Dear Sanjay, I have now watched several of your videos and I feel you are doing a great public service by enlightening us in matters of the utmost importance - our health! You are particularly skilled at explaining very complex issues so that the layman can understand; please keep up the good work. Thank you.
Thank u so much Doc for explaining things in such a simple way, five months ago I was diagnosed with coronary artery disease. I am on five different meds, i am having a lot of side effects, can hardly get out of bed
I took aspirin for 27 years after open heart surgery in 1994. It was useful as I have a Carbon mitral valve. At 70, I stopped as the sticky parts of my platelets had been stripped by the aspirin. Nicking myself shaving caused bleeding for a week. The risk reward while using warfarin was too much and I withheld it. Also, this medication had absolutely no medical oversight despite having a complete medical team for decades.
In dealing with the aftermath of a heart attack you among the many are very understandable and the unbiased truth you deliver will save lives and help with quality of life issues thank you
I'm 67 and I have crippling arthritis that runs in the family. 20 years ago started getting CRP levels tested and each year it was increasing. I had an array of blood tests and I have not found a doc who knows what to do. I had a brief conversation with a researcher who studies CRP levels and he said aspirin does bring levels down. But I have asked a community of docs what I am suppose to do and no one wants to take on this concern of CRP levels and what to do about it. I had a doc tell me I'm doing everything right, nutrition, exercise. Ive had consultations with the specialty lab and they thought it might be my insomnia that started 20 year ago when I went into menopause. Ive had plenty of testing to see if I am bleeding and nothing is showing up. Aspirin really helps with pain. Better than using narcotics. I know you probably won't see this post but I thought I would at least express my appreciation for aspirin.
Thank you for this. I’m dismayed by how many 70 year olds who take 5-6 medications then go ahead and take ASA without doctor’s advice because some senior’s magazine advised it. Being able to have a thoughtful conversation about this, ca2+ supplements, and proton pump inhibitors makes me a better doctor, friend, and daughter. I’m grateful for your videos.
I still have to take aspirin, for good reasons you outline, but I have abandoned P.P.Is for their known long-term damage.. Your videos provide an invaluable service.
Good morning Dr Gupta. My name is Donna. And 3 years ago, I discovered that I have heart failure and an irregular beat. Which was a surprise to me, because it was not really bothering me, except that I started having this breathing problem, that I just thought was my usual, winter allergy from the neighbors chimny smoke. It was worse then usual. And I was starting to get swelled legs. And up until that, for my whole life, I have never been sick or diseases. I never took any medications, except the occasion asprin. I don't even get colds and flue, hardly ever but now, suddenly this. I have a bunch of family people, that had heart problems, which I think, is genetic and I thought maybe that missed me. But I guess not. I am 62 now. But when I was told that I had an irregular heart beat, I was at a little clinic and they were alarmed and wanted me to hurry and go straight to the hospital emergancy. But I have a dog, that needed somebody to look after her, so I went home instead. And the next day I went to the hospital. And I still felt pretty good. I certainly did not feel like I was going to drop dead, any moment. I was at the hospital for several days. And from that moment on, I have never been the same again. They filled me up on a ton of medications, which have been changed a few times. And I became like a zombie for 2 and a half years. I have never been so sick, in my life. And the worse of those medications were blood thinners. I started having racing heart, breathless and 10 other side effects. First I was on Coumadin and then Xeralto. And during that time, I was in the hospital 4 times. I had sepsis around my heart and nearly didn't make it. Then 3 blood clots in my brain. Then bleeding. They took all night filling up my blood. And during the bleeding episode, the doctor, took off the Xeralto, cold turkey. And because of that two of the blood clots happend. Two clots, traveling together. The other clot was because I was unable to take my Xeralto for 3 days and that is how quickly it happens. It is the Xeralto that I mostly blame for all of my problems for 2 years. Even though I got the strokes, the bleeding problem that I had, began to go away and after 2 weeks, the bleeding went away and has not returned. And as the bleeding went away, so did nearly every single side effect, that I was having. I felt nearly as good, as before taking all of those meds. Including the racing heart and breathlessness. The strokes still cause problems. So now I will only take asprin. I decided that I don't want to take any more other meds except Torsemide. I know that it is not perfect but it is the only thing that keeps my legs and lungs from filling up. And when you said magnesium, I tried that too and it seems to be helping really good for the swelling. I think that maybe I am sensitive to medications. Any way, I do enjoy your channel and you have good information. So I thank you for that. And Merry Christmas to you.
