I know many hated the water travel from one island to another but personally it was one of my favourite parts of WW. The story line of WW is one of the best of the entire franchise.
Unless I had to dodge seahats or chase down gunships or tackle the korok sidequest, I actually found the sea travel to be pretty relaxing. (But boat combat was still pretty terrible. I just stuck with the boomerang whenever I disturbed a big octo-multiple targets without the wonky boat aiming.)
I absolutely love WW. My favorite part was the sailing and filling the map. I was one of the few who were sad that they nerfed the triforce shard quest.
You did miss some IMPORTANT details in the 'Redead Statue' in the Earth Temple, and ones I think are worth mentioning because they shift the lore of the dungeon CONSIDERABLY. The statue is not, in fact, a Redead. Everyone assumes that because of the earrings matching, but that's the only shared detail. Look closer: it has an enlarged, beak-like nose. It has a gem decoration in its forehead. And it has long hair, pulled up into a topknot. Wasn't there a race in Ocarina of Time with those traits? One that is not visibly present in Wind Waker? It's not a redead. It's a GERUDO, grinning with greed, and you HAVE TO MAKE HER SEE THE LIGHT to pass. It's a reference to Nabooru! Which dungeon was it the Mirror Shield was in in OOT? Which featured tons of light-based puzzles featuring spinning sun emblems? The Spirit Temple. Which was built by the Gerudo. The Earth Temple is likely a rebuilt Spirit Temple, containing a votive of Nabooru's changed ways, and is likely very deeply connected to the Gerudo! As may be the Redeads... in a tragic manner.
*LOVE THIS* I can't unsee it now! It is ABSOLUTELY, unquestionably a Gerudo. Your powers of perception are quite impressive 👍✨ (Oh holy crap, that also explains why there are no Gerudo in the game. . .the re-deads are what remain of them )
Oh wow! This is such an interesting take! The hair and nose on the statue really do scream Gerudo and perhaps Nabooru. Maybe the *crawling position* of the statue doesn't symbolize crawling out of a grave as much as *sneaking like a thief,* referring to Nabooru's attempt to sneak into the Spirit Temple for treasure in OOT, before she saw the holy light and became a sage as you mention.
@Paige Malloy Not to mention that the cries of the Redeads in WW seem to match the pitch and timbre of the Gerudo Swordswomen's cries from OOT: When Ganon returned, he had no mercy for those who betrayed him. He made Redeads out of his rebellious former subjects. He made the followers of Nabooru into something that was wholly wretched but would never die. And I do not think it happened all that long ago, considering just how widely spread Redeads are across the Great Sea. At least, that's what I think.
something the earth temple segment got me thinking about is the relation between the dead and the sun, the redead face becoming a sun and jalhalla being weak to sunlight. it's reminiscent of how in ocarina of time the sun's song was the only thing that could stun redeads and was learned in the kakariko graveyard's royal tomb, not far from the shadow temple.
Undead have historically been weak to sunlight in Zelda. Stalchildren only appear at night, stal enemies appear at night, and then there's sun song and reflecting sunlight to kill undead. It's been a common theme
Not having a N64, but owning a gamecube, wind waker was my first console zelda game. It has a certain spot of nostalgia for me, and I greatly enjoyed this video. Thank you.
@@thezonaiarchitect nothing can beat the feeling of amazement seeing next gen graphics of windwaker. The vibrant colors, upbeat/playful music of outset island, your first zelda game you know you're in for a good adventure. Damn, one of the best feeling ever. Hard to get it nowadays.
@@chadgumban3922 real!!! I got stuck right after the Tower of Gods so I really never beat it, but I remember instead of beating it I'd run around and sail around aimlessly doing tons of random things and just exploring, the entire game is a core memory to me.
4:12 There was a cut volcano that was to be their new home. It had a village along the lower incline of the volcano with a path leading to a cave near the top.
I know that it’s a much less popular game, but lore-wise it would be really interesting to see a video on New Hyrule from Spirit Tracks. Especially since the implication is that it’s at a very high altitude in comparison with old Hyrule. If it weren’t for the flooding to bring up the sea level, it would be a lot like living in Bolivia.
What's REALLY sad and interesting about Volvagia is that in the OOT manga, it's revealed that young Link knew Volvagia as a child. He'd set him free from a vendor selling animals and Volvagia and Link bonded and played together for a while. Then as an adult, Link tried with all his might to bring Volvagia back to his senses after being controlled by Ganondorf. When he couldn't, he had to kill him and as Volvagia died, the dragon was crying.
Well I didn’t need to cry today but here I am. 😭 What a horrible, tragic thing to happen to both of them. It just makes OOT Link’s story so much more devastating.
