He explains that, by nature, most people believe E=O. This is the belief that the "events" in our lives determine the "outcomes" we experience. Yet people who experience true success add one more letter to this equation and embrace E+R=O. Kent initially learned this concept when he was an at-risk student in middle school and about to be suspended from school. He later learned even more about this concept from Jack Canfield, who originally learned it from one of his mentor Dr. Robert Resnick.
E+R=O stands for "event" plus "RESPONSE" equals "outcome!" Successful people understand that the only thing they can control in life is their response, so they intentionally take 100 percent responsibility for their responses.
