I would like to point out Edward always says "to get Al's body back" Alphonse says "to get our bodies back" food for thought

Alchemy (錬金術 Renkinjutsu) is, as it is understood in the Fullmetal Alchemist series, the ancient metaphysical science/mystical art of manipulating and altering matter by using natural energy. This act is known as "Transmutation" (錬成 Rensei) and its sequence is usually described as:
Comprehension - Understanding the inherent structure and properties of the atomic or molecular makeup of a particular material to be transmuted, including the flow and balance of potential and kinetic energy within.
Deconstruction - Using energy to break down the physical structure of the identified material into a more malleable state so as to be easily reshaped into a new form.
Reconstruction - Continuing the flow of energy so as to reform the material into a new shape.

Very very cool! This show has some layers. Those creepy dark arm things were surprising 🤣🤣

It's a masterfully written series that incorporates themes and ideas from both western (European and African) alchemy, and the eastern world's equivalent. There are some good videos on yt that dissect it really well.

Some people have already broken down alchemy for you so I'll just add on, the transmutation circles work kind of like computer code, or spells, directing the alchemy power to do a certain thing, or what to breakdown and how to reconstruct it (the form, chemical makeup etc) so most alchemists are kind of limited, that's why you have the flame alchemist, or the freezing alchemist, they focus on perfecting a certain type of transmutation, and refine their own specific 'code'.
    Also FYI these episodes have post-credit scenes- 6, 8, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 36, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46, 48, 49. besides those, these episodes have different than usual ending- 45, 54, 63 and 64.
Most of the post credit stuff is very plot relevant and if you miss them it can be confusing later on.
Love your reaction 😁 it's always great to experience this show with someone new, can't wait to see you react to it once the plot really gets going!
Please pause as much as you want it's amazing listening to you work though theories and break down your understanding of something.
Edit: btw the lightning that you see is the alchemy, or at least the byproduct of the energy used and expended to do alchemy. So idk you don't see the lightning there's no alchemy happening.
Bradley isn't an alchemist just a super badass mf 😎

Hi! Thank you so much for that breakdown and that actually makes sense why some just focus on one specialization. I'll keep an eye out for the end scenes too! I appreciate your kind words and hope to see you on the next reaction vid!!!

FMAB is my all time favorite anime, and while I usually prefer subs, I definitely think dub is the way to go on this one. It was actually this episode that fully sold me on the dub. This show deals with some pretty heavy metaphysical concepts, and I find that the sub translation ends up kind of clunky and missing some of the nuance. In particular, Truth's introduction convinced me that that the dub was the way to go:
"I am called by many names. I am the World. I am the Universe. I'm God. I am Truth. I am All. I am One. And I am also You."
It's been nearly 15 years since I first saw that scene, and it still gives me chills and makes me tear up every time.
I don't want to give any spoilers, but I will say this show has a lot of foreshadowing and themes mirrored through out the series, so it's definitely worth it to pay attention to the details. I often say this show is infinitely re-watchable, because every time I watch it I find something new in the details to nerd out about.
Also, if you want to learn more about the real world alchemy referenced in the show, Max Derrat has a really good series here on YT breaking it down. Though, I would recommend waiting until you finish the show first, as his videos do contain spoilers.

Hi Emily! Thanks for stopping by and dropping some knowledge! It's funny you say that becuase I have already told my better half she's gonna love this and we must watch it together when I'm done (she's anti camera 🤣). Also on episode 3 I asked for other anime suggestions. Cowboy Beebop and a few others were recommend. Any other goodies you know about?

Any sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic. Imagine trying to explain to someone in 1200BC Venice how we watched you watch this anime. try to explin any of these terms without being burned alive.
