  • In this video I'm improving an old painting of poppies and daisies to add more focus, contrast and texture. I'm using Golden Open Acrylics on canvas panel. In the video I mention Golden Light Molding Paste, but I didn't have to use this medium as the paint has very good body and holds the brush strokes very well. I sped the video up quite a bit to show the overall progress since the actual painting took several hours. I hope you find this video helpful!

I've been thinking about trying golden open acrylics, & after watching this video, it looks like it would be worth it. The painting turned out great!

Thank you, Amanda! I did find them easier to work with than regular acrylics, and they are pretty thick and give you good coverage. Hope you enjoy them! :)

Yes I like the improved version. I have worked with Golden Heavy Body acrylic paint, and recently bought the Golden Open body. I was told not to use them under the faster drying Heavy; only use Open body over the Heavy body because of the different drying time.
I was wondering, if I used the Open body first, then let it dry completely, would it be alright to paint over it with Heavy body? Thank you

Claire, I think as long as the layers are dry, there is no difference in the order. Open acrylics are only different in the way that they have a medium added to them to slow the drying process, so I would imagine that if a layer of quick drying ones is painted on top, it could then move or flake off. Thank you for watching the video!
