"Is It Worth Buying?"
Yes. It looks aesthetically pleasing. One day I'll have red, blue, yellow and green joycons all together charging. That's my dream...lol.
AndrewAU and then you will be the very best that no one ever was
@@JoeHoeDoesSomething To get them is his real test. To use them is his cauuuuusssssee
I disagree with the locking mechanism idea. Not a bad idea, just inefficient. Here's why. First, there is no space between Joy-Cons in this dock, so having to hold a button and pull would be hard. Second, not having a locking mechanism also keeps down costs.
Just posted this response, totally agree with you.
Atlas titan guy 13 I agree with the first argument you put down not really the second a locking mechanism is not hard at all to implement at no extra charge at all unlike a RGB LED, or a USB 3.0 port to replace the built in chord
Per unit, but when you add all those costs, they have to justify the hit in profit, so it totally makes sense to not include something that you can't justify 100% as necessary.
It also prevents wear on the latch located on the joy con.
Ehh... no. That's just being cheap to me. If the stand falls, your Joy-Cons fall and break too, precisely for not having that safety lock on. And this is coming from someone who doesn't have pets or kids. Without it, it's a personal liability upon the cheapness of the company. It wouldn't cost any extra placing those in.
i dont feel like the joycon dont need to be locked in for a charging stand, you aren't carrying it to places ever
Yea but my FRICKEN DOGS BROKE THE SIDE OF THE BLUE AND BLUE DIED AND I CAN’T CHARGE WITH CONNECTING
i would use it for when i need to travel. i dont wunna take the dock im to lazy UwU
Dude, I just saw this video, looking for a good charging dock for my joycons. Hella weightloss bro. Keep it up!
Thanks for the good fun content throughout the channel John =)
Funny I was going to suggest reviewing one of these on this channel just the other day :D
It's useful for me because I have my dock out of the way so attaching joycons is a pain in the ass
Great review!
Thanks for the review. I debated this accessory quite a bit as I anticipated getting ARMS early on and knew I would need a way to charge an extra set of joycons . Ultimately I ended up buying the charging grip and I keep the other two joy cons attached to the Switch itself. Charging grip is great for MarioKart too.
most reviewers: it looks good and works.... spawn wave:let's open this up...mmm shitty wire management 1/10
Awesome charging dock review! Liked as always! :)
Hi Jesse And Mike
@@mojoproductions9870 fuck up fanboy
Hi
Looks dope good job!
I really like that purple color, what paint did you use for it? I'd like to try it myself.
Thanks for opening it up and showing us the build quality. Doing that really informs me before I buy something like this and opens my mind to future alternatives. Great video.
The reason there is no locking mechanism is because, unlike then they are attached to the switch itself, getting to the release button would be either too difficult for people with big fingers, and a general inconvenience
Damn John you look amazing nowadays!
Great video!
The lack of locking mechanism is GOOD!
What would it be needed for? It's not like the joycons are just going to randomly fly out of the charge dock. It just makes it easier to get them out when you need them.
Thanks for the video! PS: btw, i had the same exact shirt in 2017 xD
When does the podacst go up, I missed the live stream.
I almost bought the charging station but then figured that I'd most likely only have one set of Joy-Cons for a while so the Charge Grip made more sense for my use cases. Still waiting on transparent Joy-Con controllers if they ever come to market.
I personally think the charge grip is a better deal if you get an extra pair of joy con you probably need a grip anyways per pair and yeah you could get a 3rd party but then that is an extra cost (because a charge grip basically is the same cost as the charge stand). I don't see the need for more then 4 joycon. I already have 2 joycon and a pro controller and I have not been in a senerio where 4 people want to play a game so having 3 controllers is fine. I think I will get 2 more joy con later on when more colors come out I really hope double neon green come out for Splatoon 2.
Totally agree, I was going to say pretty much the same thing.
There's a identical Joy-Con charging dock from Hori (yes, it's also officially licensed by Nintendo). The only difference is that it has a Hori logo just slapped in there.
Just got this today works decently I think
Have you checked how long it takes to charge them? Because, yes, all it needs is power but power is voltage and current. If the current is low, it's useless. Just like when you buy a charger for your phone and it's much cheaper than the original ones... but the charging current is also much lower so it takes twice as long to charge. Please test those joycons chargers. Thanks.
I'm trying to decide between this and the Hori 4 Joy-Con charger. They look identical both have attached short cords. I don't care about the locking because I won't be moving them and they will be safe. Have you looked at the Hori or any other licensed ones?
