You don't have to worry about magic's self-harm if you just alternate between fire and lightning. With as powerful as magic is, even if the enemy is resistant to one of them, it's still going to deal decent damage, and the opposite will still melt them regardless. That way you can ignore the Link of Fire and Sky, and skip straight the Storm Ring, which amplifies your elemental damage in exchange for increasing the self-harm. So long as you keep alternating, you'll never hurt yourself, and you can laugh maniacally as spells that previously did very little damage now obliterate everything foolish enough to cross you.
This this THIS. I ended up not bothering with most of the spells because I had so much fun alternating the lightning and flame machine guns. The only thing preventing me from doing another magic run is how much I absolutely despise getting to Fire and Sky, which yea isn't required for a magic run, but c'mon.
@@DraconisLeonidas maybe I just have a higher tolerance for those disappearing platforms because I've played nearly every Megaman game, but I actually rather like the Pitchwoods, I think it's fun.
@@wunnup3229 Oh I definitely think it's more of a me problem than a game problem, necessarily. I think part of it was simply that it felt so much more punishing than anything else in the game. There's not much if any room for mistakes, as opposed to fighting enemies or even other platforming in the game. I got really frustrated with it. If I do another magic run, I'll probably attempt to get there again, but hard to say.
If I'm remembering correctly, using dark magic drops your defense, which is the drawback for the low cost and good damage. That might be why you had trouble with Carsejaw.
Probably the reason then. Because he was stabbing down and it just dropped me every time. That attack might be one of the hardest to dodge for me honestly.
I've got a challenge idea. Beat the game using only items bought from one faction to deal damage and only wearing armor from that faction. I'm curious which faction would be easiest with these restrictions. If a faction is unavailable at the start you must kill as few bosses to reach that faction using items closest related to that faction (such as magic for the mage faction and daggers for the poison faction).
My first ever run in SnS was a magic build and it was incredibly powerful late game, but early on due to limited magic replenish items it was rather painful, and the whole debuff from using dark magic is a non-issue tbh as i had it stacked up pretty high one time and got hit and didn't die from it.
Have you considered doing a chakram run in Outward? If that is even possible, I saw them in a merchants inventory and since I started playing because of your bow run, I have been curious to see how that would look like.
Yes indeed I have. Not sure how you would go about it becuase the power is really good. But their mana cost is high as well. Might be a future run we do.
I always watch your salt and sanctuary videos. Have you played a game called afterimage? It's a similar non linear game. Everything is hand drawn and it has a skill tree with different weapon types and magic. It's very atmosperic. I really enjoyed it
I have not, but it does indeed look pretty good. I used to stay away from 2D games but now they often feel more mehcanically sound that anything else. Might give it a shot.
I have been enjoying your S&S runs for sure. But any chance there will be more Outward challenges? Or did you already do everything that you can challenge wise? I get that the game is much MUCH longer than S&S so it would take longer but idk I'm just curious since that's how I found you originally and enjoyed those just as much.
Yes I do plan on doing outward. To somewhat briefly explain the my idea, S&S is very very fast to finish. This allows me to test out the challenge run style of editing, creating, and playing since I was sticking to guides before in the past. I have been working on the magic only run while messing with S&S so that should be done hopefully soon. I think starting 2025 it should be far easier for me to create Outward chellenge runs knowing what I do now. So we can really dive into them. Thats the plan anyway and hey I am glad you enjoy the content.
So steam is the by far the best becuase it is the only platform that has enhanced edition. You can choose to play classic as well, btu enhanced has major additions and fixes that improve pratically the entire experience. My brother 100% td it on the switch I think. Since its an easy game to do many runs on you can easily play it on the go.
im sad the enhanced update has been pc only for a year minimum now w zero word on possible consoles update given they have recently done updates to salt and sacrifice one can hope we get enhanced patch but at this point sadly looks like its not happening

The recent update buffed the Fire+Sky creed to be comparable to the Betrayers for magic builds, which is nice.

One new video and every time jokes land just so well :D
Even learned to fly in the end, true mage indeed

Heck yeah
literally just finished another run and this is the first thing I see on yt, good to see you m8
It's nice seeing Salt and Sanctuary again. It's one of my favorite games
I’m on a mage playthrough. Good tips here. Thanks for the run!
The Vexing Brats under the Village of Smiles are one of the most aptly-named video game enemies.
Just waiting for the outward vid 🔥
She is in the works!
That lightning ball spell should have an epilepsy warning @~@

The ragged set is a callback/easter egg referring to The Dishwasher and Vampire Smile. Two more awesome games by SKA Studios. 😊

@SheenShots Awesome thank you!
YO, i'm first? Heck yeah
Remember when you 1v1'd the backshots in a speedrun?
Indeed, Backlogs is a fnatastic creator. I may actually make a video about that run if I ever get around to it.
wewwhat about the sprite spells?
I give to you my friend, the holy prayers only run:

Me.......still waiting for Remnant 2 content and couldn't care less about this other stuff.
I have a class ranking half way done, but its not easy to work on with several other projects I am in the middle of.