While people say it isn't canon, I totally accept it as such. It gives the Links in different games much more character, building more of a story for each hero and each iteration of the legend. Either way, I felt so bad for Link in the OoT manga at that part..
To be fair to the encyclopedia, Death Mountain has moved within the series. Or rather, the name has been applied to diffetent peaks. It's been suspected for a long time that the Hyrule in the games has been the island seen off the coast in Zelda 2 where you find the Grand Palace and the Tower of Darunia. This was confirmed by BotW and TotK which clearly shows the land separated from a larger continent with oceans along all other sides. This means that both the volcanic region on the continent and that on the island have both shared the title of Death Mountain. The continental region even has its own Spectacle Rock too. Further to this, what is now called the Eldin region is all volcanic and encircles Zora's Domain so it isn't impossible for the original Death Mountain to become inactive and another peak to erupt into what became known as Dragon Roost. The fact it didn't retain the name Death Mountain does suggest it is a different peak as well.
I have to say, I am a little disappointed that you didn't mention the Gerudo symbolism in the Earth temple. It has a lot of ties to the Spirit temple from OoT and just desert symbolism in general, like the giant mirrors being in the shape of scorpions for example.
I always wondered why the Zora fled to the mountain tops with everyone else. As an aquatic race, you'd think their first thoughts upon realizing that Hyrule was about to be under water would be less "Get to higher ground!" and more "Free real estate!"
*Tl;dr: Rapid and intense changes in environtment are often bad for fish, and probably the Zora as well* As a fishkeeper, I can tell you why. The Zora are obviously fish people, and yes live in water as much as on land, but the thing is that fish are very sensitive to changes in the water, and the Zora may be as well. The reason they might have had to flee to the peak of a volcano, and later evolved into the Rito, could have been that the sudden rise of the water might have changed it's conditions to no longer be good for them. In OoT, Zora's Domain was located in fresh water, and since the Great Sea is an ocean, and oceans are famously salt water, that by itself could already have been the issue (though we do see Zora living in the ocean in MM). But even if it isn't a salt water fresh water issue, a flood of that scale, would likely result in temperature changes, a whole bunch of debris being stirred up, levels of different elements in the water changing (nitrite levels, oxygen levels etc), and potentially intrusive species that could either pose as competition, or even prey on them. The water was probably no longer safe for them to stay in for prolonged periods of time, which is why they wound up spending more and more time on land, until they eventually evolved into the land dwelling Rito.
The water in WW it's toxic, any fish can Live there, inly monsters. Even Ganondorf mentioned that. Ah, and remember: in phantom hourglass and Spirit tracks we can see Zora living in the water: but they become monsters! Between leaving the water and become monster, tge choice was leaving.
@@sarenarterius6217 I have always wondered if what Ganondorf said was true, or if he was trying to heap bitterness onto his judgement of the gods, like "They drowned you and didn't have the decency to add fish." I really think there's fish in this ocean. Because how the hell is anybody making enough food to survive on these rocks? There's exactly one island with any signs of agriculture, and it amounts to one guy cutting grass and a pig that ate all the other pigs.
@@Levacque I think he's telling the true; in PH and ST, where the water it's normal, you can see fish in the water; and in WW, you cannot see any fish. What the people eat? Don't know, maybe sea monsters, but not fish
I think the Earth Temple in _Wind Waker_ might be my favorite “Shadow” Dungeon… even though it’s not branded as such, it is dark and gloomy, and filled with ghosts. the light/dark motif is neat, too.
Did anyone else notice when Zeltik is reading the text overlay from the Tower of the Godd, you can see Link fly into the side of the rising Tower and then fall into the water? Same thing that happened during the first trip to The Forsaken Fortress. Link smacks the side of the building then falls into the water. Ah classic Link
Wind Waker is so special. The sense of adventure is almost unmatched and it flips between "cutesy and fun" and dark and mysterious", with everything in-between. I've tried to list my favourite 3D Zelda games in order and I always get stuck with Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker HD and Breath of the Wild. I just cannot decide. BOTW, I reckon, is the best console game I've ever played. But "best" and "favourite" are two very different things.
The traveling music is very good for invoking a sense of discovery and purpose. It takes away any tedium associated with the time spent sailing by making every new journey feel like the start of a brand new adventure every time.
@@Levacque I agree. However, personally, I love the sailing. Even in the Gamecube version. The sense of adventure is amazing. I've always loved the sea and ended up becoming a sailor, myself.
To be honest, Nintendo would have made The Depths in TotK far better if they had you sailing across a subterranian ocean of Malice. Would have felt like a twisted version of Wind Waker.
