Impulsive, with its very original name, was the original real-world design for this coaster, iirc. It's definitely the first one I ever encountered.
The vast majority of impulse coasters were like that model. The only exceptions I know of are Wicked Twister, which had two twisted spikes instead of a twisted and a straight (and was also a taller ride than the default model), and The Flash: Vertical Velocity (aka V2) at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, which had to tilt the twisted spike at an angle to satisfy local height restrictions. I re-created Wicked Twister and saved it as a prebuilt; I don't think the SFDK version of V2 can be truly re-created in OpenRCT2.
@@MarsJenkarthe new one in China has 2 twists and is taller
That microcoaster is one of the few microcoaster designs that actually looks like a rollercoaster guests would ride in real life.
Is there any of these that complete a circuit in real life? Cause I’ve never seen one. They all look like wicked twister from cedar point 😅
@@S4Meow Volcano: The Blast Coaster was the only one but it no longer exists.
There are also two coasters that have a similar design but with a chain lift instead of the LIM launch, both called Tornado.
1:20 the ASS bend is my favorite track piece
love the ass bend, so useful
"Intensity rating: Ultra-extreme"
There is an Existential Threat warning sign at the coaster's entrance.
3,600 guests per hour is a very satisfying throughput for the not at all arbitrary reason that it's exactly one guest per second.
It is very satisfying indeed, but it's also probably not exactly 3600 guests/hour as I always round for these stats.
@@MarcelVos That's ok, I trust the ~ to do the heavy lifting.
HE'S BACK!
Hope you enjoyed vacation! So happy to have you back for more excellent content
These are fun rides in real life. A pity it's hard to accurately recreate V2 from SFDK
You're right about that. Your best bet is to use the Inverted Vertical Shuttle Coaster.
Then there's Volcano lol
SFDK? Six Flags Donkey Kong?
@@MarcelVosI looked it up for you Marcel :)
"Six Flags Discovery Kingdom", previously "Six Flags Marine World" in California.
Fun coincidence, there's a Suspended Looping Coaster (or in RCT terms, Compact Inverted Coaster) there named Kong!
It's called Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. The story behind V2 being the only one of these coasters that is not vertical on its sides/turns is HILARIOUS. The city council of Vallejo likes the park, but has a height limit on all rides at 150 feet (46 m). When the ride was first made, the spikes were 186 ft tall (57 m) and when the council caught wind of it they shut the ride down and forced Intamin and Six Flags to redesign it. Most of the time the spikes need to be 160 to 180 feet so the LIM system doesn't send you off the track. The workaround was to make the spikes horizontal but longer, long enough for the LIM system to not cause you to careen off track, than the usual design. It's the only version of this coaster design like this and the modification leads to a unique experience that most consider more comfortable and more fun. I have ridden it and you get the wind blowing completely into your face and you feel like you're flying. @@MarcelVos
One thing i like about the impulse coaster is that its odd turning can help make it act like a cage around other rides; having it zip around a compact looping coaster or inverted coaster makes it a lot cooler.
I'd say it's the hybrid child of the reverse freefall coaster, the Air powered coaster, and the inverted coaster.
It’s like I’ve got my own personal Dutch Uncle giving me advice on. RCT2!
Hi Marcel, I have been crushing your video's. I got diagnosed with ALS and now only my right hand works. I used to play RCT all the time. Now I play classic a lot thanks to your vids. Thank you for giving me an idea for something I can still do. Great videos.
This is one of my favorite coaster types to use!
I would love to ride that blue coaster at 8:16 , and I think it shows lots of creativity!
That's the one in Tycoon Park, which you unlock in RCT Classic after beating all the parks.
I missed "throughpoot". Welcome back, Marcel!
The design you showed of impulsive + another hill at the top is the same type I always use, I like having it run 3 laps while going at just enough speed to make the hill at the top all 3 times, something about it feels satisfying to watch.
