For 0-200 meter option (most situations at range, competition, HD, hunting, etc.), the UH-1 is a great choice. I prefer it over the EO Tech for warranty/customer service, price, looks and weight. It’s the same footprint, is duty-grade and does everything that the EO does.
3x is more for my aging/shitty eyes than anything. You're definitely right about UH-1 availability and pricing now tho, they're become quite rare relatively speaking.
I just bought one and also own an EXPS2-2. The way the reticule on holographics look as if it's being projected on the target is superior and quicker than LED red dots imo. The warranty and customer support that Vortex has is hands down one of the best. I purchased an old Vortex Viper red dot that was included in a used pistol purchase. I contacted Vortex just asking what mounting screws I should use for MOS plates. Customer service asked what my address is, sent me 4 sets of screws, stickers and cleaning cloth at no charge to me. I was pretty impressed seeing I didn't ask for anything and even offered to pay for shipping. They declined the offer btw. That's one thing I don't hear a lot of people talk about is the customer support and willingness of the company to help you if something does happen to the optic. Vortex has lifetime warranties on all their products and are transferable. While I don't necessarily believe Vortex makes the best of anything. I appreciate the company and I'll support great companies that look out for their customers.
also the holosun 512 is solid. enclosed emitter and also the holosun aems is real solid. smaller but for a sub gun pcc or even long gun it's pretty sweet. been messin with that lately.
I have the UH-1 and the AEMS. I have others but these two are my favorites. The AEMS is awesome. It’s only 4oz, bigger window, nice reticle, awesome battery life, etc. But I got the UH-1 to have a holographic optic and also to have something that is tougher than a Holosun. The UH-1 is a tank.
i'd recommend the primary arms cyclops 1x prism gen 2. its etched reticle and with bad eyes like me its clear, plus has diopter you can adjust the focus. DON"T recommend the 9 mm version (reticle) as it's to small. sent back and got regular one but highly recommend and at $250 its solid. i own 3 now and you can run on anything. check them out. mounting options are included. thanks i have been wanting to try one of these as i love vortex but like eotech the battery life is a killer. oh yeah the primary arms has shake awake in it. shuts off at 5 min still and on soon as ya touch it. good review, thanks.
Also own and have owned several variants of Primary Arms Prisms (and LPVO's, scopes, dots, etc). Definitely solid alternatives for folks with crappy eyes.
Go watch the torture tests that classic firearms does. Also, Sage Dynamics does a really good review with drop tests. The UH-1 is a tank and holds zero like a mfr lol.
Only person I ever heard say - they have a really bad astigmatism and use LED's over a holographic. If red dots are good for you then your astigmatism cant be too bad

Better is subjective, but I am no fan of the battery life of holographic sights, and the reticles {to my eyes at least) unmagnified look rough. They look much better under magnification tho, which means that my eyes are the reason they look shitty to me. Uh 1 is still a good optic, I was critical mainly because other options honestly just worked better for me, ymmv.

Imo 3x is not needed in HD situations. I prefer rear controls. Also nowadays it’s more expensive/harder to find than exps 2. Uh-1 is the king ✌️

512C is good, the lack of QD sucks but the optic itself is great IMO.