I know! I was always thinking, "Uhhh, Nintendo? You switched Makar and Medli's dungeons. You're not gonna put the bird girl in the Wind Temple and the (super adorable) walking-talking plant creature in the Earth Temple? Why not? EXPLAIN TO ME!!!" I'm not exaggerating, that is pretty much what I was thinking while watching my dad play through the game.
I think this was a big miss on Nintendo’s part. I also thought it was silly the zora evolved into Rito when they are already evolutionarily well suited to aquatic environments. I really like the Rito but they could have just been a new race in WW.
@@gee8648 according to the Wiki, “The Zoras evolved over the span of a century into the Rito after the events of the Great Flood because of the unnatural water created by the gods, which was uninhabitable to Zora.” Still kinda silly tho
@@gee8648 beyond the great sea’s water being habitable to mostly only monsters, I’m sure that with such a vast ocean there would be less competition for food/resources in the sky, to be excessively sciencey about it. Not to mention, why would fish irl ever have evolved onto land if they’re also already suited to aquatic environments? Why has any creature ever evolved wings? Things will always evolve to fit different niches.
Can we take a moment to appreciate that these two amazing Zelda UA-camrs work together that often! :) These videos are really special, I can't wait for TOTK related ones when the game's out
Given that both Redeads and Stalfos (presumably, bodies without souls) and Poes (souls without bodies), I wonder if the Earth Temple was originally supposed to be a place where these two could come together. While some spirits can clearly pass on simply by fulfilling some spiritual purpose they couldn't fulfill in life (e.g, Laruto passing on her prayers to Medli), maybe others need to be reunited with a corporeal form to accomplish whatever business they were unable to finish in life. That would explain why the temple seems to venerate the redeads - it could act as a big beacon to any wandering spirits "hey, this is where you can get a body!"
The Earth Temple is by far my favorite dungeon in the game, and one of the better ones in the series in my opinion. I like it's approach to a house of the dead type thing more than the Shadow Temple. An ancient tomb where the dead rest soundly is a whole lot more appealing than a torture chamber.
Wait a minute, "red wrath" (Calamity?), The entrance to the temples being mentioned makes me wonder if we were supposed to travel Hyrule as well at one point, but looking at how Makar and Medali don't understand their temples outside of being a place to pray for the mastersword, what if the temples at one point served another function? I wonder what the ghost ship used to be and why the Gorons, who could reach higher than anyone to the mountaintops would abandon their home, and why the Rito seem to have two guardians, as Valoo could help the Rito but Jabuu could help the Gorons when they are out being merchants, perhaps that gossip fish carries information to merchants at what people may be interested in buying?
I’ve always been creeped out by the Earth Temple dungeon, it was the first one where I felt truly terrified playing a Zelda game. I remember vividly screaming in fear when one of the Redeads shrieked at me, something that I’ve experienced multiple times during and even before entering the dungeon. Guess the creepy atmosphere and the Redead shrieks finally broke me. Strangely enough, the room with the ReDead statue, once lit up, felt like a safe place, away from the darkness and everything that lies within it. That damn statue, though, always served as a grim reminder that even though I felt safe, I was not welcomed in the dungeon. Only the dead belong there…
The Rito are supposed to be descendants of the Zora, but Dragon Roost Island is obviously the upper portion of Death Mountain. So...that might explain why the Gorons are forced to drift the Great Sea aimlessly as merchants.
I could see the possibility that Redeads might have been corpses cursed by the Sheikah to guard the royal family. It would fit the theme of the Shadow Temple, the Sheikah executing the royal family's less desirable tasks. Considering how buried and brutal the Shadow Temple was, I don't see them being above reanimating corpses to suit their purposes
I hope TOTK will have an Earth Temple type of area / dungeon. We've seen that there will be some sort of underground in the game, and I hope it gets expanded on. Imagine having a massive catacomb area with hundreds of skulls surrounding you, similar to catacombs you can visit in Paris / Europe. I also hope that the mirror shield makes a return in TOTK. Assuming weaponry functions the same as in BOTW, I'm not sure how you would get a new one after it breaks. Maybe you can take a common type of shield and bring it to someone to forge it into a mirror shield?
Yknow it's always interesting to see the geography of these dungeons, especially from Hyrule's view and not the great sea. A lot have entrances on the surface but how would it look entering from the bottom of the mountain. Like the room before fighting the boss of the Earth Temple, maybe there was a door at the bottom of the pit that would have led to the sunken Hyrule. That is just me though, obviously it wouldn't matter gameplay wise but story wise, I always wondered how these places would have function logically.
I've also always wondered about the original temple entrances. It's possible they were always accessed by a big pilgrimage up very tall mountains, but it makes more sense for a door to exist in the depths. The other thing I noticed after playing it just recently is that there are a lot of established structures that form secret grottos on the islands. Like, you'll drop into a hole and the interior will be worked stone and the entrances are very tall shafts. That seems to imply that a lot of mountaintop towers were built, and the architecture matches the Tower of the Gods, linking all of these spires together. Maybe they were for beacons? At least one island is clearly the ruins of a collapsed tower, another is a series all in a line. And the structures are scattered around, too. Very interesting.
