JJK is going to surprise a ton of people when we get to the shibuya arc. I think it will elevate it to classic status to see the depth akutami goes to and how he isn’t afraid to kill off fan favorite characters
Bleach has one of the best and iconic soundtracks. (Nothing can be explained and Number one are songs for ages). HxH has the best power system ever written, JoJo has best style. Attack on Titan has the best plot. Gintama has the best comedy. One Piece has the best word building.
My top 3 is the same. I actually had a really tough time deciding which is better between HxH and AoT but the main thing that makes me prefer HxH is the fact that it is a mix of lighter and darker tones while AoT has the same vibe throughout the whole series.
Gintama is so underrated, it has everything The way it started the way it progressed and the way it ended It will remain the no 1 anime in my list for a lifetime
Nope, it's not underrated. The show is always been popular especially on western. It was one of the highest grossing anime film in Japan few years ago. Just because Gintama isn't getting that attention on whatever kind of platforms doesn't mean it's underrated. Well most of the fans today prefer action-shonen genre or anime with have lots of fighting scenes. And I'm not disagreeing with you, Gintama is one of the best.
lmao same. I didn't even really know what a filler was until my wife (then girlfriend) introduced me to Naruto and Bleach back in 2005. Dragon Ball started my anime love and my sisters and I all watched Toonami after school every day. Only until ~3 years ago did I really get into all the genres though. Fav on this list is probably HxH followed by DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Bleach for nostalgia. Best newer one is JJK, though.
@@Timmycoo Dragon ball was first broadcast on the year I was born, but I only got to watch it around 95 or 96. Afterwards, nerdiness became a lifestyle. Shonen animes are the best genres followed by the likes of Monster (seinen, psychological)...

i don't think anyone would put HxH at any place that's not 1, on a class on its own, the rest of the top 10 can be close, but #1 has never been close after chimera ant arc got aired.
@@getbackem i usually do not debate #1 anime overall cause making a comparison between different genres doesn't really hold much meaning to me. However HxH is the best shonen and it's not close in the shonen category.
Honestly, I loved hunter x hunter so much, one of my first anime and still one of my favorite of all time. So good and well deserving of the love it gets, and I am excited by rumours of the author continuing the manga!
I think first 40 episodes were kinda mid though and then it gets better after that. It is very repetitive though, like I mean just same concept redone a million times.

