Terrific coverage! By far the most complete C.P. film I've ever seen on the internet, and it's not even close. P.F., you're making a valuable addition to the publicly viewable Carrera history here - many thanks!
WOWeeeeeeeeeeee, I'm building a 1/32 slot car circuit and have over a dozen mostly European, Panamerican Hand Made Resin Kit Car's. This is WONDERFUL reference material for me. So much better than still photo's. "I'm in Seventh Heaven" Just wish I'd discovered this earlier as I'm 76 year's old and would of loved to have much longer to enjoyed the 'fruit's of work' when the Circuit I build is finished. But THANK YOU, all the same..... BETTER LATE THAN NEVER. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
He seems to call it "the 1955 race" a few times, but it was November, 1954 and the last Carrera Panamericana. Seven Volkswagen "beetles" entered and all finished; in the last positions but they finished. they were happy.
Fantastic footage ! Interesting trivia : 1954 was the 1st year that VW brought cars to Mexico, which would explain their strong presence in the race ! 😎
Absolutely fantastic documentary and incredible to see such good footage from the wildest road race, absolutely love it. Gotta say, I LOL'd hard when the narrator was talking about Popocatépetl and said "Popo cat a pedal" :D
@17:25 check out the number 9 Packard that the body has been SECTIONED like a custom lead sled! I wonder why Buick ran the lesser powered Super (3 portholes on the fender) instead of the Roadmaster powered Century (4 portholes on the fenders)?
19m04s - a yellow 1953 Studebaker Champion passes under Zacatecas aqueduct, while Camino de Guanajuato is the soundtrack......I need a yellow 1953 Studebaker Champion :)
Very fun! The year I was born, seems so long ago. I've watched the Pink Floyd account/production many times - they competed in the race in 1991. So many similarities. In the early 60's my Pop had a Plymouth from that mid 50's era, looked pretty much like that Small Stock Dodge.
I’ve finally just watched this upload from Periscope Films… they’ve certainly got a plethora of incredible film stock that they’ve been diligently and tirelessly working around the clock it seems, in digitizing/archiving as many of them as feasible and possible! This one’s truly incredible and I came into comments to effectively say something similar to what you’ve stated, as I’ve too seen that PF production of their ‘91 race.. have it on VHS; bought that new then. Excellent coverage in PF’s production and of course, excellent music! You’re right in how so much of this fantastic ‘54 original, so reminds of that PF production. I was a bit bummed when that Buick stalled out.. but, at least them two got’er over the line, MANUALLY! Damned near killed themselves at that! I own two ‘55 Buick Super’s, both HT coupes
That was a strange race but awesome!! 1009 Miles in 5 days?? Why so long? I mean 1009 Miles in % days is a lot of time to go that far but the roads are anything but Freeways that's for sure! Danger and lots of gravel! It's a long distance rally race with cars from the 1950's
lincoln won the big car class, every year, 1950 - 1955. and the only driver to win twice, in any class. powered by the 368 cu.in. y-block. i own and drive a 1956 lincoln, but the 1956 race was canceled. my car has a mine has a 1969 grill design like the 1955 futura concept car, that later became the t.v. batmobile. my "bat-rod", has a 1969 engine a 429 cobra jet, and coil springs at all wheels and disc brakes on the front. all the floors were replaced and the trunk and rear fenders are shortened 20 ".
Now this is truly undiscovered heritage footage in regards to racing! This will fill in a bunch gaps.
Terrific coverage! By far the most complete C.P. film I've ever seen on the internet, and it's not even close.
P.F., you're making a valuable addition to the publicly viewable Carrera history here - many thanks!
Fantastic coverage of some very vintage racers
20:13 The automotive genius Ak Miller in his roadster 😊
MM .............you know he had Y block in that roadster

Absolutely unbelievable! I can’t believe such footage exists! Mini GT made a diecast model of the winner…Lincoln Capri #149! Amazing.
I have that model !
@@buick7476 Hell yeah! As do I. Love it!
A wonderful old film. Very well made for the era.
My dad did business with Ray Crawford and it's one of the reasons he bought and drove Lincolns in the 50s.
Great seeing those Buicks.
He seems to call it "the 1955 race" a few times, but it was November, 1954 and the last Carrera Panamericana. Seven Volkswagen "beetles" entered and all finished; in the last positions but they finished. they were happy.
Wow, neat find- very clean copy

Very good quality picture for the time.
Even 16mm film can look pretty darn good.
Back then even Mexico had smooth roads. Today Canada and the USA have roads that more resemble lunar wasteland than paved surfaces.
Loved it all. Great video. Good old days.
Fantastic video,Thank You
Glad you enjoyed it
Back then, the drivers had huevos and here we have the best from around the world going head to head. Now that's a race.
Yup same with pikes peak before it was gravel ..dirt...now it's paved now guys think their fast

Fabulous! Many thanks. The two Beetles take the checkered flag DFL in tandem.

@UberLummox....Google Jean Trevoux 1953 Packard for the details on that car.
Loved this!
Saludos desde Dinamarca ❤
Wow a 107 miles an hour average in 1954.

Nice find.
Do you have any vintage drag racing and motorcycle drag racing.
A beautiful film❤
OUTSTANDING !
This was fk'ing awesome!
.............they all had drum brakes the cars !!!!!
I'm not really into racing, but that was enjoyable to watch.
"Air Powered Devices"
That was so cool
This is great ! Comparable to early Watkins Glen. Thanks
The narrators voice sounds familiar.

...................and done without disc brakes !!!!!!
What happened to the sound????
A man dies and gets no more mention than a blown tire.
I hear what someone said about the music. It doesn't come in too strong until near the Durango stage. It's a great film nonetheless!
Do any of these cars still exist
Yes, a 1954 Chrysler that was involved in 3 of the La Carrera races was auctioned off in the past year.
"Mobiloil" one word? Is/was that really their branding?
William Clay Ford about 20:00 in...
It WAS good, mes amis, until it lost the audio...more than once.
Unfortunately UA-cam removed some of the audio for copyright reasons, even though we have the right to show it as it originally was presented.
@@PeriscopeFilm thats odd.
Moises Solana Arciniega's first Race
How did Lincoln win? Did it come first in the Lincoln class?
At the time. Lincoln was a hot Ford
Yeah. Lincoln took first in the big stock class three years in a row - '52, '53 and '54.
Nice film. Too bad it had to be ruined by the counter and logo right in the middle of the screen.
Relax, they are exhibiting the film for free. Purchase of a VHS tape used to be required in order to view Periscope's films.
Stop adding music. I came here for historic films. Not adaptations.
The music is part of the original program, not added later.
I suspect some of the original audio was missing, so someone spliced in the music. (At least they didn't use some heavy metal tracks..)
