There are always pros and cons no matter where we live. Life is short to do the things we don't love doing but life is very precious. We came to this world barehanded and we go back with nothing. No matter how much we make, it will never be enough. Be mindful and be happy. Peace out from a genocide survivor under Khmer Rouge in the 70s!

Thank you for sharing this story..
Yes, the monthly income requirement for Portugal is quite low but you also need to prove a certain amount in savings. Many want to retire abroad so they can actually create savings. Not everyone is getting 2-3000 for social security as some countries seem to think all Americans are wealthy.
So true a lot of these countries want you to have a savings with load of money plus your pension. Does not make sense as I am trying to escape the USA to save money in the bank lol. Mauritius sounds the best to me as all they ask is prove of your pension.
Portugal is not as cheap as many youtube videos make out - It all depends where you come from I guess. Certainly, eating out is generally less expensive than the UK....but I'm horrified by the cost of many groceries and services.
we have chosen Cyprus it's got a lot of pluses
average social security in usa is closer to 1200 to 1500
Early retirement is always the best. I love living my best life after retiring early. I was 25 when I started investing for early retirement. I saved half of my income and put it in cheap index funds. -ROCHELLE DUNGCA SCHREIBER helped me a lot with that. Now I travel the world, do what I love and have fun with my family.
For Philippines one now needs to be 50 years or older - Deposit is not $50k USD; but only $20K USD or only $10k if have pension - other main option is buying a condo worth at least USD 50k - are a few other options for ex-military or those with health issues - The annual fee is $ 360 USD. I have been on this retirement program for over 10 years and live in Manila. Oh and no tax on foreign income!
BTW, the income requirement for the jubilado visa in Ecuador is $1,350 per month as of the beginning of this year.
I think if one buys a property worth 45k, then the amount is much lower.
Ecuador's Retirement Visa now requires a minimum monthly income of $1350 not $800.
Thailand also offers the Elite visa (5 or 20 years) as an additional option.
Great video thank you
Well I found the best place on earth and am moving there next month. Taxes are low, nature is breathtaking, lots of ski slopes, amazing food & culture, etc... Where is it you ask??? ANDORRA !! I speak French and do not care they don't have an airport or train. I have a car, they have a great medical system, amazing schools for those who have kids. 2 hours from Barcelona or Toulouse. Properties are half of the price in France. I am going to buy a house in the mountains. Residency permits are 4 types depending on what you plan to do. Citizenship takes 20 years but you have to give your current one up which I won't do. I'll keep you posted :)

OK, if you like parrot fish .
Yes- Portugal looks and can be a great country to retire- However: in order to receive all the benefits ( especially health care and taxation) of moving there as an ex- pat one would be well advised to apply for citizenship after living there for 5 years. The biggest “ issue” that can be daunting- is that in order to become a naturalized citizen a person must read, write , and speak Portuguese at what is called A2 level, If a person does not already meet this requirement, and especially if they are not fluent in a Latin/Romance ( Spanish, France, Italian etc.) in order to facilitate the learning of Portuguese process and or does not have an innate ability to learn foreign languages easily, learning Portuguese may possibly become an “issue” to meet the A2 requirement. There is no “ exception” to the A2 language requirement to become a citizen.
Bon Chance!
As of late Portugal has become too expensive to live in, plus new laws regarding taxes will get deep into retirees and peoples pockets, crazy taxes, rents are threw the roof, real estate getting sky high, how the heck are the locals dealing with this high cost of living now, because high cost locals seem getting fed up with foreigners living there now, truly crazy!! i remember the old Portugal!!

Philippines is a great country for retirees: low cost of living compared to EU countries, hospitable people, 90% can speak English. Lots of restaurants for all nationalities.