Actually an amazing list, and let me tell you I am so happy you have Hunter x Hunter number 1. The absolute brilliance of Togashi is unmatched, having two animes in this list is absolutely insane. If only he were healthy, I think if he were, Hunter x Hunter would be the undisputed GOAT of all Anime.
I agree. If Togashi wasn't so lazy, Hunter X Hunter could have easily been the gold standard of Shonen. Hell, it kinda already is. But if he had chosen to actually put in the work, it would have become timeless and used as the metric standard for what an anime should and could be.
@@TheHeroRobertELee Hey, um. I dont know if you know this, but Togashi isn’t “just lazy” he has an illness pertaining to his back, and we do not even know the full extent of it. So rather than bash him we should be thankful for him trying to push through the pain.
@@timow6201 yeah, I get a lot of his apologists claim that, but he regularly works on other projects and is seen on vacation all the time. Personally, I find him to be the George RR Martin of manga. I have an illness and chronic back problems just like Togashi, but i could do a little here and there. Here's a fun fact: even if togashi only did a single page of manga a week (that's it), he would've finished hunter X Hunter by now. Instead he'd rather sit on his laurels and the money he made from us, rather than show an ounce of commitment and finish what he started. If he can go on vacations and work on other crap, he can finish hunter X Hunter. Lazy!
@@TheHeroRobertELee Okay, I feel like I should refrain from continuing this argument as I know too little about the whole situation. If it is true then I am sorry, but for now I am just glad he started working again. :)
D gray man is part of the big 7....One piece, naruto, bleach, fairy tail, hitman reborn, D gray man & world trigger...but I guess you could say there really was big 10 if you include Gintama, Jojo's and Hunter x hunter
This is one of the best lists I've seen. Need to watch Magi Claymore and Gintama now. I've known they are supposed to be great and been holding off on them for a while but it's time.
Sadly gurren lagann, code geass & katekyo hitman reborn wasn't able to enter top 20, but happy to see claymore got in. Great vid overall. Thank you Vinii!
As someone born in '86, of course DBZ will always be #1 in my heart, but agree with it being so low on this list. I'm just impressed to have a list with Noragami, World Trigger, and an honorable mention of Soul Eater. These are 3 of my absolute favorite shows beyond the obvious choices higher on this list. I'm also a Bleach kid at heart when it comes to "the big 3".
I was born in 89 so DBZ on cartoon network was the shit as a kid. Unfortunately, it seems dated to me now and I find it kind of boring with its horrible pacing. And with DBZ Kai updating it and the pacing, it sucks because they got rid of the superior Bruce Faulconer score. Sure Faulconer plagiarized his music, but it was SOOOO much better. The final flash theme and Gohan vs cell original music is so much better than the new DBZ Kai crap. And the fight scenes seem dated and boring now. I feel like it hasn't aged well. But Toriyamas art style is timeless. He's such a fantastic artist and very original in his style.
@@TheHeroRobertELee I was born in 92 and am feeling the same way about Naruto. It will always be one of my top picks since my cousins and I aged with the characters and binge watched it on UA-cam all night long.😂
@@caboosenori7912 oh, I still love Naruto lol. Too bad Boruto butchered it so poorly and put a bad taste in my mouth for the whole franchise. The irony is that Naruto STILL has better animation (and it wasn't that amazing to begin with) than Boruto does in the modern age, setting aside the Momoshiki fight of course. But the the story, plot holes, power scaling, and more really puts the whole Naruto franchise in a bad light now thanks to the dumpster fire that is Boruto.
@@TheHeroRobertELee the anime is far from what the manga actually is.. its a complete different story. the problem with the anime is the fact that they catered the anime for the kids with a lot of fillers and after a while they animate whats in the manga, usually when that happens boruto goes viral on social media.
@@hiki5440 personally I can't stand reading manga. Being in black and white with little contrast, it's hard to follow without any color. Comics are just so much more visually appealing yet the stories are dreadfully boring. If manga could just color their work, not have their mangakas work to death to get out issues weekly, I'd actually read manga. But nah, I'll stick with anime. Amazing animation, voice acting, and Music make a huge difference any way. But even as a manga, boruto is objectively bad. It just is. No matter how much people pretend otherwise.
As someone who isn't particularly into anime, I was curious if I'd find anything of personal interest here, either familiar or new. And I gotta say, I am so happy to see some of my childhood favs in Yu Yu Hakusho and Ruroni Kenshin. Also, My Hero and Demon Slayer were fun to watch. When no one was talking. If I could find a hypercut of just the action and NOTHING else, the two shows would have been so much more enjoyable for me. Excited for the next season of Demon Slayer. My Hero... Not so much. Great video!
@@dustpal oh right I forgot about that. I mean, I've tried every season so I'm almost certainly gonna try that one too. I liked the first two quite a bit and then just dropped off from there. It's just the usual anime nonsense that drives me insane. The excessive exposition dumps, the dragging everything out just to extend the season length so one issue takes like 3 episodes to resolve, and so on. Both My Hero and Demon Slayer I found particularly atrocious with these antics. To be honest, if Demon Slayer didn't have the drop dead gorgeous animation (and the boar head character) I absolutely would've hated the show because it was so excessive and so aggressive with this tedious stuff.
Yu Yu Hakusho and Rurouni Kenshin are also some of my childhood favs (Along with Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Saint Seiya). In fact, both YYH and RK are in my TOP4 favorite shonen anime of all times, along with Fullmetal Alchemist and Hunter X Hunter.
my personal ranking for your ranking :D 20.) Noragami: Not a fan of it. It had it cool moments but i found it really boring. 19.) DBZ: Watched it all and enjoyed it as well as it sequels. :) 18.) Claymore: Did not even know there was an anime for it. I only read the manga but enjoyed it. Will watch the anime asap and see if it can live up to the manga. 17.) Black Clover: Currently my most watched and most anticipated anime. I just love Asta and his companions. I am really curious what you have in petto for the higher ranked ones. (I am typing this live when watching your video) 16.) Dororo: Never heard of it. Probably becuase of the old age. Will put it onto my watch list. :) 15.) World Trigger: One of the most liked and disappointing animes for me. It had a great start but it became dull so fast and i really did not like the later arcs at all. Still the first chapters/arcs had quite the impact and were a blast to read/watch. 14.) My Hero Academia: I watched it until the latest episode. It was a blast during the turning points but it had the same issues as Naruto had. Some episodes felt extremely bad and "stretched". Had the feeling of being "forced" to watch the boring episodes for the good ones. 13.) Demon Slayer: I definitely loved all the episodes of Demon Slayer and the movie. I had to read the manga to know what happens next. DS is definitely a must-watch/must read. 12.) Rurono Kenshin: Never heard of it. 11.) Magi: One of my most watched and even repeatedly read mangas. I love the world of Magi alot especially for the arabian settings. 10.) Bleach: I loved the manga but the anime alway felt left-behind and mediocre in comparison though i give the anime one big point: It can really emphasize the big moments. Great soundtracks and great aesthetics in the important fights. Big no-no is the bad art/quality during the filler episodes. 9.) Yu Yu Hakusho: I know you've mentioned it alot in alot of your videos. However, i never watched it and cannot vote neither for nor against it. 8.) Naruto: One of my childhood anime. I loved it and although i hated the bad filler episodes i really liked the main storyline. After having completed the main story, i rewatched the entire thing though and even enjoyed the fillers while considering them artistic freedom. 7.) Jujutsu Kaisen: Extremely anticipating what this manga will become. Currently the manga is rather short and i dont really know what the manga will develop into. But the anime is a blast to watch because the animations quality is extremely high. 6.) One Piece: One of the animes/mangas is watched and dropped the most times. I had watched One Piece alot but i also dropped out of it alot. I cannot count how many times i watched the 1st episodes because i tried to get "back" into it. However i loved how the power creep developed in the latest Big Mom/Kaido chapters. 5.) JoJo: I watched a few of the episodes and while i definitely liked the style and the so-called "Meme culture" moments. I definitely could not adapt to the weirdness. It is definitely good somehow but definitely not my style. 4.) Gintama: I watched this parody anime a few times and liked how it could be a parody and an original anime at the same time. A blast to watch. :) 3.) FMA: Brotherhood. This brings bad nostalgia. I loved the original FMA anime but the Brotherhood anime excellled the original one. FMA had so much story, so much great animation and story telling. A must-watch!!! 2.) Attack on Titan: I think this anime shaped alot of other animes. But i defnititely did not like it that much. I liked the first few seasons where Titans were the great antagonists. Once the "hidden enemy" was revealed it lost it impact for me and because some weird politics. 1.) Hunter X Hunter: Nothing much to say. Hunter X Hunter was a blast to watch and i rewatched it alot during illnesses and when being on travels. That being said: Where the fuck is Fairy Tail? :D

