This is what inspired me to build a replica of the Monte Carlo Falcon and enter it on last years Monte Carlo Historic rally to commemorate the 60th anniversary.

Just watched Jay Leno review on a similar Falcon
Found it interesting that first winner shook hands with Royalty and everyone else didn’t.
Also the lady winner got flowers and a smaller trophy?
I enjoy these old Periscope Films
      Thanks for posting.

Absolutely fantastic footage, and such a wide array of machinery on show here. That version of the Monte Carlo Rally is totally different to today's version - part time trial, part auto trials, part economy run, part touring car race around the Monaco GP circuit.
I wonder how the current era of WRC cars would feel about taking on a rally of this vintage, especially tearing around the GP loop. I dare say that Rally Buddha would be working overtime.

I had a '62 Falcon. My best friend drove it off of a small cliff. After some body work it ran perfectly. It always started. Great brakes. Good little 6 cyl. engine.

      170 c.i. mill or 200 c.i.
You couldn't kill that 200 inline six, from my experience.

What a super cool video! These Fold Falcon Sprints also did quite well in touring car racing in Europe. I believe Ford used Falcons instead of Mustangs because the Falcons could compete in a more competetive class.

My first "Field car" was a 1960 Ford Falcon the elderly lady down the road had that my Dad kept running for her. When she died she left it to Dad and he gave it to me, it was 1970, the car ten years old and floor boards all rusted out but it ran and I was 12 years old and already driving since 9 on my Dad's 1964 Ford 3/4 ton pickup. Drove it all over the fields until I let a kid I went to school with drive it and he drove it into the Grand River!!! Dad dragged it out and it was done.

Leading Falcon finished in 34th place and the winner of the event was a 841cc 2 stroke SAAB. After 1963 the Mini Coopers dominated the Monte Carlo Rally. Back then front wheel drive was the winning formula

And a handicap system had effective calculated points penalties for larger engined cars.

There was so much fun and things to do in those days, and to tinker with your own vehicles and still be allowed on the road as long as it had lights! Today it takes computer controls in cars to really screw things up, and lower reliability!

The production 289 Hi-Po was first introduced in the 63' Fairlane, and very rare.
Did you see that guy test the rear springs, the car barely moved.

At least one of the Falcons appears to be a Futura and not a Sprint (FUTURA letters across rear panel rather than FALCON) but I seemed to only see the Sprint V8 badging on front fenders which is something Futuras did not have. Who knows, maybe some badge swapping/borrowing needed at the time. All three were prepped by Holman Moody.

Sprint was a Trim Package. I owned a 64 and two 65s.All were Futuras. The 64 was a Futura Convertible with Sprint trim i.e. Logos, horn button,Steering Wheel,Dash Tach, Center Console and a few other trim goodies. All my cars were 289 V8s five lug cars.

@@calescapee9642; They never put the Hi-Po in a Falcon, but they did put it in a Fairlane in 1963.
289 was a great engine regardless of configuration.
289 two barrel had good power.
