They were good standalone films and in many ways better than the books, which were a bit overstuffed and left alot unexplained. The Death Cure in particular was excellent, and on par with the first film overall. While The Scorch Trials was somewhat dissapointing and the weakest link in the chain, it's still a solid action film.

that first crank that is still like 30 % human self is the scariest moment of the entire series for me, literally gives me chills like nothing else in the entire series, shes so god damn frightening and the surprise factor, the sound effects , that look, the shaking etc. so scary

I don't see that Newt got infected by them because I heard that Newt gets infected with the Flare virus while driving through a tunnel with Thomas and Frypan...
Those cranks who spoked were freshly bit. And it was confirmed when infected and barely conscious Newt tried to kill Thomas.

Huguenot Tunnel near Cape Town South Africa... Although this particular shot is either the service tunnel next to the main tunnel or maybe it's an old tunnel. I'm not entirely sure. It'd be interesting to go see it & see if you could get a tour of it
