  • This video gives you assistance, and how to adjust info for the travel limits on, Liftmaster, Chamberlain and Craftsman brand garage door openers with the manual adjustment screw. Including belt drive, chain drive and screw drive models all have the same instruction. For close and open adjustments. This is for the location that your garage door stops. These motors have a safety shut off. If it over heats it will shut down for about 15 min. This video does not include the models that have a program button you hold down to set the travel limits.

    I was wondering why my garage door would reopen after touching the ground. I just need to adjust the down stop limit. Thank you for posting this video!

      @GSOverheadSystemsNovato  9 років тому +1

      Do you have the same type of adjustment shown in this video? Back off on the down limit. The reasons could be, that your gear is wearing out or the chain has loosen in time or sometimes the rain causes the wood on the building to swell slightly or maybe the vibration of the motor caused the setting to change.

    Great help. To make your instruction, you might add (from what I understand), one complete turn of the adjustment screw, equals about 2 inches of travel. In addition, after any adjustment of the travel limit (either way), a safety check must be performed in accordance with the manufacturers instruction, usually using a 2x4 piece of wood on the floor to conduct such a check is all that's needed.

    • @GSOverheadSystemsNovato
      @GSOverheadSystemsNovato  9 років тому

      Yes, thank you for adding that info to the comments. The 2x4 test is to ensure that the opener's safety reverse is operating properly, so as not to crush something in the path of the moving door. Also the force can be adjusted. All new openers must have safety eyes installed, that also prevents such an accident.

    I have an old Sears opener and when I connect the wiring from the wall button it runs the door up, and then immediately back down. When the door is closed I can hear the motor still buzzing, but the door doesn't move and if I push the wall button I get no response. Any idea what could be happening here? Would really appreciate any help

    • @GSOverheadSystemsNovato
      @GSOverheadSystemsNovato  8 років тому +1

      +Fernando Urtusuastegui If you take the motor down and manually move the chain position so that the carriage on the chain is closer to the motor side. Then re install and adjust limits again. Also, sometimes you can just adjust the hockey arm by removing the two bolts and shortening the arm and giving you more adjustment. Re adjust limits. Why did the limits get so far off adjustment? Could be worn gears in the motor or chain could have skipped gears some how if the chain is too loose.

    Somehow my garage opener's travel limits got out of adjustment, was ramming ground and bouncing back up. Adjusted the up and down travel limits as you have shown in your video. Everything worked great during a few test runs. A few hours later, I used it again and it started ramming the ground again. It does not seem to be remembering the travel limit settings. Could the logic board have gone bad? Camberlain 1/2 hp 41A5021-D with a date of 02/99.

    I have a craftsman model # 13953970SRT had problem with the door going back uo after closing. Well I checked the sensors they were Ok, but still went back up. A neighbor came by and adjusted the two white screws on the side if motor for height adjustment. Now the door wont come on at all. Is there anyway to readjust these adjustment screws again. Thanks Ray

    • @GSOverheadSystemsNovato
      @GSOverheadSystemsNovato  8 років тому

      +Raymond Holden Adjusting the screws will change the position of where the door stops. There is no reset for the limits. If the door opener is not responding when you push the button, then that is something else.

    I have a Chamberlain 1/2 HP similar to yours shown on the video, but every time we try to adjust it the door goes down, but then reversed and opens fully again. How do we fix this?

    • @GSOverheadSystemsNovato
      @GSOverheadSystemsNovato  8 років тому

      +Cindy Li If the door goes down to the closed position then reverses after touching the floor. You need to adjust the down limit switch towards the minus position. Go a full turn, then try again. If you turn towards the plus, then door will close more. If the motor is not responding to the adjustment. Could be a damaged limit switch assembly.

    • @GSOverheadSystemsNovato
      @GSOverheadSystemsNovato  9 років тому

      It could be that your unit has a worn out part that is causing the limits to change position. The screw drive has a piece that is called a Rack that runs on the screw itself, and hooks up to the trolley. This wears in time and begins to slip. There is also a Drive Sprocket coupler that joins the motor head to the screw rail that also may fail. Also possibly a bad limit switch assembly or worn gear inside the unit. Hard to say without seeing it. Start with the first two I mentioned. Visually inspect the coupler located on top of the motor head connecting the rail to the motor. Look for cracks or wear. Also inspect the Rack gear. (runs on the screw rail) Run the motor and see if the trolley and Rack gear seem to be slipping or grinding. As the part wears down, it will become more noticeable. Good luck.

    The close travel keeps changing after several opens/closes. When it closes too much, the chain is loose and hanging. Then It will adjust the next time I open/close it. Sometimes it will have a small gap at bottom. I tried adjusting the down travel, but then travel down changes...what can I do??

      Did you get it solved. If not, one thing is to check the safety cameras. If you have a sectional door and the cameras are strapped onto the track, sometimes the track moves slightly as the door travels up or down causing the camera to go off alignment. If it is Chamberlain, Liftmaster the lights will blink and click 10 times indicating that it is the safety cameras causing the issue (On many of there models). Also leaves or debris hanging on the bottom panel will interfere with the safety camera. Also there is a force adjustment that will cause door to reverse but first see for the amount of times the light blink.

      Some of the older units had a reset button. I do not think yours does. The unit has a reset. If it overheats it shuts down for about 20 min. until it cools off.

    I have a craftsman 1/2 hp that It will open and ram the protection bolt (near the engine) and the protection bolt near bottom. It won't open at all unless we hold the wall garage door opener. I have been adjusting the travel limits but it doesn't seem to change anything. It starts at the open position and will close to far to the point that it is pushing the rail up for a second. Then it will go all the way back to the bolt at the top where it will stop.
    I have changed all of power setting to the lowest setting in order to protect the garage door.
    Is there something wrong with my used opener. Mine seems to want me to adjust the top and the bottom at the same time. Is that a bad idea

      Is it a belt or chain drive? Check to see if the chain or belt needs to be adjusted. If it is loose it can jump a gear and change the limit setting. After adjusting the limit, run the motor a full cycle. Also, it may be the gear inside the motor is wearing down and changing your settings. How old is the motor?