One theory I had about the Gorons leaving Death Mountain was due to them distrusting Valoo, who is related to Volvagia, and they either fled or were exiled for attempting to slay him
Anyone else notice some interesting connections between Gods' Tower and Stone Tower Temple? Living statues, puzzles involving controlling statues, the overall design of the statuary...
Death mountain in OoT has two peaks. The fire temple is built around them. It makes sense that the two islands are actually the original two volcanic cones.
Isn't it also possible that both peaks are "Death Mt" but the crust shifted moving away from the Magma vent that would flow up adding to the mountain top, like the many islands under the ocean near Hawaii??
I think this games interpretation of the Stalfos are actually Moblin Skeletons. They have the same helmets and their bodies are almost similar. The only downside is the pelvis.
@@RestlessWandererOriginal The Cartoony artstyle is much of what made it such a cool & bold entry. In many ways, WW is well known to be the real blueprint for BotW. The Open Sea concept, the Korok leaf used as the Paraglider. And of course the unique Cel-shading. And it actually had Dungeons. WW was in many ways far more iconic than Breath. It's just that Breath sold way more and is more popular having come at the right time on an innovative console.
9:48 -It is obviouslt a retroactive point that the creators would not have known about when making WW but TotK reveals a second subterranean volcanic peak in the Underground below the Death Mountin area. We also know the Ancient Gerudo were aware of it and mined there. Perhaps Fire Island was our earliest peak at this peak. The unshifting land due to time, geotgermal activity and cataclysmic events caused ot yo submerge and emerge.
It is also possible that the Redead Statues were transformed by magic and since the magic is rooted in the undead in the dungeon you are restoring the statue to its true form. It is quite possible that corrupting a dungeon can change its physical form to some degree.
What if that last island that was cut (jabuun quest thing) was supposed to have Zora’s on it. But the rito was used as an excuse of why the Zoras aren’t in the game, to mask the lack of time.
The Skyview Temple and its neighbor the Ancient Cistern are also both thematically and geographically similar to WW’s Earth Temple (unlike SS’s Earth Temple, confusingly). Also, the TotG to the Temple of Time’s hidden tower from Twilight Princess.
How do you mean "hidden tower?" Like they would be part of the same complex? I love both temples in part for their similarity and I'm wondering what it is you've got cooking.
The Tower of the Gods has now been established retroactively as being a Zonai creation. Nintendo was very smart by designing the Zonai with an Aztec/Mayan aesthetic and making them a highly technological tribe who were worshipped as gods in ancient Hyrule. This means when the Hylians didn't get a reply from the goddesses via the Triforce then they turned to the Gods who have now been established as the Zonai. The Tower of the Gods also has a huge bell which is used to contact the gods, we see another bell used for this purpose at the Temple of Time in TotK. Its technically a retcon as I doubt Nintendo had the Zonai concept fleshed out fully way back then. But they've consistently associated the sky islands and ancient advanced technology with a race that predated the Kingdom of Hyrule and frequently used that Aztec aesthetic along with green or blue energy.
for the earth temple theory, its also fair to say that the redeads statue could have been more of a memorial, or a reminder of the dead before they were entumed and mumified, and the stalfos could have simply been great warriors corupted by gannon's influence... though the botw sheika monks do serve as a good arguing point for the redeads being corrupted by cannon rather than resurrected.
This video's thumbnail immediately made me think of the gritty first person gritty zombie and monster shooting light gun series House of the Dead crossed with Wind Waker. Like Link's Crossbow Training with a horror twist and Wind Waker's distinct cartoony art style. Wind Waker has some freaky creatures that seem like cartoony versions of monsters you might see in that series, as it has much more than just zombies. Now I really want to see what the Magician, my favorite boss from the second game (I heard it is also the final boss of the first but I was never good enough to quite make it there in what little I played) would look like reimagined in Wind Waker style. After all, the Zelda series has no shortage of undead and horrifying monsters, some of which we saw more realistic depictions of on the N64 and were reimagined in Wind Waker. The Redeads were the scariest part of OoT for me, even worse than Dead Hand with that paralyzing scream, and I think in Wind Waker they are actually scarier in their design and animations. Thank goodness I was older by the time WW released and the game used them much more sparingly. If anyone knows of an artist that can draw things in Wind Waker style and does commissions, let me know.