I take a chewed up aspirin when I can’t take the pain from sciatica. I take it on a full stomach with lots of water. Helps my heart not hurting also. Only medication I take. Thank you Dr.
I had a quadruple bypass 14 yrs ago. I was prescribed aspirin which I took for three months but it made my stomach ache… so my GP prescribed a PPI… I got indigestion and constipation ! So I stopped both drugs after 6 mths ! I sorted out my diet and walked miles! 14 yrs on I’m fit and well ( apart from recently when my Covid jab caused pericarditis)
Sanjay, I would you to know how much I really appreciate who you are not just your educational tidbits. I really loved it when you said in a recent video, how wonderful you feel when you get home from work, and you see that new people have subscribed to your cardiology channel as it showed some vulnerability. I imagine that what you see at work with people recovering from heart attacks and whatnot must give you the inspiration to keep making these great videos so as to help people stay out of the hospital in the first place You must come from a very nice family who instilled in you such virtues as love, caring, and wanting to make a difference in other peoples lives. I think your videos give people the one thing they need, hope!!! ps. I am an Afib guy in America, and I am thinking of making an appointment with you.
Dear Sanjay I do appreciate you taking the time to explain the value of taking aspirin. I had problems with the water soluble tablet. A friend suggested taking the film coated type. since taking this things have improved with my digestion.
Your knowledge is truly amazing. I have learned so much in such a short period of time from you. Especially about different heart issues. I have a periodic heart pause. I recently discovered it when I had a bout of insomnia. It was truly nerve wracking but you have calmed me down considerably with your videos on the subject. Thank you so much. I will continue watching and learn so much more.
Very informative video , well explained and immensely educating us on heart issues. You do not rush through and your persuasive tone is impressive. Congratulations.
Thank you Dr Gupta I just started following you on UA-cam and the information you give us is very important and helpful and just by watching your videos you make less sutras full and relax and for the most part it’s very useful and educational.
One of the best doctor I have seen.he is god sent.thank you for the information you give.Being a nurse I have followed your message and forward to to my clients who benefited most.
Thank you, Dr Gupta. I've watched maybe 6 of your videos this afternoon and they are all quite informative and helpful. Greetings from Florida, USA. 🌴😊
Dear Dr. Sanjay Gupta, thanks for your kind consideration. However, I wish you would recommend whether or not to take an aspirin in case of extreme emergency situations. Like in the 1st hour of a stroke or onset of a heart attack. Will an aspirin THEN help lessen the damages done of a heart attack ? Any lessening effects measured in the Troponin levels ? I would like to prepare a little emergency kit on-hand for the family. Let's keep them capillaries open !

Thank you for all your teaching us about our hearts 💕 Hi I am now 86 years young just being diagnosed with aortic heart valve leakage and also about your valve lash leakage in tricuspid mine are the other two are moderate so I have been taking aspirin as advised by the doctor should I be taking the aspirin each night and what should I be most concerned about concerning my heart thank you God bless bye-bye

This doctor makes so much sense and good info. I just wish he and others like him would follow up much natural traditional Chinese medicine as well. Such a large open window no one is tapping it.
Thank you for bringing this to light! So many older people take a baby aspirin daily, every day for life, as preventative!! Any for anyone interested, just google natural foods and supplements that contain ASA.
I have Atrial Fibrillation and take Xarelto (a blood thinner) to help prevent strokes but my cardiologist also put me on a baby aspirin a day. He said that it is to help prevent a heart attack. So now I’m not sure if I need to be taken it. It does worry me because essentially I’m now taking 2 blood thinners.
I love your videos. They are all very informative without the fluff. This information is certainly a head of its time since the media has recently informed the American public that aspirin is not as beneficial as they once claimed.
Thank you for doing this video on tablets. You're so right Dr's these days just say here take this. It's not a big deal to them. Thank you for caring about us!
Part of it is to ask questions such as what's this for? How long will I take it and how about side effects. If the doctor doesn't give satisfactory answers then you need to find another doctor.
I have been taking 75 Mg of asprin per day for over ten years with no obvious side effects. I was also prescribed Omeprezole ( PPIs) and statins but stopped taking them on a regular basis years ago. My cholesterol was only 5.1 at my last checkup, not bad consering I don't use the medications. The best advice/treatment I have ever recieved was from a nurse at rehab after having a stent put in was, wait for it.................A healthy diet and regular exercise. I'll be 70 soon and could easily outpace many people much younger than myself, I may not live any longer than most but the quality of life it returns is well worth the effort.