In the Philippines both Catholics and Muslim are living in harmony. They treat one another as brother and sisters even though with different culture, beliefs and traditons. I am an Aussie and have lived as a retiree in the Philippines for over 10 years - my base is Manila but I often travel to various Islands for the more provincial laid- back experience - I have never had any problems with safety.
Indonesia, same as Malaysia, recently changed the retirement visa requirements. It used to be well within my budget and it wasn't previously dependent on already drawing a pension from your home' country. When I start receiving my pension, I wont have a hope of meeting the requirements, which is so heartbreaking, as I have spent many happy years there and I've invested plenty of money into the Indo' economy over the years. I could easily live there on my actual but low pension' income.
Consider Panama, or Ecuador--each of those countries has low monthly income requirements. And almost certainly there are other countries around the world in the same category ( I just don't know which off the top of my head.) So
don't give up--keep up your dream of retiring abroad on lower income (I have spent many, many hours researching countries availability with only Social
Security income!!!)

True. And Dubai is place for wealthy people not for any middle class joe.

@@JulietW not to mention the sexist culture. It's pretty sad they are trying to copy the West but all they have accomplished is build skyscrapers to outdo NYC and adopt the materialistic mindset. Pretty much the same for all Middle Eastern countries. No thank you.
@@robp9746 true but only Dubai seems to draw good reviews which is completely dumb. But you are talking about the middle east as a whole, there are many counties that are much more open minded and forward thinking than UEA. Lebanon is one.

I’m thinking stress free. Doubt I’ll need super fancy health care if I lead a stress free life. I’m liking Italy, Greece, Serbia and Ireland so far…
I am thinking the same way.
Cambodia has the easiest visa in SE Asia and it's cheap as dirt and they accept usd pretty much everywhere. People are friendly, rent is super cheap for nice sized & we'll equipped apartments. Food isn't the best, infrastructure is on park with the Philippines.
Seriously , most retirees that are watching UA-cam are looking for affordable places. Ecuador, exico, and country’s as such.

Spain also had a non-lucrative visa for those with proof of financial means. Has that changed?
Spain still has a non-lucrative visa program. Many people retire there.

I decided two years ago to find lawyers to go for dual Italian citizenship. They are now on the verge of translating all the non-Italian documents for my case. Don't know when it will happen but I am about 6 months out from the 2 years give or take. Although I have a lot of money in the bank, my regular Soc. Sec. is too low for Italy. They want to see PENSIONS, not income from investments. People get different answers about this, too! So glad I opted to spend the money on lawyers!

Colombia has the advantage of a selection of preferable climates, but the food, with the huge Italian influence, is unarguably better in Argentina. The climate in Mendoza, while nothing like the climate in Popayan (Colombia) is still very acceptable.
@Lawrence Wright am sorry to hear about your misfortune but Mendoza is a beautiful spot and it is very affordable and a more slower lifestyle than Buenos Aires not a bad choice at all.
Washington DC, LOL what a stench that place is with it's corrupt politicians. It also has crappy winters, No thanks to anything USA.

People overlook healthcare. The Portuguese health service is bad, mainly due to its inability to attract doctors. Their private healthcare system is expensive. Their private health insurance is expensive (at least to a British person) and does not cover everything. Over the counter medicines (and hygiene products generally) are shockingly expensive.Their ageing population is largely left to rot. The passivity of the Portuguese people in the face of such cynical neglect is frankly surprising. None of this shows any signs of changing soon.

I love Italy and the French Riviera because of great food! Food is not great here in the Philippines! We suffer from lack of seafood and good ingredients! I envy the seafood markets of our neighbors like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand!
No any landlocked country? Not everybody are fun of beaches.
Most countries in the video offer great quality of life - far better than the USA. I have lived in some of these already. I would NOT recommend the Philippines however. Thailand is where I currently live and would recommend it, but SE Asia is not for everyone.
Educate me some more on why the Phillipines is not acceptable compared to Thailand. Is it because of higher crime rate or poor infrastructure? Can you elaborate some more on your perspective? We all want more information and learn from other's knowledge and experience. I'm not critical of your view point but any information will be helpful for comparison and evaluation.
Why you would not recommend Phillipines?
It all depends on what you call quality of life. During the manufactured health crisis of 2020-2022, both Thailand and the Philippines was imprisoning people who refused to comply with the shot. They prevented travel, none of this speaks to quality of life.
Western turkey is the best place to retire-- super cheap, great healthcare system

With my $1111 retirement paycheck once I got retired several years ago I moved to Russia looking for a cheaper place to retire.