Man, I love watch your videos during lunch and diner! Since I always eat alone, your videos are a great company! I would love to see a video about goron village in adult timeline, and yes, I'm talking about Phantom hourglass and Spirit Tracks, where we can see 2 goron isles - and really, any video about Spirit Tracks would be awesome! As a Zelda fan for 25 years, only now I had the oportunity to play PH and ST, and I love/hate both lol
The giant statue in the earth temple always reminded me of the gerudo's temple in ocarina of time. Also the redead scream sounds like elephants at times lol
_Far_ better than BotW for me. Actual proper dungeons and it sort of invented the blueprint for a more Open world Zelda with the Sea exploration and the Korok leaf for gliding. Actually had a Cool story and even cooler lore and introduced whole races. And look, your weapons don't relentlessly break every 5 minutes! It was simply bags of Fun.
I have been waiting longingly for Wind Waker to be ported to the switch. My hopes have dwindled. Love this video, just makes me want to replay the game
Wind Waker was a game I did enjoy. I 100% it, beat everything, got all the side items, got all the islands marked down (starting at the very top right and going to the very bottom) even got all of the picto photos for statues before unfortunately, my gamecube did a ded. Part of my top 5 for sure, I should get it and go for it again.
@@Levacque I actually had fun since you needed to include a clear photo most of the time, I had fun trying to get angles to make sure a figure was made.
I remember little me going through the game and thinking the redeads looked silly until it screamed at me. That was such a shock for some reason. And then I was mildly afraid of them forever
4:27 I wonder if one of the bits of cut content from Wind Waker was going to be the new home of the Gorons, especially since it's very likely that one of the cut dungeons was recycled as the Goron Mines of Twilight Princess.
HEY! Thank you for making this, this game has been a favorite between me and my brother! Though out of the two of us I am the Lore Whore, it's just, this is one of the original versions that we both have played, it has brought me back
i literally feel so bad for Medli for having to continue praying in the Earth Temple, aka the hime of literal ReDeads, for the rest of the game lol i mean, could you imagine being in her position? you'd be terrified, and she probably was too. but hey, after you beat the game, she literally doesn't need to go there ever again lol. she can just resume her normal life at Dragon Roost, which is what I'm pretty sure is what happens. but yeah, poor Medli. atleast Makar has it easy. the wind temple is probably a second home for him lol
Some footage has darker gamma than the rest of the video. Unless it was intentional, it is most likely a colorspace mismatch involving Rec. 709 and sRGB. Both cover the same amount of colors, so gamma is pretty much the only difference between the two. Footage tends to look look darker or brighter if you switch them up. Not sure how easy it is to deal with in Sony Vegas, which is what i recall you edit with. Correcting this error makes it better for viewers to look at footage that is already dark, like inside the dungeons. All UA-cam videos display as Rec. 709 btw.
I always thought the Rito’s evolutionary jump was sort dumb and backwards. Why would an aquatic people evolve into a avian people in a world filled with water? I’d say it would make more sense that the Gorons or Hylians Evolved wings, rather than the Zora.
Given Nintendo's track record, they'd probably market a Hyrule Warriors game as being a prequel to Wind Waker in which the great flood occurs, only for it to actually be an alternate-timeline where a robot cucumber goes back in time and prevents the flood from ever occurring.
@@narzangrover10 Okay; "track record" may not have been the best choice of words, but the overall point remains valid. Another thing about Dragon roost. If Dragon roost cavern is Dodongo cavern then the name makes sense even without Valu. Because the bossfight in OOT is a big, undead fire dragon, and also dodongos are kinda like flightless rock dragons in a way.
The only thing I was super bummed out about was the Helmaroc King wasn’t apart of the final battle. Have him come back in a way, damaged or flightless but more fitted out, have him dive bomb and the battle starts, maybe phantom ganondorf can be riding it? Use the wind baton as a way to beat it, change the direction of the wind to send it into the surrounding area, maybe destroy Hyrule Castle in the mix so when he wishes to “wash the land clean” it’ll hit different?
Maybe the Earth temple was a sister location of the Shadow temple in OoT. A resting place/prison for the tortured individuals in that era. A place where the darkness is always present, but light can be let in unexpectedly at anytime from the various windows/ceiling shafts and mirrors. Maybe it was a place made with a holy pretext, but also a way to eternally torture the already deceased even after their initial death with all the light and holy energy associated with the temple.
Tears honestly looks so interesting with it's varying Sky structures. I really hope it can match really special and unique areas like the Earth temple here.
