This is very nice to show how to restick the mat. My biggest complaint is even NEW mats don’t stick. Scan n cut has a defect regarding this issue. We should not have to purchase something to be able to use a new product. Adds to our cost and time. I may write the company. I think you should too. You are a good spokesperson for their product. Thanks again for this fix.
Sheri Lee, I have written and called the company multiple times about this. Brother has sent me a new mat more than once. I have three machines. They also sent my Sister a new mat. So, I do think you should call Customer Support. Although I am not an "official" spokesperson, I do love the machine and love teaching others how to use it.
I just cleaned a mat yesterday using De.Solv.it® Sticky Stuff® Remover Liquid 🇬🇧. I use this to get the glue part of price labels etc off items. Just pour some on the mat surface and spread it around to start dissolving and listening the glue. Then I used a large plastic baking scrapper to scrape it off. Keep working all the way round. Any stubborn but thin areas left over can be wiped with some scrunched up kitchen towel/paper with some more of the product on it and rub over those areas. I use the large nib 2-way glue too but lay it in crosshatch lines across the mat and the 4 edges of the white square area (a tip I got from 1st ever vid I saw of re-sticking a mat) . Next time I’ll try your method of missing with some water & spreading all over with my fingers. Love your vids ❤️
Thanks EH! Sounds like you have the method down and your system works well.
Thank you!!! I am new to scan n cut. My mat has never held well even with tape. I'm so glad to see this video!
You are very welcome Janet! Welcome to the ScanNCut World. You will love ❤️ it here.
A baby wipe and the Zig chisel worked for me after finding your video. I had only cut about half a dozen sheets. Thankfully the Zig dried within an hour so I wasn't out of action for ages.
I do what you do. However I didn’t realize I should put another layer of the glue. So I still learned something. 😀
Thanks Barbara. Sometimes I only do one layer and while that works, the sticky just doesn't last as long. That is why I advise my Crafty Friends to use 2 layers. Thanks for watching.
Thank you, love your videos. Take care during this crazy time in our country and keep well.
Susie, it is a crazy time! Crafting is what keeps my sanity through it all. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the Tips on cleaning the mats. That's better them buying new ones all the time. I bought 3 new ones to have extra in between cleaning them. Great video Thanks again!
I bought some many mats before I figured out a better way. Thanks for watching Gerryann.
Thanks for this. I have done it twice with my mat and it works great.
I so need to do this badly. I even have the Zig glue! No excuses. Thanks for such a good tutorial 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!
Wow, thank you for your tutorials! Won't be spending fortune buying new mat. 😆🥳
I finally cleaned my mats which had lost their stick and had lots of paper bits. I used baby wipes and did a little scrubbing. Then laid down the Zig 2-way Glue. I haven't used the mats since but they feel and sound sticky! Thanks for the tutorial!
I love that you also listen for the Sticky Sound. It is a beautiful thing. Thanks for your comment Donna Jo.
I was just gifted a DX machine so I am a sponge soaking up information on how to use it. Your videos are a great help. thanks as always for sharing.
That was such a wonderful gift. I hope you are still making the most of it.
I used a baby wipe to wipe off the old glue, used pinflair stencil glue and a sponge roller to cover the area.. Works brilliantly. Won't be buying new mats for a while
Great tip! I use a lot of sponge brayers for coloring. I think they would work well for spreading glue evenly. I love to extend the life of my mat. Glad you are watching.
I've used zig glue to restock my silhouette mats and it worked very well. Will try this with my new scan and cut mat, it wasn't very sticky right off.
I made a discovery a few weeks ago which may (or may not) be suitable for these mats. I buy a spray on log burner/BBQ cleaner (it is a pump spray not an aerosol) for what it is intended but I found out that if you spray that on sticky mats and leave it a few minutes, the glue comes right off. Literally leaving mats like new. Now it might also take the print off - in my case this was not an issue. I made a video on it because it was just so easy!
Cool, thanks for sharing that. That is the first I heard of that. I assume that after the adhesive comes off, you need to restick it. Sure beats scrubbing the adhesive off. Thanks for sharing.
@@PaperedChef Yes, it takes ALL the adhesive off. I had some mats that were so gunked up and covered in bits and glitter etc, after this stuff, you'd hardly know they'd been used. While i tend to use Tack it over and over,to re stick mats, the Zig chunky marker is a perfectly good alternative.
Thanks for the great video. I used alcohol wipes for hands and those actually worked well to clean off mat. Then applied zig glue as you showed and mat was super sticky again.
Great tip CM! Thanks for your comment.
I love this video !! I need to re-stick one of my mats - this video came just in the nick of time :D
I love hearing that this was both timely and helpful. Thanks Jeannette.
Good morning. Thanks for all your SNC info!
You are very welcome Linda. I'm glad you are watching. I'll keep the tips rolling.
