I put my switch into a hard case whenever I travel with it. The most I bring aside from the switch itself is a charger. I also like to travel light, but I'm also not going to risk my console just to save a little space

Just traveled with my switch, I used the amazon case, worked great, didn’t worry about it being damaged. Also it’s so cheap, you can’t go wrong, parents I highly recommend it for your kids.

That armored case is pretty great. I was a bit worried of other cases since I heard my friends said their joycons were a bit funky with cases that don't isolate the sticks sooo, got that thing and it was like $4 at the time. Was, worth it. Really nice durable case.

I usually bring my 10,000mAh Portable charger, a softish shell case with all my physical games (And some microfibre cloths and a USB C cable) My pro controller (If I feel like I need it) and sometimes my dock... (Might wanna buy a minidock though.....)
For that aftermarket dock, i have used that same one he has for 3 years. It has no name, it has no weight, but it has worked for 3 years. Just note that i have always used the switch charger as well. I just upgraded to that Genki one, but really just because that one is more portable (dont need to switch charger since that one works and I am not worried about bricking the switch).
The switches portability is great! When I travel I have a mario pdp case aswell as a gamestop's biogenic erganomic grip to make the playing for long periods more comfortable. That's it besides the charger.

Not trying to hate at all but just putting it out there that using the official charger may not be a 100% solution. His theory may be correct, but most likely it has more to do with the capacitors and resistors in the board used on third party docks. I haven't done much research into this but it seems the boards are the main issue and how nintendo configured their voltage and current settings. Converting your dock and using the official charger is your best bet, good luck!
My go to case is the GoPlay Game Traveler, it’s a big case but it can hold a charger, joycon straps, 8 games, and a big controller grip to make the whole switch feel like a controller.

I honestly like the orzly case. The cartridge sleeve is non intrusive, there's nice protection, a portable battery pouch (yay!!!), a collapsible handle, and it's pretty durable but not too big.
Those cheap $30 Chinese aluminum box mini docks are ironically perfectly safe to use as long as you use the official Nintendo switch charger. The makers of the dock themselves even warn against using third party chargers. The thing is that those docks are ultra low power, so they never interfere with the switch's power needs, making them safe.

I love my elite backpack for when I travel because it holds all my switch stuff plus my laptop, DJ headphones and all my cables plus everything in my purse. I did however remove the official switch logo off the front and put D&D pins and patches on it. Seriously thinking about getting the 8 bit controller over the pro controller and getting that Slim case you use all the time for when I don’t need my backpack. I already have a waterfield case for my New 3DS XL and my Vita and they are totally worth it. I treasure the cases as much as the handhelds so I will get one for my switch to. I love the cases. They make everything feel more special.
I take every single accessory I owe with me when I travel. Switch is my favorite way to play games. That being said, if I’m just riding the subway or taking a small weekend trip i usually just bring my Switch and the SN30 Pro for 2D games.
I like the armored case myself, and usually also travel with a pro controller or a wireless gc controller for smash. Though if I'm flying and room becomes an issue, the switch stays behind and I just bring my steam deck..
Tomtoc also makes a bigger Switch case that can store the joycon grip, charger, 18 games, whatever accessories you can fit and has a built in play and charge stand. Used it on a two week trip overseas and it was perfect.
i remember during one of your livestreams i asked you about Waterfield cases and you hadn't heard of them, then you looked them up on stream and were like "$50 for a pouch, you gotta be outta your mind!" lol. thats sick you got one for free though, they're hella nice
To answer your question, i like a mix of size and durability, so the second case you showed off is something more up my alley. But like yourself, when traveling, I try to make it light. I really hope/wish that Nintendo will come out with a more portable dock that would be exactly like the one you had in the video...except you know, without any chances of it bricking my switch. I also found a replacement for the Nintendo power adapter. They came out with a USB-C to USB corde which wraps nicely and Nintendo also came out with an AC to USB plug that's much smaller than the one that comes with the console. So it wraps everything up nicely. With all of that, I bring my hori stand as I prefer it over the others. It's nice and compact, sturdy and allows you to charge your switch as you play.

I've been hunting for the "best case for me" because so many reivewers just say "this one if the best because some company sent it to me" and don't review shit about the device... I need a hard shell case as it gets slung in my bag and my bag gets pretty battered about, but I don't care for charging as my bag always has a 20000mAh power bank in it for my phones. I don't carry any game carts and never take a dock or controllers etc. i just needed a case for my device, joycons and power cables. This review helped me tick a few off of my list. Thanks mate =)

Don't update your system while plugged into the fastsnail dock, 5.0 update specifically bricked my system while it was plugged into a 3rd party dock

Good point on the sf bag. $80 is a lot but I’ve bought a $300 piece gaming equipment so yeah I’m going to be super protective of it.
To answer your question, i like a mix of size and durability, so the second case you showed off is something more up my alley. But like yourself, when traveling, I try to make it light.
I really hope/wish that Nintendo will come out with a more portable dock that would be exactly like the one you had in the video...except you know, without any chances of it bricking my switch. I also found a replacement for the Nintendo power adapter. They came out with a USB-C to USB corde which wraps nicely and Nintendo also came out with an AC to USB plug that's much smaller than the one that comes with the console. So it wraps everything up nicely. With all of that, I bring my hori stand as I prefer it over the others. It's nice and compact, sturdy and allows you to charge your switch as you play.

thank you for the full in depth and useful review here of more than one product... I've been hunting for the "best case for me" because so many reivewers just say "this one if the best because some company sent it to me" and don't review shit about the device... I need a hard shell case as it gets slung in my bag and my bag gets pretty battered about, but I don't care for charging as my bag always has a 20000mAh power bank in it for my phones. I don't carry any game carts and never take a dock or controllers etc. i just needed a case for my device, joycons and power cables. This review helped me tick a few off of my list. Thanks mate =)