@Zeltik I found a secret in botw, if you go to hino at the dueling peaks stable when a blood moon is happening he will start running around the stable chanting "ARISE MONSTERS." It was really creepy when I found it and I want you to maybe just MAYBE do a theory video on it but that's highly unlikely, but anyways great video like always and have a good day 👍
@BowlOSoup6661 I don't think anyone has made a video specifically on the guy but numerous have included him in videos going over things you can find in the game. There's ultimately not much to theorize on that guy due to lack of context or related events. Applying occam's razor he just seems like a lunatic obsessed with the blood moon like how Kilton is obsessed with monsters
Wind Waker is probably the 3rd Best 3D Zelda game, just behind Ocarina & Majoras Mask. It was simply heaps of fun and such a bold & unique entry introducing whole new races and despite having fewer dungeons - at least it had them! And most of them were iconic and fun also. But it's too close between WW & Twilight Princess for 3rd/4th place, so hard to decide lol.
That used to be my ranking MM, WW, OT, but Skyward Sword HD has kicked down WW and OT for me, BotW is tied with OT, could've been higher if it had proper dungeons.
@@grandsome1 I loved Skyward; I'd put that 5th but only because Twilight just seemed longer - but it's really a toss up between WW/TP & SS if I'm honest. Just gave me more fun and actual point to play overall than seeing everything I 'collected' in Breath either shatter to pieces or be consumed. Just not my idea of a Zelda game sorry.
@@netweed09 I ranked BotW high because of the potential, and the atmosphere, the lack of actual dungeon is frustrating, the game felt like Zelda 1 without the good dungeons, if TotK doesn't payoff the new direction I might throw both games down the drain for the missed opportunity. one thing that could add proof to the re-deads once being sheikah is that the sheikah have red eyes. when the re-deads scream (20:41), we see their eyes glow red. this could simply be a stylistic choice, but i think it's a neat detail that validates the possibility of re-deads of the earth temple/WW being an early form to the mummified monks of BOTW ~nya
Holy crap I never put dragon roost island being death mountain together nor that the island were locations from oot that's new info to me that I'd never heard, that's so cool
Am I the only one reminded if the boss for the Fortress of Wind in Minish Cap which was supposed to have been a protector of said Fortress, Gohdan is very simillar
I’ve had a theory ever since my first playthru of WW that Fire Mountain is Death Mountain from Ocarina and Dragon Roost is a different mountain altogether, not included in the overworld map of Hyrule. And that the Rito were always their own species and not zora evolved, that instead of being a descendant in the literal sense, Laruto referred to Medli more like a spiritual successor.
Volvalgia is actually one of the zonai or a sage that decided to swallow his Stone and turned into a evil dragon similar to what Ganon did in tears of the Kingdom.... it is this reason why swallowing a stone was considered forbidden because the last person that did it became an evil dragon that terrorized the people of Hyrule.... it's not related to valoo in any way shape or form... you can clearly see that this Dragon depicts more of the type that are flying in the sky of breath of the wild and tears of the Kingdom as opposed to this overweight dragon from dragon tails that sits on top of of a mountain
While Gohdan not being on the door is fairly obvious, this just made me consider why the Helmaroc King isn't on it either. This is Ganon's original base of operations, so these are bosses he summoned to plague parts of old Hyrule! Kalle Demos to curse the former Kokiri Forest, Gohma for Death Mountain, and the Guardians of the Seal to kill the Sages at their respective Temples. The Helmaroc King would likely be created well after all of them only after he escaped Hyrule and specifically to search for Zelda, so of course Ganon's old Tower wouldn't account for it in the boss rush. He may be the only Great Sea born major boss.
The should have swapped the location of Gale Island and Headstone Island If Headstone Island was about North of Windfall and Windfall being the remains of Kakariko you could make an argument that the Earth Temple is the Shadow Temple with the original Entrance to the Shadow Temple in OoT having been swallowed by the great flood but it's not to be
I would love to see a triple-collab of Zeltik, Monster Maze, and Bandit, either in one long video, or 3 separate videos kind of like they've done here. The topic? Could be Lore, could be best sidequests, not really sure. Alternatively, all 3 of them at once, making a tier list.

Nah, water traveling was fine
*LOVE THIS*
I can't unsee it now! It is ABSOLUTELY, unquestionably a Gerudo.
Your powers of perception are quite impressive 👍✨
(Oh holy crap, that also explains why there are no Gerudo in the game. . .the re-deads are what remain of them )
Never thought about this but i think you're right
@Paige Malloy Not to mention that the cries of the Redeads in WW seem to match the pitch and timbre of the Gerudo Swordswomen's cries from OOT:
When Ganon returned, he had no mercy for those who betrayed him. He made Redeads out of his rebellious former subjects. He made the followers of Nabooru into something that was wholly wretched but would never die.
And I do not think it happened all that long ago, considering just how widely spread Redeads are across the Great Sea.
At least, that's what I think.
@@GuukanKitsune But there were still gerudo in the desert in oot after the timeskip, and the redeads were in the castle. So the gerudo were fine.
