When the iPhone came out, and I got a unit to test, I understood right away, Apple just killed the smartphone market as we knew it. Any company that didnt adapt right away would be seeing most of their phone sales collapse. Android came out and the Nexus one. I got a unit to test, it couldnt hold a candle to the iPhone, but it was the right direction. Nokia was still trying to sell Symbian phones. They would continue to try to sell Symbian phones for years, stubbornly refusing to get onto android. Yes, it is Nokias fault. They could have saved their phone empire and jumped into Android as early as possible. There is no excuse for incompetence of a magnitude where literally everybody can see what is happening and what needs to be done, but the necessary action is delayed past complete failure.
@Helen Go as intriguing as Xiaomi's hardware offering is there must be a catch and it is their software. It's not just their intrusive ads, it's their commitment to privacy which is none. Because they want your data so that they can sell them. The ones who buy Xiaomi phones are not really their customers, their real customers are the ones who pay for the ad spots on their software ads.
They are keeping up the legacy with the best optimised hardware and software. Their phones doesn't feel like chinese phones. They are building solid premium products. First use the product, then you will know how well the phones are optimised according to their specs unlike chinese phones.
I just saw the notification and clicked. I said yesterday that it's all downhill for Nokia. They've only released crappy phones with the ugly bottom bezels in a market that's flooded with higher quality phones in the same or similar price range. So much for hoping for a premium flagship from Nokia.
@Tan Jenner I agree that was the best phone they put on the market. I also wanted one. Is is not true that you haven't been excited by anything else they've put out and that, perhaps, is the reason why you may have not yet upgraded to another phone from Nokia? Just asking.
@Tan Jenner I was going to buy a 7+ in mid-18, but found out they had the original 8 available for 25 € less, so I got that one. I sincerely loved its no-nonsense design but its (camera) software left A LOT to be desired. Recorded audio was severely distorted and unusable unless I was using all mics, so no front/back only and no third-party apps, voice recorders included. EIS was forced in 1080p mode and was awful. There was no 1080p60. Ever. Autofocus hunting was just as bad as EIS. It never got official night mode, only GCam ports. Now I have a OnePlus 7 Pro, which I bought a few weeks after its successor was out. Other than the lack of audio port, forced EIS in 30 fps mode (I shoot 60 fps) and its curved screen (I just want a flat one, TYVM) ... Love it.
I honestly don't think flagships are all that interesting - that's a limited market. A really good medium-cat phone is relevant, though. And I think that Nokia's base concept of is solid: care-free three-year warranty and updates. It's just that the phones themselves need to be a) better and b) more distinguishable in this saturated market.
@@bomcabedal IMHO every brand needs flagships to generate buzz and push innovation. I agree with your point, but it feels so much like Lumia days. Half-done, delayed or cancelled flagships and far too many phones in the 400-600 series. Lack of focus, basically. At least the rumored X50 sounds promising. Upper mid-range phones have gained lots of deserved attention. And Snapdragon 700 series finally has chips worthy of the 700 name (for example, 4 big cores of the same generation as the ones in the 800 series). But those 2-5 MP "complementary" cameras need to DIE. Drop them and make a better main camera instead. If anyone could force that change, it would be HMD. Cheers :-)
Reliability and durability my ass. There are definitely more phones they got right: Nokia 8.1, a better version of 7 plus. Nokia 6.1: Very rugged and cheap phone with decent specs Nokia 5.1 Plus: Very good price/performance but with mediocre screen.

Their phones are highly optimised rather than high specs. Look at chinese smartphones with high specs, lots of bloatwares are there with no stable OS, and lack of optimisation in software and hardware. Using the nokia phones with mid specs feels like premium software and hardware. "Don't judge a book by its cover".
Well, you should not forget that 99% of the phones coming out of China have artificially lowered price - they are heavily funded by the Chinese government.

Instead they did the exact opposite, stubbornly held on to Symbian as long as possible until their phone empire was completely dead.
There is no excuse for incompetence of a magnitude where literally everybody can see what is happening and what needs to be done, but the necessary action is delayed past complete failure.
Correction: HMD, not Nokia. Obviously HMD don’t know what is going on and they’re ruining Nokia’s legacy
Milton Keenes what about the RCA lineup?
@Milton Keenes if you want best Bang for Buck or Best Price to performance and features Poco is still king its the Flagship Killer Killer.
Hmd was created by former Nokia execs
I was in high school 10 years ago. And I used to draw phones with micro fans in them etc. People were like that's impossible blah blah blah.
My Nokia 5 was a fantastic phone but they fucked it with the brilliant updates
Cheers :-)
Flagships are a super-small market. Why would Nokia be investing money to lose money?
Reliability and durability my ass. I was so happy with my Nokia 8, up until my AF broke, my screen got a white blotch under reflector (no drops or liquid damage), and eventually suffered from infamous burn-in (retains static ghost-images for a few minutes). And all these years later they still haven't released any flagship phones (not counting a failed N9 Pureview).