Kim- thanks for sharing with us! 👏👏👏💕
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching Judy!
Oh my gosh, perfect timing!! My mat has lost all stickiness! Was gonna order one tomorrie. And I already have Zig glue. Goes without saying what I’m doing in morning. Thx Kim, love this video. Girl, you’re AWESOME. 🥰🥰
Well I am glad that I could save you some $. I have a lot of mats but there are a few of my favorite mats which always load correctly so I find myself re-sticking them over and over again.
Thanks for sharing! Works very good. The mats are quite expensive to replace.
Oh yes! This saves you lots of money for sure. You are very welcome Sue! See you around my channel where there are loads of other tips & tricks.
I have a couple new mats used maybe once and don’t hold the cardstock very well. Thank you for the video. Doing two tonight and two tomorrow.
I’m glad this video was helpful for you. I hope this method brought your mats back to life Susan.
Thanks for sharing again. This has saved me a lot of money. When I first got my Scan n Cut, I watched a video of yours regarding re-sticking the mat. I don't remember if you went into this much detail or just provided the name ZIG 2 way glue product. I always always put the clear plastic on mine when not in use and I keep them in the original plastic they came in.
Kathy, oh yes, the plastic. That is missing now but I will add some cling wrap to the mats before I give them back. I have definitely showed this before but I'm not sure how great the camera angle was so it never hurts to share it again. Thanks for watching.
You are brilliant at demonstrating thank you.
Very helpful advise, thank you. Mine are getting to the stage of needing to be re-stuck so I have just been using tape but sometimes it lifts.
Even just washing the mats helps. Then, when you restick them, they are good as new.
I use the same cause u showed me on the last video, I love that glue, thanks again my friend ♥️♥️♥️♥️
You are very welcome! I hope you are still doing this!
Thanks for the video. Try using LA totally awesome all purpose cleaner from the dollar tree. I saw it on another video and it works. You spray it on and let it sit 5 or 10 minutes. Then you scrape it and rinse it. It's amazing. Then let it dry. Then add the glue and a bit of water. I hope you give it a try. Much easier then scrubbing. Hugs
Susan Crosier , that awesome cleaner is great for so many different jobs. Actually never thought of using it for cleaning my mats. Thx so much
Great suggestion! I like hearing about magic solutions. You rock Susan!
@@mydyisgod I hope you give it a try. I was amazed.
I use this to clean my Cricut mats and make them sticky again. Very inexpensive and works great! Was wondering if this would work the same way on DX mats. Will have to try it out.
@@dolphinlover2 Oh yes, I use this method on CM and DX mats.
Great video and clear explanation. I have recently purchased the zig glue and will use your method in the future so thank you.
Glad it was helpful! I use the ZIG glue all of the time.
Thanks so much. My first try with the mat that came with the machine was it was too sticky and tore the paper all to shreds. So, I’m going to try the lighter tack mat.
Me too. I think I used too much glue and not enough water.
Jan, that happened to me when I was first starting out. That is why I use paper with low fiber to start out with to help condition the mat.
Great video thanks will have to buy this so can get my mat sticky scanNCut ones
Thanks Linda! I’m glad you gave this a try. I hope your mat is sticky again.
Great video! I was in a hurry and needed to use it so I applied what I thought was a little zig glue directly on the mat without cleaning and not fully coating it. Now it is too sticky, I tap it on my clothes to try to get some lint before using but it still tears my paper at times. I am going to have to clean it and start fresh. I will follow your tips.
Carmen, the problem of being "Too Sticky" never lasts long. I have also used the lint trick. I am grateful you are always watching. Thanks.
It’s good to know! I’m new to this, so any info I can get to save extra money! Thank you.
Oh yes, I use the same mats over and over for months or even years and they haven't fallen apart yet. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing! I've just put 1st layer on...question: Do you add water again when you do the 2nd layer?
Oh yes, water helps it spread better and gives us the perfect thin layer of adhesive.
I use ZIG 2-way glue for resticking all my mats also - I think it works the best!!!
Oh good. I love the stuff. My Sister is getting the rest of this bottle. It lasts a very long time. Thanks for watching Cheryl.
Great idea. Thank you
You are very welcome Linda!

Thank you so much for this video. I have cleaned and retacked my mat and it’s great! The only spare I have is a knock off by Artistix. I cleaned it and retacked it also and it’s fine but not as good at the ScanNCut one. I am feeling a need to have a good backup but I’m having a very hard time finding one for my CM350. They are very hard to find in a 12X12 standard tack. Is it possible to buy a low tack, which I have found, and add more tack to it to make it stronger? The only place I have found the standard tack ones is a quilt shop in Montana. I’m in California so will have to have them shipped if I can’t make use of the low tack ones. Thanks so much for helping this old lady out 🥰.