I never realized that Ganon's Tower was located in the Gerudo Desert this entire time, but it makes a lot of sense.
something the earth temple segment got me thinking about is the relation between the dead and the sun, the redead face becoming a sun and jalhalla being weak to sunlight. it's reminiscent of how in ocarina of time the sun's song was the only thing that could stun redeads and was learned in the kakariko graveyard's royal tomb, not far from the shadow temple.
Thank you.

Underrated and over hated. Spirit Tracks is adorable and has Zelda as an actual companion.

Sad we don't have any TOTK to look forward to😭
Damn wish I knew about this would totally have gotten a picture with this dashing bandit
Yeah!
Have a great time you guys!
@@sunnystreet4950 I know. As I read it I was like 'YO! What the fuck?'
I loved the manga so much. It's too bad it wasn't cannon.
Almost certainly isn't canon but I remember that story, so sad but good
While people say it isn't canon, I totally accept it as such.
*Tl;dr: Rapid and intense changes in environtment are often bad for fish, and probably the Zora as well*
As a fishkeeper, I can tell you why.

I can't stand the Shadow Temple in OoT, but I love the Earth Temple in Wind Waker.
The sage of Wind, a walking-talking plant
The sage of Earth, a flying bird girl
I always found it sort of ironic.
I know! I was always thinking, "Uhhh, Nintendo? You switched Makar and Medli's dungeons. You're not gonna put the bird girl in the Wind Temple and the (super adorable) walking-talking plant creature in the Earth Temple? Why not? EXPLAIN TO ME!!!"
I'm not exaggerating, that is pretty much what I was thinking while watching my dad play through the game.
I think this was a big miss on Nintendo’s part. I also thought it was silly the zora evolved into Rito when they are already evolutionarily well suited to aquatic environments. I really like the Rito but they could have just been a new race in WW.
@@gee8648 according to the Wiki, “The Zoras evolved over the span of a century into the Rito after the events of the Great Flood because of the unnatural water created by the gods, which was uninhabitable to Zora.”
Still kinda silly tho
@@gee8648 beyond the great sea’s water being habitable to mostly only monsters, I’m sure that with such a vast ocean there would be less competition for food/resources in the sky, to be excessively sciencey about it. Not to mention, why would fish irl ever have evolved onto land if they’re also already suited to aquatic environments? Why has any creature ever evolved wings? Things will always evolve to fit different niches.
@@valhersa29 How is that silly though?
Someone made the amusing comparison in saying the Dragon Roost Cavern music is like ''dodongo's cavern riding yoshi''
Playing Elden Ring music during the Earth Temple bit feels so perfect, got to say! Earth Temple is one of my favorite Zelda dungeons.
Mad props, the editing and music choices is brilliant! Loved it. The Earth Temple is genuinely super interesting, also nice catch on the tombstone!
Hmm. To think that the thing you use to interact with the Gorons the most is the Delivery Bag, which is given to you by the Rito.
Only the dead belong there…
something I'm just now noticing is the "tower of the gods" as a whole eerily mimics BOTW shrines shape wise, just more elongated
The Rito are supposed to be descendants of the Zora, but Dragon Roost Island is obviously the upper portion of Death Mountain. So...that might explain why the Gorons are forced to drift the Great Sea aimlessly as merchants.
How would you guys feel that near your home there is a secret hole/area that has a labyrinth filled with REDEADS AND DARKNUTS
It's called "Down Town Los Angeles". No joke.
Designing a game this beautiful takes serious amounts of talent, I will always love the Wind Waker
This video makes me so happy. Thank you both for creating this video to explain the deeper lore!!
Haven’t played wind waker but still gonna watch this video since all your videos are absolutely awesome
It's actually a very good iteration except the cartoony artstyle
@@RestlessWandererOriginal The Cartoony artstyle is much of what made it such a cool & bold entry. In many ways, WW is well known to be the real blueprint for BotW. The Open Sea concept, the Korok leaf used as the Paraglider. And of course the unique Cel-shading. And it actually had Dungeons. WW was in many ways far more iconic than Breath. It's just that Breath sold way more and is more popular having come at the right time on an innovative console.
@@netweed09 I share your sentiment
@@RestlessWandererOriginal The grudge bruh
Hearing the Elden Ring music really makes me want to see you tackle the lore of that game, I think it'd totally be up your alley

I remember the original commercial for WW, always thought it odd that the mysterious girl pronounced Hyrule as “hy-RULE” instead of HY-rule.

Medli would be fine. After Ganon's defeat, the temple would be clear anyway.
709 btw.
Are you working on part 3 of the classic enemies reimagine series? If so, when do you think it will release?
