For COAL 1 of 3 things will determine max length. 1: distance to the lans, 2: magazine length, or 3: the ability to eject a loaded round. In all of my pistols, #3 is the limiting factor usually. This varies greatly from bullet to bullet, depending on the ogive profile and length, and of course, depending on the specific pistol. Keep up the good work Walter!

There are a lot of people that have voiced a lot of unhappiness about the Lee Manual.
They never read what the load data is. They never learned how to use it.
I like it because it shows all the powders you could use for a bullet. We don’t always get to buy what we want. We have to buy what we find available.
Richard Lee notes to choose a powder near the top of the list for a bullet for best performance. This is often confused as meaning ONLY. If you are shooting handguns at hand gun ranges you really don’t need to worry. Rifle at distance is very difficult to justify the low performing powder.
The ladder testing is really an important part of hand loading. I don’t have a chronograph so I really just look at holes in paper. I have found more often than not a handgun charge works best towards the lower not upper end of the data.
You pointed out that every boolit is different in shape. Thus its COAL is different. I found pushing a dummy into the chamber finds the distance to the lands. You can measure this. This is to long. I have not found the feared bullet jump to be of concern in handgun. There is a limit of to far…
Richard Lee was a believer in consistent Volume being more important than weight of charges. Powder weight can vary do to many environmental factors. We now have scales so accurate that they will have you hand counting pieces of powder.

Doing all the hard work! Lee should reference this video a a valuable tool in using their manual. It takes a while to figure this out. The whole series was a great way to prove all this out!! 👍👍👍👍

Great way to put a bow on it. Took your recommend and just received some 250gn RNFP coated lead bullets from Hoosier Bullets, (Thanks Jesse !). Have been using 200 and 230 in my Ruger Vaquero. Maybe for us newbies do something on why certain calibers have a sweet spot in weight and why so many choices? Nothing like reloading and watching Viejo !

Walter, You have been Meticulous in your assembly of the rounds, also by not interjecting your opinions of those assembling's, strictly By the book. That took a lot of attention to detail, work and a lot of thought. I would like to do a series on gallery loads for rifle practice, there are some cast bullets that deliver the goods, shoot within a inch that I believe every caster could benefit from and get some good rifle practice with a reduced loading for Milsurp Rifles with open sights, 1903's, 1917's and British .303's just to name a few. anyway Good series, - Dave

@@viejo2a As you know, I would love that also, however, it's going to take a long time for me to heal up, it wasn't a simple shoulder surgery, it was a rebuild of everything in there and all the muscle damage throughout my arm and hand that needs to heal up. But, I'm hoping someday I will get back to at least semi-normal. peace dude.