So basically this just made me want to rewatch world trigger for the 4th time..... Dude it's never enough it's that good. The soundtrack is UNFORGETTABLE. The payoffs are out of this world with hype and keep you guessing, also well worth the wait. All the characters are cool and have unique fighting styles in a system that is fleshed out and easy to understand but hard to master. The slow buildup of season 1 wasn't a down side for me cause I'm open minded, optimistic and had nothing better to do but I ended up getting so hooked that I had to read the manga just to see what happens next. The strategies, the battles, the story, the characters, world building and hype moments are all top notch and I can't praise this show enough. And every time I rewatched it I noticed different details it's so good. If your looking for a choose your own load out type of system with strategy and tactics winning the day I recommend World Trigger!

the comedy is insanely cringe to me i cant bear to continue watching it.
Let the nerd fight begin! Hitting 40 this year, I’ve seen them all, with no filler skipping! Cheers!

I like how you rank the shows here. We have the same observations with shounen shows. You earned my subscription.
I'd put D.Gray-man on the list, very underrated!
Love that you have World Trigger on the list!
Nice! Your list is pretty much in line with mine haha. Hunter X Hunter is my favorite anime. Probably why I enjoy your content so much.
Liked without even starting the video since i know the lists are of high quality (loved that you started with noragami with 2 of the best openings ever)
Hunter Hunter #1? Damn right. A true masterpiece. Still resonates with me today
Man! I've watched everything on the main list but found some interesting Honourable mentions. Thanks.
@@timow6201 its fine. Honestly, there's tons of people on your side of this argument. I'm probably in the minority.

This is one of the best lists I've seen. Need to watch Magi Claymore and Gintama now. I've known they are supposed to be great and been holding off on them for a while but it's time.

Thanks for including World Trigger. Totally underrated..
HxH is my favorite aswell i wish it comes back one day !
I think the next my hero is the war arc, which should have you excited! If not, well, you might be surprised when it comes out.
In fact, both YYH and RK are in my TOP4 favorite shonen anime of all times, along with Fullmetal Alchemist and Hunter X Hunter.
my personal ranking for your ranking :D
20.) Noragami: Not a fan of it. It had it cool moments but i found it really boring.
19.) DBZ: Watched it all and enjoyed it as well as it sequels. :)
18.) Claymore: Did not even know there was an anime for it. I only read the manga but enjoyed it. Will watch the anime asap and see if it can live up to the manga.
17.) Black Clover: Currently my most watched and most anticipated anime. I just love Asta and his companions. I am really curious what you have in petto for the higher ranked ones. (I am typing this live when watching your video)
16.) Dororo: Never heard of it. Probably becuase of the old age. Will put it onto my watch list. :)
15.) World Trigger: One of the most liked and disappointing animes for me.
3.) FMA: Brotherhood.

Don't let Hunter x Hunter's number one spot distract you from the fact that Bungee Gum has the properties of both rubber and gum.
Hunter x Hunter stands above its peers on the back of its spectacular and creative power system, that has infinite possibilities; and with its antagonists. Hisoka is amazing, creepy and scary. Meruem is one of the best villains in any media ever.

I don't think Hellsing is a Shonen anime, I think it's Seinen.
i'd agree with Naija, Hellsing is a gore fest, a bloody hell, and quite dark motives, events and characters, even main ones, not realy for a younger audience
I think Fire Force should definitely be an honorable mention if not on the list the show has a good story and the fights are amazing.
Yeah I’m shocked it’s not on this list because I find it similar to full metal alchemist how the story unfolds
Fire force is top 20 . I don't like the list . And Hunter X hunter is overrated a f . People rewatch it because it's short. I did and I actually ended up disliking the show . It's not as good as people make it seem