Similar story here with Nokia 7.1
Hmd global is huge joke. Making Nokia phones in 2021 is not going to work. Only country where people buy Nokia phones is Finland.
You are clearly wrong. Just look at the growth of HMD from 2016 to 2021.
Nokia is still doing pretty well in the market. Nokia phone performance and optimization is great. I just understand all these bashing Nokia.
Nokia 3.4 was actually really, really competitive for the price
When I first saw the Nokia G20 and G10, I already knew my next phone wasnt going to be a Nokia
They look like 2019 phones both in terms of looks an specs wise.
Apparently they are also working on a custom skin... so that means they are already aware they are digging their grave already
Rip Nokia
so now surveillance just stepped up in a major way
I won't mind having a phone with a 3 year warranty ... as long as bugs gets resolved in timely matters which HMD Global is not known for.
Aw, I loved the Nokia number lines.
What the hell is Nokia even thinking?! XD
Nokia is flopping.
Again.
And again.
Watching this on my Nokia 5.4:💀
Surveillance marketing takes yet another step forward. How exciting.
in what way is it surveillance?
@@wheezel55 if you carry a tag, they know where you are every time.
@@yanuarmustika5816 ...you have a phone too.
So long Privacy RIP😔
Any chance of a full LG Wing review, or even some thoughts on the velvet Dual Display?
Bought myself an XR20 and am absolutely love it!!!
I'm a simple guy. Friday Checkout uploads a video. I like
Nokia is a live....
8:19 - "Flame any products that you like" - Instructions unclear, started swearing, complaining and criticizing all products. I mean...that's what you asked me to do.
Maybe Crrowd will become a social media for Tech in the future.
I thought you might talk about Google's custom chip Whitechapel
Man nokia is gonna suffer the same fate as LG if it doesn't get its shit right.
If all devices become beacons doesn't it violate the privacy of all those devices?
Of course it does! But people don't care
Xiaomi is already dominating the smartphone industry especially in pricing & marketing. This is what I was thinking about Nokia after LG left the game.
Oh nice so this channel is like weekly technews but more chill I love it 👍
Happy to hear! :)
@@TheFridayCheckout yeah I'm watching last week's video right now 😁
Just a guess but people will probably keep UWB turned off to save battery, like bluetooth.
Great news for Crrowd. Hopefully we'll see more of such features in the coming years. Also, I appreciate the lack of trackers in the app. However, I guess an alternative analytical tool could have been used instead of firebase.
Congrats!
Sad to see LG leaving. Also now we know Nokia is next. Been using the Nokia 7 plus for more than 2 years until recently switched to iPhone 11. Would definitely miss Nokia.
Watching this video, makes me realize HMD got me to a point where I'm bored about Nokia brand. I used to be worried about them. They failed too many times that I don't give a fuck about Nokia brand anymore. (I used to be a Nokia user and fan since childhood)
Nokia, Sony and HTC are next following LG's steps😂
When's the Crrowd iOS app would be released?? We need it!
Nokia = specs of yesteryear
To be honest, the 2018-19 Nokia lineup was actually good. My 6.1 still runs like new and so does my sister's 7 Plus. Even premium manufacturers like Samsung are beating Nokia in specs.
It shd be allowed to change my answers on crrowd for a limited period of time.. My one plus budZ which i reviewed glowingly has stopped supporting calls.. Tried to change the related answer on crrowd smh
Thanks for the feedback. We are planning to let you update reviews in the future!
It failed again, we were expecting the best, but it is too late
How have I not heard about UWB yet? It sounds freaking awesome!
Still got that G6 in the backup drawer! ❤️ Thanks for doing the tribute
Nokia is paid for the name. That isn't a real nokia.
HMD is really destroying Nokia 🙆♂️
Add a game in the app where people can predict/guess the specs of the device even before it's released. I wonder if it go well or wrong.
Congrats with your app, man! 👍🎉👏 Well earned, well deserved 😊👌🙌
Thanks!
I am ready to say bye Nokia again.
I'm really pissed at LG for going out 😤 , Should've just advertized more or atleast could've given us a SD 888 flagship that I could've used for the next years 😞
I think LG Velvet and LGg8 thinQ are their best phones. What do you think?
@@rmp.attackerfake9446 LG's phones were far better than chinese phones.
@@harishbista7525 I really trust Japanese brands such as Sony, LG and Kyocera. Apple and Samsung were still good. But Xiaomi phones? The older ones were great, not much bloatware and smooth. Nowadays their MIUI became heavy. Based on my experience on my little sister's Redmi 9t. I'm currently using the Xperia XZ premium.
