explanations are very clear

I'm so excited to learn about Chi Running. It's really something that goes along with my way of being very nicely. This video was a great introduction, even providing a bit of practical science. Thanks a lot!

Finished my first Half Marathon using this technique. Will run like this forever now, no problem with knees, shins or ankle pain. I did have those issues when I ran landing on my heels. Thanks, very very helpful.

Katherine, I know about Chi and the differences with Pose. I think Chi and all other runningtechniques are fine. It's good that people have several options to choose from. Thank you for your offer to discuss this further. I definitely will contact you if I feel a need to do so. If you believe Danny is just fairly speaking for himself, I would say he's a brilliant man. Not as brilliant as Romanov, but still.
Wish you and Chi all the best. I seriously mean that.

Great video. I think Chi Running is fantastic. I do believe, however, that there does need to be a push off of some sort in order to move forward, After all, if all we did was lean, we’d fall on our face - not move forward. For that to happen a force would need to be applied to the ground. I think Chi Running does a great job in teaching you how to “minimize” that push off, but that push off does need to happen under the basic laws of physics. I would like to see that reflected in how the technique is taught.

@007cambon Thank you. We're glad you can put this information to use!

    (continued from my previous post)
    3. Pose is big on using minimalist shoes whereas in Dreyer's book he simply recommes lighter weight shoes with highly flexible soles.
    4. Pose seems geared for competitive runners more, and emphasizes plyometric conditioning exercises at the outset of training.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The real story is that Danny designed ChiRunning after years of running with injured knees. He's trying to help fellow runners enjoy their lives as runners, not make money. He incorporated what he learned about body movement from T'ai Chi and made it work with running. Have you tried ChiRunning?

    @grimatongueworm Romanov does have a holistic view on running and movement in general. I like this phrase of him;
"Pose Method is much more than just a collection of mechanical movements of the legs, arms and body. It's a multi-level phenomenon. Your mastery of the mechanical aspects of the Pose Method will reflect the level of your depths of understanding and the will power of your personality.”

Great vid. I have bought the book and am working on technique. I did eight miles last night and could have done another eight today.
I think there is a huge misunderstanding in the reliance on shoes to do the work on form for you.

Personally I combine elements of both styles in my running, rather than sticking rigidly to either. The Chi Running book is a lot easier ot read (plus costs maybe 1/3 as much) as the Pose book. Romanov has some valuable ideas but he is very long-winded, circular and pedantic in his writing style.

@grimatongueworm Hi, although the backgrounds of pose method are indeed well based on loads of scientific based articles, research and the laws of nature, Romanov is definitely not STRICTLY focussed on the biomechanics only.
The method of teaching and the key to success is closely related to our perception (awareness) of movement. The ability to detect differences in our body senses (in all kind of ways), will enable the athlete to change what's necessary to run in the most efficient way ;-).

@Thjeko Romanov seems focussed strictly on bio-mechanics, which is fine. Danny moves much more into a mind/body element with Chi running. Do the techniques overlap? Sure? Just as "Born to Run" points out that American Scott Jurek and the Taraumara natives ran almost identically though they came from utterly distinct origins. They both discovered the elemental fundamentals of running. There's room for more than one voice to teach people about better running posture.

@grimatongueworm Yes, there's more room than one voice to teach people how to run. I also stated this on my "Chi running Danny Dreyer" vid on my Thjeko channel (read description). People should decide for themselves and do what they think is best, based on their own investigation and feelings. Cheers :-)

Yes I actually had a session with a master Chi-coach a couple of weeks ago. Very nice and interesting. We shared our different visions on running in theoretical- and practical sense and enjoyed it a lot. We highly respect eachother as runningcoaches. I think it's just too bad and sad that DD takes so much from Pose (more and more) to support his running theories without giving Romanov the credits for it. That's all. I'm sorry:(.

This video is a very heavy on the theory and light on concrete technique...probably because Mr. Dreyer understandably doesn't want you to not buy his excellent book.
As for Pose Technique, the main differences are:
    1. in Pose they tell you to increase cadence in order to increase speed, whereas with Chi Running they tell you to lean forward more thereby increasing your stride.
    2. in Pose there is more emphasis on pulling with your hamstrings rather than pushing off with your quads.

Danny Dreyer only invented his running technique after he took a course Poserunning with Dr. Nicholas Romanov. He's just making money with the story of someone else. Shame on him! There are still differences compared to Poserunning. Differences in practical sense and also regarding to the scientific- and biomechnical backgrounds. I'm sorry for the true Chi-fan, but I thought it a fair idea to let people know about the doubtful backgrounds of the origin of Chi.