Marcel has been quiet so long I thought someone dropped him in a lake
thank god he's not a peep
Can definitely agree that this type is hard to build with. I like watching this series of yours so I can actually figure out how to properly build with and use each type. So thank you! Keep up the good work :)
Welcome Back Kotter! Your ride overviews are one if the best series on the channel!
Welcome back from vacation Marcel!! Hope y’all had an incredible time! Nice to see a new ride overview since I STILL play OpenRCT to this day
Yay it's here! Would be lovely if openrct2 gives other turn elements. Circulator is one of my fav designs, it's beautiful by it's simplicity and geometric nature.
**IMPULSIVE** the greatest, most unique name for an Inverted Impulse coaster ever
Welcome back, Marcel! I hope that you enjoyed your vacation, but I can't pretend that I'm not happy to have you back. Thanks for the video. Building for this coaster type was always a bit of a pain but it is just so unique that I can't help but like it.
Great ride overview! I was hoping for another of these soon, it's my favourite series of yours
Nice to see you back! Hope you had a great vacation.
Welcome back king, I like the inverted coaster because it feel small and intense and can fill in gaps in your park
4:23 that'll look epic looming over the park gates!
Glad you’re back!
I would like to know more about the splash boats' "ass bends".
I'm glad I'm not the only one who heard that...
I can imagine Marcel owning his own theme park and phoning the manufacturer for spare coaster parts.
"What the Hell are these!"
"That's what you asked for"
"I said S bends!!! S... Bends!"
I have an Intamin Impulse at my home park (Dorney Park) and it's a fun time! Obviously a 1 dimensional ride but it does its one trick very well. As a kid I tried my hardest to make a clone of Volcano the Blast Coaster in RCT2, which led to inevitable disappointment.
Wicked Twister at 0:22 is exactly what Cedar Point did with theirs until they took it down after last season.
Always appreciate when I encounter the word "tomfoolery" in the wild. ❤
Been looking forward to this one for a while, I was curious what could be said about such a limited coaster 😅
Good to hear that it is actually quite useful!
I've missed you this past while, always love your content
I miss Wicked Twister at Cedar Point! was a great one of these rides.
Good to hear your voice again Marcel! Welcome back from vacation!
1:19 - That "Ass bent" joke! 10/10
Wicked Twister spotted! An old favorite...
Not gonna lie, I expected this to be much shorter and boring but the bit about the turns versus straight piece was nonetheless quite interesting! Only you, Marcel!
Thank you for the excellent video..welcome back and happy to see this.
Little known fact, guests are more likely to buy from gift shops directly after riding an inverted impulse coaster. Why? Because they're full of *impulse buys.*
It's totally legit, trust me, bro. My uncle Chris Sawyer told me!
Welcome back! Glad to see some new videos.
Welcome back Marcel! Hope you had a lovely time off :)
Welcome back from your vacation! Hope ya had a wonderful time! If not...then maybe an amusement park of torture will change that!
Wasn't expecting a ride overview today! I now have the impulsive desire to use this thing!
Marcel's back, baby!
When his people needed him the most, he returns
Volcano the Blast Coaster was a fully-fledged Intamin Inverted Impulse Coaster, too bad we can't recreate it in the game.
I've been waiting for a Marcel Vos update.
I can just see it now, a valley of inverted impulse coasters
6:48, speaking of brakes failure, can you make a video breaking down ride breakdowns and the severity of each?
So one could say... it is... quite... good.
4:55 Don't copy that floppy!
he's back
Welcome back Marcel!
Most real world designs of this coaster also are a straight line without turns.
I actually just Impulsively (heh) built my first one of these in my Extreme Heights playthru. Stats were okay but it was kinda mid, but after staring at it for a few circuits I realized it would interlock with itself when cloned& turned 180° and now it looks sick lmao
Welcome back!
Waited and waited finally a new ride overview
nice stuff as usual
I enjoy your dry humor
He's back!
