Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer is an IMAX®-shot epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.
The film stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer and Emily Blunt as his wife, biologist and botanist Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer. Oscar® winner Matt Damon portrays General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey, Jr. plays Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.
Academy Award® nominee Florence Pugh plays psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, Benny Safdie plays theoretical physicist Edward Teller, Michael Angarano plays Robert Serber and Josh Hartnett plays pioneering American nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence.
Oppenheimer also stars Oscar® winner Rami Malek and reunites Nolan with eight-time Oscar® nominated actor, writer and filmmaker Kenneth Branagh.
The cast includes Dane DeHaan (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets), Dylan Arnold (Halloween franchise), David Krumholtz (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Matthew Modine (The Dark Knight Rises).
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Christopher Nolan.
Oppenheimer is filmed in a combination of IMAX® 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography including, for the first time ever, sections in IMAX® black and white analogue photography.
Nolan’s films, including Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy, have earned more than $5 billion at the global box office and have been awarded 11 Oscars and 36 nominations, including two Best Picture nominations.

I feel like this is going to be one of those movies that you will always remember not just for how good it is, but for what it means. A total genius Christopher Nolan
people will say "I Wish I could see it for the first time again" and for people who don't see it in Imax "I wish I saw it in Imax"
Meh, his movies are becoming parodies of his style. Tenet was unbearable.
@@_blank-_ i disagree. tenet was awesome.

This may finally give him a well deserved Oscar.
No gynxs... Hoffentlich 😅
im calling best actor for cillian and best picture - maybe best score, but we'll see i guess
New academy rules might affect this movie.
Why do people give af about these awards
No academy award can compare or rate Nolan movies
“You’re the man that gave them the power to destroy themselves” GOOSEBUMPS EVERY TIME
"...and the world is not prepared."
I look forward to the “I have become death destroyer of worlds”
A ridiculous statement. Nukes won't destroy humanity.
As an aspiring filmmaker, this movie right here is checking off all the boxes to be a movie that should be shown in all forms of film education🙏
It’s a movie on a historical event so yeah
Well, I’m very glad a random “aspiring filmmaker” approves of this film’s educational capacity.
As Abn inspiring piece of shit, your comment puts me in the right direction
Going to be rated R 💀
As an aspiring human nobody cares if you’re a filmmaker
Whether one believes in coincidence or not, it's incredibly interesting that this is being released at this time on the planet. It's even more exciting with Nolan bringing it to us. I think the world's reaction to the film will be equally, if not more, intriguing than how they filmed it.
I feel Nolan consciously brings these topics to the forefront. In Tenet the algorithm was the baddie, as in real life.
this is what i've been thinking about lately. interesting coincidence that its coming at the same time we're thinking about the possibility existential risk from AI, but I believe this movie's going to impact how we all think about it.
I’ll be interested in how Russians respond.
they missed a great opportunity with the release date though. Realesa date is july 21th, but the trinity test was on July 16th. They were so close lol
What does "at this time" even mean?
We are about to watch one of the greatest cinematographic works in history! What an honor to be able to accompany Christopher Nolan directing this film.
Indeed
I have to agree with a statement like this now. Nolan is legendary, the Big Bang was legendary, and the time we are living in right now, is...
For me, Nolan’s work has single handedly changed my perception of film, storytelling, and even the way I look at life. Every one of his films is a masterpiece in my opinion. Thank you Mr. Nolan, I cannot wait to see this.
“It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do, that defines me.”
The more I see from this film, the more I'm convinced we're about to see one of the greatest films in history. Can't wait to see it

This was what I felt for the Dune. I love Denis Villeneuve and I hope this film will also live up to the hype.
I get chills thinking about Oppenheimer thinking “I am the person who gave the world the power to end itself.”
The thought of giving a loaded gun to a suicide patient… just horrifying
Get over it. Nazi Germany and the Russian both have nuclear programs during the war. America just happen to put two and two together first.
I wish we never invented nukes.
@@charleswest6372 Ironically Nukes have been the only thing that has kept the major powers in peace time for all these years. One does not simply go to war so easily knowing it means there own demise. Mutually assured destruction.

