Years ago, I had a BiL who drove race cars. We went to a race of his, he was a lap ahead of everyone else. He ran out of gas halfway through the last lap, and everyone passed him twice as he was pushing his car towards the finish line. Another BiL was responsible for filling the gas tank, and didn’t fill it all the way. He lost a $10,000 purse (this was in the ‘70s, so that was a lot of money)

In elementary school, the gym teacher took a vote on whether we should play kickball or capture the flag. She said, "By a show of hands, who wants to play . . ." I was one of five kids who voted kickball. When she asked about capture the flag, the rest of the class started cheering thinking they won. She said, "Capture the flag, you lost, because I asked for a show of hands." That day, we ended up playing kickball.

It may not be a case of "too early" but last summers womens olympic cycling had a pretty interesting case...
Right at the begin of the race 3 ladies took a chance and got way in front of the peleton. They managed to create a really big gap between them and the field. For most of the race these 3 were way ahead of eversybody. But when the team managers and racers in the field realized that they could actualy win if the field wouldn't catch them, the field started to go faster. The LAdies in the front tried their best, but 2 of the 3 ladies of the initial attack couldn't manage to stay in front and got caught by the field.
After that, a Racer from the netherlands (one of the major favorites for the win before the race) attacked and managed a little gap to the field. When she came across the finishing line, she celebrated "her victory". Remember that only 2 of the 3 initial leaders got caught? Exactely, the austrian mathematician Anna Kiesenhofer went over the finishing line way before the lady from the netherlands. So Anna raced the race of her life and won the gold medal, and the actual favorite was acting a little pissed of towards her. (and changed her story a little from "i thaught we caught everybody to i just celebrated silver")
Kiesenhofer is a real mathematician, she taught at a swiss university for years.

    • @AnnaMorimoto
      @AnnaMorimoto 2 роки тому +20

Hmm? Let's see if I understand correctly.
3 women had the lead in the Olympic bicycle race. 2 of the 3 women lost their initial lead. The remaining 1 woman(Anna Kiesenhofer), who happened to be a mathematician, kept her lead and won 1st place. A 4th woman from Netherlands, who was expected to do well before the race, sped up after seeing the lead the 3 women initially had, and came in 2nd place.
The 1st place mathematician had finished long before the 2nd place woman from the Netherlands did, so the 2nd place winner wrongfully assumed she had won 1st place, and "celebrated too early". Later on, she realized she finished 2nd and was too embarassed to admit she had assumed wrong and celebrated too early. Instead, she said that she had been celebrating coming in 2nd place and winning the silver medal.
      How did I do?

It crossed the goal line and into the goal, unless my eyes are deceiving me, and even though he knocked it out before it hit the net, it should still be considered a goal, I thought. Thank you for asking! I came to the comments for the same reason. I’m wondering if I either was seeing things when I thought it crossed the goal line, or that they are playing by rules I don’t understand. Or if it was just a misunderstanding by the video montage creator/s, as we don’t have enough footage or sound to know if either was ruled a goal. Of course, if the first one did not count, due to a penalty, the second wouldn’t either, because the whistle would’ve been blown.
Edit: saw 1st response after posting: Good eye! I totally thought it hit the net and passed the line. But that makes sense hitting the post, as it did have quite a bounce! Optical illusion. Thanks for noticing!

The ball hit the side post. It never crossed the goal line. I had to watch it a couple of times. There is definitely an optical illusion because of this camera's angle.

August of 2020 was awful. I got really sick, got covid tested, I was put in the hospital that night, day 2 in the hospital my Covid test came back negative. I was hospitalized for 9 days. Went to get Covid tested after I got out just to make sure…and of course it came back positive. My doctor was like oh my goodness she just can’t catch a break. I was in a medically induced coma for the first 4 days. Died once, and they got me back. They really wanted to put me in icu, but all the beds were full. 2020 was living hell.

As an American that New Year's 2020 one cuts deep. I spent New Year's Eve 2019 into 2020 at a 5-star castle in Ireland. We're talking the epitome of European fairytale holiday. Sipped Champagne on the courtyard of the castle, turrets in the background behind me watching fireworks over the lake in front of me. Handshakes and hugs all around! And then... had to quarantine after getting back to the United States just as everything started to change. The pictures and videos I'd taken just weeks prior were of an entirely different world! And I couldn't help but look back at us celebrating the start of 2020 and think, "We were clueless." Also, "Is it 2021 yet?" which has turned into "Is it 2030 yet?"

omg that cup stacking thing, my son was obsessed with that like about 7 years ago, so much that i had to take him to a competition once and i never understood what all the fuss was about 🤣 oh god these sports games remind me of his hockey days when i was pregnant with my last one, i very often had to get out of the arena during a game because it was too stressful i was sooooo into it, that year their team was the best and they won the series (pee wees), i dont think i ever screamed this loud but when i saw a kid from the other team cry my mom heart broke 💔 we dont think about it but there's a lot of pressure on these kids, my son had bad anxiety at one point, now hes 20 and hes fine ☺

Years back, I celebrated getting my first "yes" asking out a girl to a Valentines date. I really thought she was into me.
I celebrated before the officiating the relationship and some other guy won her over, I got friendzoned.
Don't get cocky and celebrate; celebrate after you've successfully royaly flushed the house, check mated, conquered the person or crossed the finish line. 2nd place is more determined to win and they're behind slipstreaming your success waiting for you to let your guard down before victory.
Also always assume that your rival is directly on your 6.

I watch horse racing and occasionally you'll see a jockey stop riding too soon and lose a race and I've also seen where a jockey came around the turn and gunned his horse toward the line, but there was another lap to go, I think you can get fined and suspended for a while for doing things like that, at the very least, you get fired and lose the mount. Gotta keep your head in the game

I door dash on the side for a little extra money, and I HATE when people try to scam door dash saying they didn’t get their food. It literally puts a mark against the driver and they can get their account suspended or even banned while trying to prove that they did in fact deliver the food. Some people rely on door dashing for all of their income. Cheap a-holes are messing with other’s livelihoods just for a free meal.

You might get a crazy one that will come ask why you lied. There are videos out of them doing that to customers who have done just this.