Thank you for this video. Question: my friend is in her 30s, is slim and does not have any health issues. She did suffer a stroke due to eclampsia a year and a half ago, but has fully recovered. She is on aspirin regimen. Will she have to be on aspirin for life or is there a safe timeline for stopping the regimen?
Very helpful, as always, Dr. Gupta. Does the study by Li et al. in the Lancet last spring on risks of aspirin in the elderly change your recommendations, esp. for us elderly patients?
Dr Gupta, thank you so much for your videos. I've shared them with all my friends here in America.I read an article years ago that by Dr Andrew Weil (who practices traditional and complementary medicine) that there may also be a link between aspirin and pancreatic cancer. Any thoughts?
Dear Dr Sanjay ..thanks for an engaging presentation on a controversial issue about the benefits of aspirin. Diagnosed with triple vessel disease, I had CABG done 21 years ago and I have been on anticoagulants ever since and also Pan 40 to counteract acidity..one more issue is that is even for surgical tooth extraction or an an upper GI endoscopy I am required to get cardiac clearance and invariably advised discontinuation of aspirin for about 4 to 5 days. There is strong family history of CAD and high triglycerides. Is it essential that I continue with daily aspirin long after CABG? Thanks and regards.
Well, perhaps I am doing wrong by taking aspirin. I have take 1/2 tablet 3 or 4 times a week for the last 40 years...all on my own doing. I am 84 years old, on no medicins. Doctors say I have the blood pressure of a 20 year old person. All blood pressure lab results are within range. No heart problems...nothing. I am truly blessed. But i see no reason to stop taking aspirin after 40 years with great results.
Thanks Dr Gupta from Zimbabwe Africa..ive had a flow divertor due to an aneuysm in the brain n was put on aspirin n brillinta anti platlet..so app i will be on asprin for life
As an ex Migrane sufferer, I truly think aspirin is a miracle drug. My migraine was so severe that I had to stand up because I could not bare to sit or lie down. I had to force my head back to restrict the blood to my brain. I took THREE aspirin but disolved in water which after 3/4 hour took my pain away. My thinking then as now is that apirin causes damage to the stomach if tablets are swallowed whole so that they can lie against the stomach wall and cause damage. What do you think Sanjay?
You are absolutely right. Remember that you can also take Ecotrin aspirin which is dissolved and absorbed in small intestine but your idea is very logical.
I had CABG X 6 in 2002. I took aspirin up until a year ago. I was too easily bruised. I was also taking curcumin, vitamin K2, fish oil, and other supplements that act as blood thinners. So, I stopped taking aspirin and noticed an improvement with bruising. But, now I'm wondering if I am hurting myself by not taking aspirin. All of my blood work is pretty near perfect and has been since 2003. What say you Dr. Gupta? Thanks!!!
Enjoy your health videos!!! You take the time to explain it in a way that we can understand the content, medically!!!! Great job, Dr. Gupta!!!! Wish you could come up with a "cure" for heart disease!!!! Take care!!!
There is a cure for heart disease! It's set out, together with medical evidence, in Dr Caldwell B Esselstyn's book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease. I'm totally satisfied with his diet and enjoying knowing I'm doing no further harm to my heart, and that it will be reversing the effects of having eaten the western diet for many years. Started the diet four months ago and I never feel hungry as I'm getting all the nutrition my cells require and I've lost weight easily and naturally - no 'slimming diet plan' or products necessary. LeAnne Campbell's The China Study Cookbook has provided me with no-oil hot meals (you can search 'no oil .....' - whatever you're wanting to get; it's how I found Plenish oat milk and Dr Coy's Vegetable Boullion for tasty soups and stews etc. I like knowing exactly what ingredients are on my plate/in my bowl. There's much useful information in Joel Fuhrman's The End of Heart Disease although I'm sticking with Dr Esselstyn's diet. His book is written in an easy-read style and will at least alert people to the what and why heart disease and why it's prevalent in the western world, and, indeed, how it could be eradicated.