Hi, thanks so much for the video! Congrats!☺️ I was really worried about buying and buying mats...but with your video, I could breathe! Jejeje I have a question...how much time should I wait between layer and layer? Thanks in advance.🤗
Oh just wait an hour or so and add another layer. It will turn from blue to clear pretty quickly. Wait several more hours before using the mat. Thanks for the well wishes. Happy New Year!
Thanks so much!
You are very welcome! I’m glad you are watching!
Great tutorial
Thanks Mary! I appreciate you watching.
Try to use some acetone. It will remove all the glue in seconds. I love you channel.
That is a good idea 💡- thanks for sharing and watching.
When you do your second application do you do it the same way? Add a little water and then the glue?
Yes Teresa, if you do a second application, do it the same way. It is not always necessary. Thanks for watching.
any suggestions for what to use for a mat cover if I've lost mine?
This is pretty much how I do it. Only I use the pen not my fingers. I love Zig.
I’m glad this works for you too Diane. Thanks for watching.
Hi Kimberly, I do have a question, when you apply the second coat of glue do you also add water? Thanks in advance.
Oh yes Marie, I always add a little water to help be spread out the glue and to prevent it from clumping up in one spot.
Can you use Alcohol to remove the adhesive?
I've tried without much success but everyone keeps saying that the Totally Awesome spray from Dollar Tree works great. I just wash my mats and scrape off the adhesive. There is not much on there and I leave a little on there anyway because it seems to help my new adhesive stick better because it has little bumps to adhere to.
Nice hack to avoid rebuying maths. So for me in Belgium I can get that glue for around 11eur 5,95 EUR + 4,75 EUR shipping costs. How many mats can you do with one stick ? Cause I can get a math for around 16 eur without any shipping costs. nicking and diming here but that is what it is for right :)
I have a standard tack mat and two low tack mats. Do you very the amount of glue applied?
No Daphne, because no matter which kind of mat I start out with, they all become “Low Tack” mats very quickly. I add the same amount of glue to each and it comes out fine. You can vary it but it will soon become less tacky so you should be fine either way.
@@PaperedChef thank you. I keep one mat less stick for paper. And the others for card. I haven't scraped mine as thoroughly as you do. I will give that a try.
Thanks so much for this video! :) Question for you - I'm reading and seeing that some people use wipes between uses. Basically, after they know they're done, they use a wipe to run over the mat to take off paper fibers, etc. I'm wondering if you have any experience with that. :)
Yes, some people use alcohol free baby wipes. Unless I have a lot of paper stuck on the mat, I just don’t bother with doing that. It is easier for me to just go wash my mat in the sink. It gets the lint off easier than a wipe does. Sometimes wipes end up adding more lint to my mat.
@@PaperedChef Thanks for responding! :)
I sometimes use wipes but they end up sticking fibers to my mat so it’s easier just to wash my mats in the sink.
oh wow just did this and the backing paper of the vinyl would not come off and now its stuck to the mat! How do i get it off???
Before you do the second coat do you add water before adding glue?
Yes, I always add a little water to the glue to help it spread.
If I can't get this glue. (Live in Denmark). What else can I use?
I have some Aleene's Tack-It over & over left from living in US. It's VERY sticky.
Perhaps it could be mixed with water.
I’ve used low tack stencil spray and it works well. You can always wash it off and try again if it doesn’t work.

Thanks for watching!
Hi I have some old mats that I have restuck with temporary stray adhesive many times but they have become floppy. Any ideas or is it time to bin them ?
As long as your mat keeps loading and it is sticky, it doesn’t matter if it’s floppy.
I did this and it pulled the paper off my vinyl, is it cause I didn't add water when I put the glue on?
No, it was just the type of vinyl. Some backings rip easily I have used this glue with and without water. Just spreads better with water.
This is great! Thank you for sharing. Did you add water when you added the second layer?
Oh yes, I sprinkled some more water on the mat and wet my hands to let them drip all over. Makes the glue spread much easier. Sometimes I use a sponge for spreading the glue but today, I just got my hands dirty.. Thanks for watching Deb.
One of the ladies at Michaels check out told me that they had not done very many 40 or 50% coupons because they didn’t want overcrowding due to Covid. Not sure if this is true. Michaels has a new CEO and it makes more sense that this person has done away with the larger coupons.
Well Hobby Lobby still has their 40% coupon and they are not very crowded. That sounds like a BS reason to me but it makes sense why every time I went to Michaels this summer, only a 25% coupon would pop up on my phone. Thanks for your comment.
Mats in Australia are $40AU.
I’m guessing that’s reasonable compared to ours. It’s just better to restick them so they last longer.
Mine 1st one got holes
Happened to me too. I used duck tape on the bottom to fix it.
The coupons for michaels have been crap for weeks. They are getting zero business from me LOL, and with them no longer accepting competitor coupons boooooooo
I know, right. The coupons are lame and they keep shrinking the size of their paper crafts section.
