soak the top 2 inches of the boot in warm water which will make the leather more pliable and will allow you to slide the boot over the shifter knob. Then use a hair dryer to shrink the leather around the top of the shifter knob - this will remove all the wrinkles and contract the leather over the top. trim any excess leather and insert the Shift Knob Top Insert.
Another i have a new boot but havent put it on yet comment.. lol.. along with soaking and heat, im gonna try to sand the suede side that gets tucked in to reduce the thickness. Professional upholstery people use a machine that tapers the edges of the leather when doing seems and such. Last attempt is 100% acceptable! Great job!

Thanks. That’s exactly what I ended up doing after the video.
I learned that I will not be trying this myself.

Nice. I need a new inner boot. If you don't need yours let me know. I will buy from you.
had the same result... well done on getting success.
I’m in the process of redoing my interior and will have to replace this boot. Could you have heated it up a little and contoured it?
Yes. In fact, I soaked it in hot water and got it to work. The leather will stretch a lot and it much easier.
i replaced the shifter boot on my mercury capri and wasn't happy with it so i ended up putting the original back on. yours looks pretty good.
Terri Whyte thanks! It sure looks a lot better than it did.
Why can't you just wet the leather to stretch it?