@@cainrac Hello Cainrac! Thank you very much for letting me know you’d ordered Dr Esselstyn’s book. It will make for an enlightening read I’m sure. I’ve re-read the book several times now and it has been helpful to again go over the whys and wherefores of Dr E’s path to his first cohort of patients and how they fared, trialling his nutrition plan and since then. I’m excellently motivated to stay with it given that I’m enjoying it so much and reaping the benefits. The nutrition plan is much easier to align with this time around for some reason. I did follow it for a time in 2014 (can’t recall what prompted that though) but I found it harder to stay with then although I did appreciate the advantages it brought. I had to re-order the book as I’d donated my other copy, but fortuitously perhaps as the current book could perhaps be an updated version; I don’t recall the people’s progress who undertook the diet in Dr Esselstyn’s study group being reported on in quite the same way, although that might just be my memory! I certainly find the copy I have now to be easy and pleasant reading. An add-on thought - I wonder if you might also be interested at some point in reading Karen R Hurd’s book: And They Said It Wasn’t Possible. I came across it last summertime following my beautician’s sending me a link to a podcast this lady had done. The book addresses her solutions and success with people suffering with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel difficulties and rheumatoid arthritis but the information is applicable to anyone who’s got a heartbeat and is breathing. Karen was able to save her own baby’s life despite medical opinion that there was no hope. I’m not at all medically knowledgeable but found Karen’s entertaining description of the body’s digestive process from start to finish fascinating, and her discovery of how to ensure the liver’s blood cleansing job can be successfully completed is simply astounding - both astounding and simple! My local Sainsbury’s at Monks Cross, York, stocks Pease Pudding (made from yellow split peas) and I use it pretty well as standard for sandwiches - a very useful, tastier butter alternative that I’m certain Dr Esselstyn would agree with!
Thank you very much doctor. The real problem with aspirin is when used as anti inflammatory for romatoid arthritis because in order to work the dosage has to be high and as a result the side effects more severe.
Dr. Gupta, I just wish to thank you for giving us your valuable time and for educating us people world-wide 🙏

She is on aspirin regimen. Will she have to be on aspirin for life or is there a safe timeline for stopping the regimen?
Name Dropper! . . . Wish I was in Barcelona! 💖
Very helpful, as always, Dr. Gupta. Does the study by Li et al. in the Lancet last spring on risks of aspirin in the elderly change your recommendations, esp. for us elderly patients?
Thank you for your videos and information.
Thank you!
Dr gupta sir really an eye opener for ASPIRIN takers, thanks 28/11/2019
learn a lot from this video, thanks.
What about aspirin suppository? Is there such a thing? Would it be any better for GI bleeding?
I’m sure the French do this recreationally.
Yes..it was useful. My father had clogged arteries, it led to his loss of energy and life by 82. I believe I'm at risk so I'm on low dose daily.
Hi.... What part of the day do you take yours?
I take mine about 2-hours before bed and am wondering if that's alright.
@@ronbloomberg that probably a good time. Your body should tell u, I know most men suffer coronary events in the am during or shortly after sleep
Well, perhaps I am doing wrong by taking aspirin. I have take 1/2 tablet
3 or 4 times a week for the last 40 years...all on my own doing. I am
84 years old, on no medicins. Doctors say I have the blood pressure
of a 20 year old person. All blood pressure lab results are within range.
No heart problems...nothing. I am truly blessed. But i see no reason to
stop taking aspirin after 40 years with great results.
Absolutely bloody brilliant. Need Doctors like you in the bush here in Australia. Subscribed?
Thanks Dr Gupta from Zimbabwe Africa..ive had a flow divertor due to an aneuysm in the brain n was put on aspirin n brillinta anti platlet..so app i will be on asprin for life
thank you Valerie
Gupta? Thanks!!!
Truth 💞💞💞💞💞Thank you
Aspirin and anti acids damage the kidneys too - very important to know cause it will affect BP and heart
I'm aware that anti-acids are bad for the kidneys but how is 81-mg. aspirin bad for them?
Hi doctors I having a sleep ing please help me thanks
@@jeanford5358 Thank you, bought Dr. Caldwell's book!! Have a great day!!

Hello Cainrac!
Thanks Dr Gupta. It's good to hear another cardiologist's advice, I take aspirin and warfarin. I guess the benefit outweighs the downside.
U are very good Thank u For Helping Us With Our Hearts can U Give Me A Cure so Thank u
Thank you very much doctor.
The real problem with aspirin is when used as anti inflammatory for romatoid arthritis because in order to work the dosage has to be high and as a result the side effects more severe.
Thank you So helpful. 💕💕💕
Rebound effect. Thank nice stopping an article increased risk of heart problems and attack. Can’t stop abruptly
Can’t just stop once on it
Thanks Sanjay..

How about natural options for thining blood, like a clove of garlic every day
My doctor didn't suggest to take aspirin....he said just take your high blood pressure maintenance regularly...