I tried using a Nokia x6 its was decent until it started breaking down it started with the charging port it broke 3 times after that the battery became unusable and i never did any gaming on it then eventually just switched to another brand had high hopes for Nokia but the experience made me never want to go back to it again and seeing what they have released now they might as well follow lg and close the phone business
idk what happened to NOKIA!!! nokia was my first phone!! and they were awesome n unkillable. its rly sad cuz i love NOKIA, brings me back momories, nostalgia
Yes they were unkillable so they committed suicide. First mistake they made was not betting on Android. I mean come on Symbian used Java amd android also used Java Developers we're totally going to go the Java route instead of learning a new language for Microsoft Windows Phone
never gonna buy nokia again.. my nokia 7 plus had lots of issues like screen freeze, usb port problem. now its totally dead
Nokia will end like LG in a couple of years
nokia is alive as villian
Someone please tell Nokia , in cellphone business money saved is not money earned .. Perhaps lost
Watching this on my Nokia 7 Plus. Arguably the only phone that Nokia got right....although the display panel died out of nowhere...twice...but got repaired free of charge!
If I ever saw a suicide note, that new phone line up is one!
There are definitely more phones they got right:
Nokia 8.1, a better version of 7 plus.
Nokia 6.1: Very rugged and cheap phone with decent specs
Nokia 5.1 Plus: Very good price/performance but with mediocre screen.
I thought they are launching 6.3 with SD 730 with 14000 budget. I we're waiting for it, and really sucked. I want a non Chinese budget phone. Then now I should stop considering Nokia phones.
This info really depresses me.
I want a Nokia like iPhone 12 mini. Also like a super thin modern Nokia 8 with matte metal back but yet still supporting wireless charging.
Find My is a perfect way how to track someone
Their phones are highly optimised rather than high specs. Look at chinese smartphones with high specs, lots of bloatwares are there with no stable OS, and lack of optimisation in software and hardware. Using the nokia phones with mid specs feels like premium software and hardware. "Don't judge a book by its cover".
I'm not worried because Nokia added a ten-year warranty on replacement parts. And Chua I've been using it for ten years for sure.
Finally We got Friday Checkout out on Friday in India...
Quality content...
Appreciated
Oh dear 😲 Nokia
SD 480? These are probably leftovers from their Lumia days.
Maybe I'm old but a phone that could last for three years sounds amazing.
I have a bunch of them , which would you like me to name ;) .
@@mikldude9376 Haha yeah sure, I feel like phones last a year which I know is wrong. But three years is def longer than the ones I've had.
Well, you should not forget that 99% of the phones coming out of China have artificially lowered price - they are heavily funded by the Chinese government.
If Nokia ever make sd888 phone with all extras included probably will be twice the price of iPhone and Galaxy.
Nokia is diging is its own grave
Been digging that grave for around 155 years. They ain't going nowhere.
Nokia don't seem to realize that pushing out buggy Android version updates to their older phones is worse than no Android version updates.
Do you think Nokia is pulled down because of Android One? I mean using Snapdragon 480 in such a costly phone should be their choice only when it's their only choice.
If LG made the OS update pledge BEFORE THEY WENT UNDER they might not have gone under in the first place.
This was one of the reasons i never bought another LG phone after my G5 , support was very very average imo, i think LG was grasping for a life line hoping the wing would pull them out of the quick sand , but imo it was doomed to fail( i know wouldnt buy a wing ).
Had LG not blown probably a shit load of money on the gimmicky wing and just kept on focusing with the v series and better support , i suspect they may have had a chance .
Alas .
Wouldn't it be better to offer some mediatek processor thats price equivalent to the sd480 at that point?
The 480 has 5G (which carriers like) and really isn’t that bad. These new phones have bigger issues than their choice of SoC anyway
@@johnm91326 good point about 5g. I really don't know a lot about low end socs so I didn't even know which mediatek processor to compare it to but I always just assumed mtk would be better at that price point since so many budget Chinese phones use them
After buying Nokia 7.1 I am tired of constant problems with the phone that forces me to go to the service center.
Within a week of buying i had to visit the service center twice because the sim tray got stuck. Last August the charging port had to be replaced and now I am facing the same problem once again. A few days ago the battery had to be replaced. The latest issue I am facing is that the sound from the speaker is going off for some period, intermittently.😓😐
still using my LG G8S there is nothing wrong with it and hope to use it for years yet. shame as at least they always tried to do different things.
I can't helped but feel that Sony Mobile and Nokia Mobile are going to be the next LG Mobile down the line and that gonna hurts me a lot since we are going to use Chinese brands smartphone onward
please make a video on how smartphon companies are launching old chip products at higher price due to chip shortage. and is it better to wait for chip shortage to stabilise inorder to get new qualcomm chips on our midrangers
i feel sad for nokia
nokia naming scheme is similar to old motorola with e swapped with c
Pls make video about google soc
Loved my g6 - a great recommendation
