There use to be a diamond in Gainesville where CSX crossed over the NS mainline. I wish all the old tracks in the industrial area of Gainesville where still there between all the buildings and such.

The GM is a lovely oddball railroad, especially because of those Decapods. Something cool about the line is that all engines that were present at the lines closure in 1959 were all donated and preserved. Not many railroads can claim that kind of distinction, especially one as small as the GM.

I was surprised to happen across this video, I saw you shooting that day next to my house in Belmont. My grandfather and two uncles were employed on the Gainesville Midland. Great video! Thanks!

This is AWESOME to see!! I grew up in Gainesville. When my son was young we became friends with the night crew that ran from Gainesville to Athens. Numerous times we would ride with them from Gainesville to Jefferson, and even all the way to Fowler Junction. My son loved when we would stop along the route to get a drink and snacks at a trackside convenience store or pizza in Jefferson. Back then most units were Spartan cab SD50’s or 40-2’s. Occasionally we got a “wide cab”. Got pictures of him on CSX, UP, BNSF, and NS units over the years. Those were the days! When I was a kid the line was SCL and then Family Lines. They even retained SD40 Gainesville Midland No. 10 in GM paint until CSX was formed.

If you guys are still around or planning to come back to Georgia a good place to watch trains (and one of my favorite) is Marietta Square located along the CSX W&A Subdivision

I enjoyed watching CSX train #L821-26 as it traveled from Gainesville, Georgia to Pendergrass, Georgia before the crew was outlawed. Watching the train switching some of the industries on that part of the CSX Gainesville Midland Subdivision was interesting. Was the Pendergrass, Georgia Civic Center the old Gainesville Midland depot? As the narrator said the presence of the Interstate Heritage Unit at the Gainesville, Georgia Norfolk Southern Yard was a pleasant surprise. Norfolk Southern local P81 was doing a lot of work in the Norfolk Southern are as several mainline trains passed through Gainsville, Georgia. Thank you for this very enjoyable video and for the historical information on the CSX Gainsville Midland Subdivision.

I deliver to Builders FirstSource in Gainesville frequently, which was directly behind the camera in the opening scene. Drive along the sub quite a bit, too, as far as Pendergrass. Pretty territory.

Honestly, since I am someone who plays Train Sim World, I feel like that this line would be a good candidate for a future route DLC. I hope it happens at some point but for now we can only dream

I have never heard of this subdivision, and could really find many videos covering it, so I learned about a new territory thanks to this video. I almost called your bluff about the 2.88% grade at Belmont, surely I would have heard of that. Well I went on Google Earth and measured the track profile and sure enough it's a pretty stiff climb approaching 3%, but only for about a half mile, you were actually on the downhill side by that crossing which is also steep, reminding me a lot of the profile along the Murphy Branch. I also look for Easter Eggs in videos whether intentional or not, did you notice the dumpster at 26:12 was also numbered 8105? Lol

Hey man, thanks so much for watching! Yeah, I hadn’t ever heard of this line myself so when my friends invited me to tag along, I didn’t know what to expect. It’s a neat railroad and not very-well documented. I’m glad I had the opportunity to film the local.
Nah, I never noticed the dumpster! That’s neat!
Thanks again for tuning in and as always, keep making awesome videos.

8800 hp with 2 Huge Rd. SD diesels seems a bit excessive to pull 28 cars. Back in the 1950s we would’ve used to 600 hp switch engines at the price of diesel. I’m surprised that CSX hasn’t gone back to switch engines for some of the short lines.😮

By the way, Ichabod isn’t a graffiti artist he is a vandal and the reason why he doesn’t do social media is he does not want the FBI to catch him and throw him in prison where he would be doing graffiti on the side of his jail cell

Great video. I wouldn't acknowledge anyone who spray paints grafffiti on railroad property. It's a crime & he's hiding from society because he knows it. Would it be OK if he spray painted his stuff on peoples cars. He should get a high paying job where his talent would pay off instead of doing things that's against the law
