I don't know if you mean like listening to the album in order. But in my opinion the album has a lot of great songs that just are not well "paced". Like the playlist could use some different order.
[Verse 1] Moscow's still red, the young man's dead Gone to heaven instead The evening news says he was confused The motorways will all merge soon Lottery winner buys the moon They've come to save us, the space invaders are here [Chorus] He thought of cars And where, where to drive them Who to drive them with But there, there was no one, no one [Verse 2] There's panic at London Heathrow Everybody wants to go up into the blue But there's a ten-year queue Columbia is in top gear It shouldn't snow this time of year America's shot, she's gone and done the lot, oh dear [Chorus] He thought of planes And where, where to fly to And who to fly there with But there, there was no one, no one [Refrain] La, la-la, la-la La, la-la, la-la, la-la La, la-la, la-la La, la-la, la-la, la-la [Chorus] He thought of cars And where, where to drive them And who to drive them with But there, there was no one, no one [Refrain] La, la-la, la-la La, la-la, la-la, la-la La, la-la, la-la La, la-la, la-la, la-la La, la-la, la-la La, la-la, la-la, la-la La, la-la, la-la La, la-la, la-la, la-la
This song from 'The Great Escape' is truly evocative and represents one of the band's highest artistic peaks. He Thought of cars is a photograph of a chaotic present imbued with alien and sci-fi paranoia. A dreamy song with psychedelic effects in which Coxon's energetic riffs are perfectly blended with Albarn's suffered voice; while the pressing bass lines (as well as technically superb) drag the listener as if he were on a boat at the mercy of waves; now placid, now more furious (in a journey with no end and no beginning). Many times, as an Italian fan😀, I wished that He tought of Cars came out as a single accompanied by a nice ingenious and visionary video; patience, after all, back in '95 I was just a kid...and you can't have everything! A heartfelt greeting to the whole band!
i’ve literally been sleeping on this entire album. it’s so good. edit from forever later (5 years?): this is such an incredible album. it may not be my favorite (that honor goes to think tank & 13) but it’s still great. this song is especially one of my favorite blur songs ever, and every time i wonder why they’re my second-ever favorite band, i think to songs like this, because it’s just that impactful.
Always make me think of 9/11 this song. Saw Blur back in 22/10/1995 in the Kings Hall in Belfast. Still the best concert that i have ever been to. They debuted this album on their British tour.
Blur were just as dark as Radiohead, man. Yet they're the ones always credited for articulating that alienation stuff. Hate to be comparative. Just sayin...
Albarn's lyrics were probably better than Thom Yorke's, but Radiohead's music (especially on OK Computer) probably echoed the darkness better (and sadly almost no one gives a s*** about lyrics)
actually, Damon in his carrer was very criticized (justifiably) for his frequently observational lyrics.. this album is the best example of it. i really cant stand it...
@@elmer4090 "and sadly almost no one gives a s*** about lyrics" You know, I always thought it was the opposite. I know people who seem to dislike any instrumental tracks a band releases, and others would constantly delve into the meaning of the lyrics to an unnecessary degree.
Is this supposed to be like a day in the life, guy who dies in a car crash, who was confused, the opening sounds quite similar, and the acoustic guitar
This made me smile haha Though I've always thought their album covers were fitting and effective. This one for instance makes total sense with the title of the album and the overall theme of it, of escapism and dissatisfaction in the modern world. It also has some sort of elusive charm, I don't know...I just really like it. My favourite though is the self-titled one, so dark and bizarre...it goes well with the sombre feeling of the album
No one really cares, both great bands... All those band a vs band b debates seem silly now. Hell, I'd rather listen to Elastica than whatever is on the radio today.
Who:) Come on... they don't deserve to be mentioned in competition with these guys....and how GOOD is this song....makes me feel happy to be depressed;)
Love the guitar effect on this. Gives it a certain ambience. And this is why I despise the shitty chart music of today. Because there’s nothing with any depth to it like this.

@@k-leb4671 Just single got "Killer Cars" (1995, and performed that song live since 1993) and before, on 1993, on the "Drill" EP they did a song called "Stupid Car". Don't know how close or fan is Thom to Blur or Damon (they used to criticize each other for once for political differences), but "Airbag" comes from the already known fear of Mr. Yorke to cars (after a pretty bad accident). With no more to say, the song on this video is absolutely a masterpiece and sure you can feel like this could influence Radiohead in some way. Greetings for all Blur and Radiohead fans.
There are four men in Blur and each of them are essential. The drumming, the bass, the guitar and the singer. I read Alex James book, he's a twat. But a fantastic, inventive bass player. Yep. Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Blur is like an iceberg. Most people think Blur is just about the tip of the iceberg and they don't know that they are actually missing out a lot.
Same with The Cardigans, with the tip of the iceberg being Lovefool
Nah, The Great Escape is one of their most famous album, it's not like this song is unknown.
@@rike94 it’s not unknown but it’s not that popular either.
Unfortunately they have been saddled with Boys & Girls by the radio stations.
Blur, especially on this album, are very dark and deep, but in a cynical, satyrical and very subtle way
Alex is such a busy bass player. I think that's a big part of what made this band sound the way they do.
Alex carried the sound of this album, even slightly more than Graham imo

This song reminds me of how weak and short is life, and how simple is to live and love, the only ones that make it difficult are us
This song is perfect. That riff sounds like if that guitar broken, I really love it.
Coxon and James are both laying down some serious filth on this album.
