no, the multi-shadow clone jutsu isn't standard "ninja magic", its an advanced jutsu that only those with absolutely MASSIVE reserves of chakra(magic energy) can perform. thats why it was in the forbidden scroll, a normal ninja would drain their energy and possibly die from using the jutsu.

Book 1 Appa is pretty slow and he's usually not flying at top speed. When there's no reason to hurry he's usually depicted as moving fairly lazily. Zuko's warship is no slouch it can get up a fair amount of speed. It's not at all like 'trying to follow a chopper with a bicycle', that's a ludicrous comparison. Further, Team Avatar stop a LOT. Zhao is just an a-hole. Zuko isn't considered a traitor by anyone except Zhao, Zhao probably thinks Zuko is a traitor because Aang escaped when he had him since the crew said "he let the Avatar escape" instead of "The Avatar broke himself out and we couldn't stop him". But mainly Zhao is a POS. The problem is while Appa and Aang can go higher because they are airbenders, Katara and Sokka aren't, they can't be above the clouds for too long they wouldn't be able to breathe.