@@chrisandreas3142 it’s both. It’s necessary to have nukes, see the entire Cold War. But it also didn’t stop all war like Oppenheimer naively thought it would. We live in its shadow and by extension, his. Being the known as the man to give the world that power… if I was Opp I would have some regrets too. It’s not so simple
Wow, just when I thought Chris Nolan couldn't possibly outdo himself, he comes out with 'Oppenheimer'. The dedication to authenticity, from shooting on real locations to using IMAX screens with 18K resolution per frame, is simply mind-blowing. This isn't just a movie, it's an experience that promises to transport us right into the heart of the Manhattan Project. I'm thrilled to see Nolan's unique storytelling and cinematic techniques being applied to a story as significant as Oppenheimer's. The cast is insane. Nolan's films have always been a treat for the senses, and 'Oppenheimer' seems to be no exception. Can't wait to experience this masterpiece in a theater.

Cillian is a hell of an actor. The look of his eyes is full of horror almost cast by evil. I've seen this in people including myself when they are terrified or taken by anger. Can't wait to see this.
I swear, Christopher Nolan Better get his goddamn Oscar for best director and best picture otherwise, I'm rioting the academy.
Christopher Nolan is a genius. I can't wait to watch it on the big screen. The world is not ready for this masterpiece
Calm down litle guy
Just like they weren't ready for Tenet, right? Lmao. People need to stop sucking Nolan's dick. He's a great director but I can think of a handful who are miles better. His issue is execution. This is being marketed more like a summer blockbuster rather than a poignant, human story, which is what it should be. It feels too actiony and "mainstream", given the subject matter. And btw, Twin Peaks' nuclear blast scene is far more haunting than anything Nolan could conjure up.
The world is not ready? Lol

"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds"! Oppenheimer knew the monster he created. He felt the proud duty, but he also felt sadness and remorse because he knew his actions had changed the world forever. Robert had a tremendous load on his shoulders with General Groves pushing every step of the way. This Production is not just a thriller, it let's the viewer understand history in the making!
There is no one else in Nolan’s lane. One of the greatest humans to ever get behind a camera.

Christopher Nolan deserves an Oscar man 🔥. For his imagination, his definition of the word 'Beautiful', Escapism etc.... The film freternity must acknowledge this fact.
The making of the Trinity test sequence on the Blu ray is going to be insane
Without even watching the movie, I can already tell that Christopher Nolan has outdone himself in the best way possible. I'm too hyped for it.
Oppenheimer looks awesome . I trust in Christopher Nolan and his vision for the film . The cinematography and scope is so big . This looks like best picture contender 👏👏👏.
Just give him the Oscar already
I can’t believe I’m gonna see this in 15/70 IMAX. All my life I’ve been so in love with movies and finally at 26 years old I’m going to see the pinnacle of cinema.
I hope they put the famous speech "I am become death" in this masterpiece.
I think I heard him say it in one of the trailers already.
Spouse and I rarely go to the theater anymore but we are definitely going to see this in IMAX. The Manhattan Project was a critical and almost inevitable moment in human history. It is when we understood the power within the nucleus of an atom and how to unleash that power.
As a fan of Nolan and history, I am more excited to see this film to experience it either in theaters or in IMAX.

I can't wait for this movie. It will show how the US's decision to get the bomb was catastrophic for the whole world. Cillian Murphy is going to nail Oppenheimer.
The development of nuclear weaponry was inevitable. It was not solely contingent on the US deciding to invest in it.
It was more about their decision to actually use it on civilians...and there is no way for them to justify that
@@agrimtripathi6441the nuclear bomb can be justified. Japan we’re not innocent at all, they were willing to fight until every last Japanese person was dead. The only way to stop them would be either a mainland invasion or the bombs. The mainland invasion would’ve led to much more lives being lost compared to the bombs. The nuclear bombs can be justified pretty easily.
If not the US, anyone would've used it eventually. You dont live in a fairyland and US is not like the disney villain lol.
@@sh_2426 This was the public argument at the time, but it was known internally that Japan was on the verge of surrender and was going to do so before a land invasion was scheduled to begin in November 1945. The choice to use the bomb on civilians was more complicated than this binary decision of "bomb or invasion"; there were a number of other political considerations that went into it, many to do with the USSR.
I absolutely love war movies. Same with Nolan films! So a war movie made by Nolan will be great. Dunkirk is already one of my favorite movies
