I’ve owned an 032 AV since 78. Still using it, found someone much better than me at keeping it in great running shape. Literally only needed worked on 2 times in the past 10 years, not bad for a 45 year old saw!!
We also own a 032 AV with the "Made in West Germany" print. I am looking for a video that shows how to change the fuel lines. One line collapsed and chokes fuel getting to the carb. If I spray fuel directly into the carb, it runs and sounds great, but chokes out after a few seconds. It is my "go to" saw for big limbs already on the ground. I recently purchased a magnet on wheels to help me find even the smallest metal parts I am constantly dropping on the ground. Harbor Freight has these rolling magnets for a great price and I honestly recommend them. I found even the smallest parts I dropped into four inches of grass. Also, you're not giving yourself much room to work! Thanks for posting this great video.
That is the best breakdown and rebuild of those old Stihl chainsaws. We also have an old 032AV and on the side it reads "Made in Germany" in an old font. After I changed out the old sprocket, I cleaned the carb real good but I'm waiting on a carb rebuild kit. But now the automatic oiler isn't working. I made sure the pin from the sprocket to the oiler was in place, but still no oil. I'll change out the old oil filter and check to see the old hose isn't crimped. But the chainsaw still runs great after 40 plus years. And this Stihl is easy to work on in the field or on the bench. Thanks for explaining some about the chain and the bar pitch. They don't make the chains for this old bar anymore so now I have to have the chain cut at a local shop. I cut a lot of downed trees with this saw including four fully grown locust trees and a fully mature cedar that I cut in half and made a yard bench out of. Subscribed and Thumbs up. You deserve a good work bench and a cushioned chair to sit on Coach. And a magnetic cup to hold the screws.
Good stuff, I recently acquired a 032 in much worse state than that. But main issues I've seen so far are pretty much the same. Clogged with carbon to point where touches at tdc, exhaust port 90% blocked, rings were stuck to scored piston and the throttle is stuck. Waiting on new piston rings and av mounts before start reasonably, I'll bet my throttle has done same as yours, not got as far as the minor details yet 👍
Great Video Tutorial Ryan. I've had my first generation 032 electronic ignition since 1986. Problem: The starter pull will not budge except when I remove the spark plug then it pulls freely and I can then hear the piston compression stroke. Any suggestions ?
Great video. I just picked up an 032AV in similar condition and your video is very helpful for getting me prepared to work on mine. How did you get the cover of the throttle trigger off? I don’t want to break the plastic cap taking it off. Does it just lift up or are there any pins or clips keeping it in place?
Hi, great tutorial thanks! My old 032av is running rough when I give it full throttle I have no idea what the problem is I took it to a Stijl dealer and they told me the saw had air leaks and wanted to sell me a new saw? I doubt it’s anything too serious as the saw has only been used a few times each year! Replaced the plug and car I still running rough! Any advise would be appreciated haven’t checked coil but spark seems ok? Cheers
Good possibility it leaks. You can pressure test it and replace leaking seals but you are looking at a complete teardown. If you don't do it yourself, the repairs will be pricey. Probably why he tried to sell you a new one.

I’m ass-deep in rebuilding an old 031AV and I just ordered the electronic ignition chip. Few clips on my channel. Just subscribed!

Lovely model!
Nice work picked up one of these sweethearts yesterday, the quality of them old Stihl pistons is far better than the new gear
looser tolerances, less sensitive to bs like this!
That dude has the funest job in the world
Great job Ryan on a cool vintage Stihl.
What a great job and skills. Respect

Hell yeah brother 5 stars, fired my shotgun in the air to this video. Keep 'em coming.
It sure seems more educational when you talk somebody through the video
Had the same Arctic air filter on my 032 AV. it picks up tons of dust and particulate matter. I absolutely had to replace that and rebuild the carb.

you need a decent workbench and I use a magnetic bowl to hold all the screws and small metal parts