This came on my suggested today after I just bought this for $17 at target with a couple discounts 🙏🏼
HORI has a charging dock too and this is officially licensed by Nintendo. I have a PowerA one like what's being reviewed and I have zero problems with it. HORI's one (after some research) seems to be no different to PowerA's except in form factor.
Is the USB3 port on the dock actually USB3 now or is it 2.0 awaiting an update? I've seen conflicting reports.
I have one of those but it goes in an angle. Definitely great if you have an extra pair of Joy cons and need them charged.
I just got one today and there fully charged now took 3hrs after its charged should I take them off or leave them on the charging dock
Good thinking, I like purple too.
I wonder how this fares against the fast snail doc it's basically this but if you only need to charge two joycons then the other side also has a USBC to charge something else and the pictures on Amazon show everything from the switch and Pro Controller to the 8bitdo controller with the joysticks
Edit: It will charge 4 joycon just like this and its on amazon for $15 at the time of posting
Hi @Spawn Wave have you done a review of HyperX Joy-Con Chargeplay Quad.
I bought this at gamestop and well the left joy con had like half battery and its been like 3 hours and is still charging :/ it takes forever to fully charge the joy cons >:( light is suppose to turn green whe fully charged but nope still red U.U
Will it charge if connected to xbox one because I wanna us them on my switch lite
You rarely need to charge the joy cons anyways cause they last pretty long. I literally just bought this dock for it to hold my two sets of joy cons because I don't like the fact when having them on the Switch dock it drives all the energy away from your Switch console getting the most potential charge.
I thing it is better to get a charging grip so you can charge the first pair on the switch and the second on the grip. and also you have two full controller
The charging grip is superfluous. A JoyCon lasts 20 hours after a full charge, so if you always keep it attached to the console, you won't experience any drops unless you're the guy who owns several pairs of JoyCons -- which in that case, a multiple charging dock would make more sense. Because remember, the system already comes with a grip sans the charger, so that's more reason why you don't need a charging grip. Plus that price, yeowch.
Ed Mx the point he's making is that you'll have 2 grips and can charge both sets at the same time. Which makes the charging grip a better deal
I wish someone could make some joycon chargers that are the same size as the joycon straps.
That'd be cool or t least make the intro llex grip with its own power supply
They made one i forgot the name but basically its like a strap when its out of battery you put the strap charger and it charges but its kinda uncomfortable to hold
no over charge protection?
I like how in the background the Xbox sign is the only one that doesn't have a picture or box of the xbox one.
liltwisted Should have the OG Xbox packaging; that would be a lot cooler.
He's probably saving a spot for Scorpio.
True.
liltwisted Probably because it wouldn't fit on the screen. That, or he lost the box...
He brought an Xbox one used. So he probably didn't get its box when it was shipped. He does have video saying he Brought one used.
There definitely needs to be a USB-C port on there, especially since the pro controller comes with a USB 2.0 to USB-C cable.
Bryan Christian brad williams
I am totally ok with them not clicking in because I could see it getting annoying having to move it around to be able to grab the joycon and pushing the button. Being able to easily slide them in and out is way better imho.
Can I connect the USB2 cable to a standard phone charger 5V 2A?
Have you done review on Joy con grip T13?
Silk this work with the Nes switch controllers?
Is the charging dock or grip better?
Is it correct if I connect the hori charger to a 5Vdc cellphone charger?
Hi Thank you for your video, I was wondering does it automatically stop charging when it's finished charging? I'm worried about battery getting burnt out.
I have this same question. Seeing that your comment is 7 months old did you ever find out the answer?
Hi @@envviro I've bought it and it doesn't stop charging mate. It's like if you leave your phone on charge overnight.
I tend to take the USB port out when it's finished charging or I lift the Joy-Con up ever so slightly of charging dock so it's not charging but it's sitting in the dock (if that makes sense lol). It's an annoying inconvenience, however I would recommend if you don't mind taking it off charge.
I never got an answer from this guy, so I hope my reply was able to help in any sort of way 😊.
@@zombie_bear1797 Thanks!
Can we charge it without the main console dock?
You should have covered the black parts of the logo so the Switch-Logo is easier to see.
It doesn't have a lock mechanism because people still get them stuck putting them backwards on the wrist strap :p
What paint did you use?
What happens if you put the controller with the buttons facing inward? Will it blow up the controllers battery?
For anyone that already has this joy-con charging dock is it worth it? Thanks
my problem is i can't find a joycon charging dock that will fit the NES joycons
Ive been charging my joy cons for hours and the indicators are still red...