I always thought the Rito’s evolutionary jump was sort dumb and backwards. Why would an aquatic people evolve into a avian people in a world filled with water? I’d say it would make more sense that the Gorons or Hylians Evolved wings, rather than the Zora.
I would love a prequel to windwaker in which the great flood occurs, we could uncover so much interesting lore and backstory of the game.

The only thing I was super bummed out about was the
Helmaroc King wasn’t apart of the final battle.

Breath, well lol - no dungeons, no luck with me I'm afraid. I _did_ love the Zora region but I actually enjoyed Spirit Tracks on the whole more than it.
I haven't played the DS title yet except a Link Between worlds which is probably the most enjoyable 2D Zelda I've played yet. I never know where to put TP, maybe I had too high expectations for it, but I felt disappointed when I played it, it's not a bad game but it felt like a step backwards compared to WW. Overall your rankings are pretty good. And yeah, I totally get how hard it's to decide who ranks number 4 or 5, too many good games. lol
@@grandsome1 Yea, actual factual lore like 12:30 only re-inforces why Wind Waker is so amazing. I mean; the Tower _was_ even the Original sort of 'Shrine' like test for Link by the higher Good Powers and look how splendid it was: it's still fresh in my memory whereas the 100+ shrines are just this ''mess of blue neon strips with giant balls or a Guardian and a Monk at the end'' in my mind. None of them stand out. Agree with TP; Good but also a bit lacking.
I’m a simple man. I see zeltik, I click.
one thing that could add proof to the re-deads once being sheikah is that the sheikah have red eyes. when the re-deads scream (20:41), we see their eyes glow red. this could simply be a stylistic choice, but i think it's a neat detail that validates the possibility of re-deads of the earth temple/WW being an early form to the mummified monks of BOTW ~nya
Holy crap I never put dragon roost island being death mountain together nor that the island were locations from oot that's new info to me that I'd never heard, that's so cool
The shrine music in the Gohdan part was a nice touch
Am I the only one reminded if the boss for the Fortress of Wind in Minish Cap which was supposed to have been a protector of said Fortress, Gohdan is very simillar
I’ve had a theory ever since my first playthru of WW that Fire Mountain is Death Mountain from Ocarina and Dragon Roost is a different mountain altogether, not included in the overworld map of Hyrule. And that the Rito were always their own species and not zora evolved, that instead of being a descendant in the literal sense, Laruto referred to Medli more like a spiritual successor.
Laruto very specifically referred to Medli as being of her bloodline, I believe. Laruto was Medli's biological ancestor, not spiritual.
@@literallyanangrymoose7717 that's wind waker's only real flaw. The zoras' evolution into the Rito is dumb as hell.
it’s wild watching through this just how many ideas and themes botw took from ww
I love my favorite creators collaborating. I hope to see all of y’all in a group picture one day
I love how Hyrule was flooded and the Fish people are like nah we’re birds now
Volvalgia is actually one of the zonai or a sage that decided to swallow his Stone and turned into a evil dragon similar to what Ganon did in tears of the Kingdom.... it is this reason why swallowing a stone was considered forbidden because the last person that did it became an evil dragon that terrorized the people of Hyrule.... it's not related to valoo in any way shape or form... you can clearly see that this Dragon depicts more of the type that are flying in the sky of breath of the wild and tears of the Kingdom as opposed to this overweight dragon from dragon tails that sits on top of of a mountain
It might be one of the dark skeletons in the Depths.
Earth temple = the past and dead
Wind temple = new life and future
That is if the wind temple base on the wind dispersal...
Man... Your videos keep getting better and better, keep up the great work!
Even in a title as kid-friendly as Wind Waker, they can't help but sneak in the creepy stuff 😅
Can we all agree that the wind Waker is one of the best Zelda games, along with OOT and obviously breath of the wild.
This installment has the best Ganon
The should have swapped the location of Gale Island and Headstone Island
If Headstone Island was about North of Windfall and Windfall being the remains of Kakariko
you could make an argument that the Earth Temple is the Shadow Temple
with the original Entrance to the Shadow Temple in OoT having been swallowed by the great flood
but it's not to be
I would love to see a triple-collab of Zeltik, Monster Maze, and Bandit, either in one long video, or 3 separate videos kind of like they've done here.
The topic? Could be Lore, could be best sidequests, not really sure. Alternatively, all 3 of them at once, making a tier list.
Personally, I think the Redeads are meant to be never aging guardians of their roaming grounds. Both in Oot and WW. One way to get this is to create zombies.
Dragon Roost Cavern and Earth Temple are my favorites in WindWaker
23:22 i noticed on my second playthrough of the game last year
that the Jalhalla carving looks like king dee dee dee's face
I love hearing elden ring music inside a zeltik video 😂