Welcome back Marcel, It's being a while.
1:20 The Ass Bend?
But yeah, the Impulse Coaster is certainly original, but also somewhat limited in how you build them. Sometimes I slam them down with a squarelike layout and place rides inside.
I always find this type annoying since it was perfect stylistically to do a Volcano: The Blast style coaster, but the limited track selection completely prevented it.
Holy Diver
This coaster type makes me think of the Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point. Too bad it was closed last I went there.
Wicked Twister at Cedar Point was an impulse coaster. Top Thrill Dragster was an accelerator coaster, which isn't featured in RCT2 (but did make an appearance in RCT3, as the "Storm Runner Coaster").
Now I want to play!
5:17 How do guests get off and on the rear-most car? Monkey bars?
Very carefully.
Carefully.
I don't know if I ever used this ride type… the game had enough limitations already
Gonna try the „quite“ drinking game on this video
Would you now say that this coaster type is at least "Quite Alright"?
Now I want to ride Possessed at Dorney
I really like the unique look of this coaster. But I'd only every build one given it's annoying building restrictions!
WOW !!!!
Hej youre back!
Marcel what are the advantages or disadvantages of having the entrance and exits on the same side of the station.
Can you do a video on the impact on entrance/exit placements at stations ?
Inverted Impulse Coaster 1 has crashed!
Man I would love for you to critique one of my parks. Be a cool video, breaking down good viewers parks.
In my city a park is building one of these IRL ☺
1:20 Yup, looks like I’m only ever going to refer to ‘s bends’ as ‘ass bends’ from now on lol
Can you do a video explaining balloons and why they don't always pop when clicked on
I usually just make two big squares next to each other and synchronise them
Wasn't there a reskin of the Inverted Impulse Coaster? I'm pretty sure it had planes instead of the normal cars and only one prebuild that actually has a similar design philosophy to 7:02 but stretched out.
I've been misreading "Multidiver" as "MultidRiver" for 20 years
1:19 love dat ASS BEND :)
I always like to use these in dual mode
finally you posted
it makes absolutely zero sense that the twists on the impulse coaster produce no lateral Gs. The coster can move laterally, therefore there have to be lateral Gs somewhere.
Nah, I think the vertical turn is in witness protection
1:21 the what bend?
Wait, doesn't the inverted impulse coaster use the same kind of track as the giga coaster? And does the regular inverted coaster not have a square track?
Giga coaster track has a triangular cross section. The inverted coaster and twister coaster tracks (both B&M) have a box spine and cross ties, so the cross section is more like a square with stuff sticking out.
Is there a maximum quantity of vomit sprites that can exist on an RCT map? If so, what happens when you hit that limit? Can you make a giant vomit corner in your park, wall it off from all the guests, then enjoy vomitless paths in the rest of the park?
Yes, this would work as there is a limit (I don't know what it is). However, it still counts towards your vomit/litter count and thus still lowers your park rating by 600.
@@MarcelVos The limit is the entity limit, which also counts coaster cars and peeps. It used to be 10000, IIRC, but in OpenRCT2 is much higher (I think 65536)
Do you have a single repository for all your track and park designs?
Can you build F1 tracks in the Go Kart?
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for this coaster and I'm not sure why. Must be how different it is from othet coasters
No offense im very glad rct2 was made because of these other few coaster types that rct1 didn't have!
But still I wish rct2 still kept the ground textures rct1 path supports that were yellow pink colorful the spinning steel mini coaster cars and the steel mini coaster higher drops!
Rct1 and rct2 forever for me!
What is the game's logic for placing different types of coaster supports?
1:20 lol
I’m pretty sure I never built this coaster type. One of three types I never touched. Never did this or powered coaster or spiral coaster.
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEEN!??
Hello everyone,
Marcel really hates the Impulsive-Design lol
So the Heartline can’t even claim being the only coaster that only takes one line. Poor Heartline.