Same, but mine will say charged and then after a while they will turn red for a while. As if its losing charge sitting there.
Quality video Jon(SW). Looks like 15/20 bucks would have been a perfect price for the Joy-Cons charging station. Awesome purple colour tho bro 👍.
I need them signs in the background!
Are 3rd party versions of this safe?
How long does it take to load
Eh. For a single person with an extra pair (Yellow Joy-Con preordered) and the pro controller, there's no need for this. Even with Arms once the second pair arrives.
It gets the job done so I guess it's a good buy.
I charge my and took forever to charge Two hours in the red light still on
I already have 6 joycons with the neon yellow one's coming soon so I need more than one of these!
I don't NEED them, but I want them :D
GenoCide 8 player Single Joycon and 4 player double Joycon
Wtf dude lol??? Did you delete your comment about having a joy-con charging dock like the one reviewed in the video but you clamming that the cable on yours was detachable??
I hardly managed to reply and saw others did the same now that comment is gone along with our replies???
Yeah because I was wrong. And I missed the beginning of the video where he explains about the cable management at the bottom. So I deleted a useless comment :)
CorruptibleGaming you definitely need this then.
I prefer my Charging grip instead! I can charge *AND* play at the same time...or are you just forgetting that? The charging dock charges but you can't play/use them.
+Hyper Sonic You can if you sit really close to your switch dock or wall wart! ;p
Salamander Pants Would have to be pretty desperate to do that.
I love mine works great
They couldn't make a mobile mini dock that lets you play while charging the switch and joycons instead? 😐
The dock that comes with the switch charges it what's the point of buying it?
If you have spare joy cons, then it's worth it.
20 hours on the joy cons. once my SWITCH dies in handheld mode i put it on tv mode and use the grip and continue playing once the switch is charged i got back to handheld mode still with alot of battery on joy cons honestly the pro controller wasn't even needed if you think about it and this is not needed at all unless you have extra controllers and big family or alot of friends to play mario kart.
+Monkey D Luffy2 Pro controller is a lot more comfortable.
What about putting the Joy-Cons on the Switch itself and load it there? This Thing is not worth buying it, exept you have like 6 Joy-Cons
Is there any risk of over charging the joy cons if they are left on there?
Probably not... might not leave em there for like a year, but still probably wouldn't be a problem.
why would u even need a charger? They never run down. I just put my spare set on the grip.
How much was it again?
My switch stopped charging the joycons so this is the best solution for my problem!
Piggy! Did it work?
Yup I just got mine 2nd one got mine for $19.99
I have 2 joycon soooooo no. Will get green ones in July tho
I just got one
should I get them for $10 ?
Ok so when I put my knock off Chinese joy-con controllers the lights at the top blink red
I'm watching this vid cuz I just won a Nintendo switch from a UA-camr
I don’t see how you’d break the cable not like you’d be moving it every day . And if pets are chewing cables get it out the way
Wanting the click is kind of a silly complaint. It's a pain in the ass you press the buttons to pull out joycons from anything else, at least with the Switch, the joycon pad, etc you need them to lock. Not with a friggin charge dock.
Pretty simple to use good device
I don't even need a charging grip. I just keep my joycons attached to the switch forever. so easy.
1:23 You're not ment to be looking inside it so thats why its built cheaply there.
I don’t underStand why is the wire is Back
Why do much nick picking, ok it would be nice with removal cable but the build inside and locking and even the light that you somehow seem to be bothered with.
I don't want locking mechanism. Why add something that makes it harder to remove. It works great as is. I have it myself.
Just get the charging grip that way u can play and charge
i just pick up 2 of these for $14 on ebay
why do you need that when the switch charges it🤔
8 player smash
Not having it lock in was a very intentional design decision. Who wants to fumble with having to finagle unlocking them when you have 4 plugged in there?
0:18
It looks kinda like a bad sex toy
Or you can get it at gamestop for 19.99
Your display behind you is bugging me.
Wolwort? Huh?
Damn this thing sucks! Only thing I see that is good is the fact it can charge 4 at a time and it is purple -_^
its $25 now
Honestly if the joycons were $40 to $60 at the most, I could see myself buying multiple colors, but at $80, I'll to what I have unless Nintendo release a more appealing blue or red. Before I heard the price, I figured I would get green, or even yellow, but all of the colors look like Nintendo pulled them out of their ass. GBA so colors were a fluke.
$30!? Nintendo why! I feel like a good $25 would be better
