Honestly? Just reading those books might've... well, disturbed me as a kid. Like probably not Actual Trauma -- I don't want to misuse that word if it wasn't true-- but like. Antpelt's death in particular freaked me out so much. The concept of being killed by your nightmares and subsequently trapped in them for the rest of your sentient afterlife? Pretty horrific stuff for an existential 10-year-old.

The themes in that book were much more darker compared to the other books in that arc if you ask me. I don't want to give the vibe that they HAVE to watch what they're posting because a child has parents that just don't watch what their doing. The death that stuck with me the most was Swiftpaw and Brightpaw getting mauled by the dogs, especially since it was described so vividly and happening to child coded characters. But that was also what made me come back to the books as an adult because they didn't dumb it down. Stonefur's public execution also stood out for me along with any Bloodclan lore they sometimes gave us. Like Barley's backstory.
I love how in the beginning, her face is scary but it's not like.. happy. A lot of Mapleshade depictions make it out to be like she's an apathetic psychopath, and ofc she is, but the way she's frowning and throughout the video, her eyes look exhausted and she slowly goes insane. It's like she's sad insane instead of happy insane... that make no sense but yeah
Depression, after being years without somebody to talk about her iner sadnesses and share about her miserable and psychotic ways of how she dealt with her relationships and her own life in general I think if she had somebody that could be like a psychiatrist or a therapist, maybe, she wouldn’t be the way she is now But I don’t know if this could be a possibility because it never happened (P.s. please tell me if I did some grammar mistakes I’m trying to improve)

I adore mapleshade a lot. Definitely a complex character. I also love the interpretations of her, because the simple truth just seems too simple to us. Her kits drowned and she sought revenge against those she believed wronged her. Some people speculate she always thought she was right, or the kits were evil, or it was just a tragedy, but she is a killer. Grief is a powerful thing, so she used her skills to kill. She was a warrior once, and she thought it was justifiable.
I love the little dead daisy on Mapleshade at the start, The same daisy that Appledusk has given her at the start, despite everything she hold on to Appledusk (or a memory left behind from when they were mates) because of her selfishness and insanity, refusing to let go even after the daisy had died. Even after the happy moments have passed.
you can see that after she gets out of the river, the daisy isn't there anymore so I'm sure Mapleshade put a new one herself to remember the good times she had together with Appledusk despite absolutely hating him for what he has done to her. Feels like she regrets the past and wishes she could've changed something to prevent all of it
Actually, there are scenes where she doesn't have it while alive, which makes me think this is just one more instance where the creator has an au where the forest makes it so that the cats within it are in constant misery (like how starclan cats are in the forms that were them at the happiest point of their lives). The flower is there, it seems, because the forest is torturing her. The flower is dead, dried up, and wilted because it's a reminder that her happiness is gone and she has no hope of ever getting it back. But hey, that's just a theory.
Ooo the twist when she turns around was so good!! Love how the scenes in the past look like an old children's show! Kinda had Kipper vibes. The flashes to it being dark and edgy slapped 👌

You portrayed Mapleshade so well! She's a terrifying murderer who would never admit her wrongdoings and probably rots in her own self pity, her kits' deaths were a tragedy but she doesn't want to admit it was her fault.

And im pretty sure four trees was a long distance away. Im not gonna say what she did was justified or anything, im just saying the river at the time was possibly the only safest way. And if she had waited for it to die down a patrol or something could have came by and either killed her or severely injured her and her kits. And im 100% sure she didnt know that the river was gonna flood, but then again this is just what ive gathered from others.

I really like the sweet and innocent little cartoon-like depictions of Mapleshade,, Reminds me of videos I'd get shown when I was 5 in school. Makes me feel nostalgic in a way, I really miss the early 2000s and being young and in a way, that's sort of how I feel that Mapleshade is being depicted; everything was so sweet and innocent until one fateful day. She's still not the victim but this does it's best to proray how she portrayed herself in the book. You did an amazing job making this seem nostalgic I love this so much

I've come back to rewatch this so many times now. Genuinely unnerving the way you've drawn this. The way the figure seems to sag like a corpse, it's just perfect. Good horror is hard to nail but boy howdy does this ever nail it.
The image in the beginning is nightmare inducing- trust me that’s a compliment. Not many things can make me fell like that. And I love how it depicts how maple shade saw herself vs how she was actually acting

I dont comment on warriors stuff much anymore, but your content is always amazing and I love this vid in particular. The flashes between a style and colors as if it would be in a kids show, and then the colors get dulled and Mapleshade, just by how unkept her fur is and how long her nails are, looks deranged, nevermind the first close up of her face in the beginning. I also really like the daisy. Her being given it, and it starts to die when she finds out Appledusk is cheating on her, then is fully dead when she's in the dark forest. All I could think that means is the daisy symbolizing Mapleshade's love for Apple (or maybe the other way around? Idk) and then its slowly decaying. All in all, amazing job on this. Is it bad that I feel sympathy for “evil” characters? First: William Afton, he lost two of his three kids, then his wife. Would you know how to handle that? No, no you wouldn’t! In my twisted mind he’s a guy that didn’t get the help he needed. Second: Mappleshade, she loved appledusk. Enough to CARRY HIS KITS! And what does he do, loves another cat, leaving her lost and broken! WHAT THE HELL APPLEDUSK! Mapleshades kits d i e d, leaving her even more broken! Again, someone who didn’t get the help they needed.
Jesus christ- this is god-teir. The cuts to the more realistic style are perfect, because it's not completely different, it's really just more detailed with a different palette. Also, somehow, the music gave me a weird eerie nostalgic feeling. Specifically the feeling of a song or movie that a more low-budget day care might put on. Don't know what that was about, but damn I love your found footage series so much. Please keep doing these.
I absolutely adore how the visuals switch between the heartbroken and misunderstood person mapleshade convinces herself she is and much more accurate take on her character, a person okay with killing people she convinces herself are evil. hence the much more detailed and realistic visuals; this is the character she is, and it's who the characters in mapleshade's vengance see her as.
I love how, idk how to put it, simple and saturated the chibi colours are. It's like how simple Mapleshade saw her situation. Relationship with Appledusk and kits = good. Getting exiled, losing the kits, Appledusk cheating = bad. That's compared to 'grittier' colours of the glimpses of realism. The whole situation is more complex than just good & bad.
I- I abselutly love this! The filter is so strong and really creates that old paper catoons vibe. I LOVE how the artstyle is so simple with dot eyes, but then as soon as things starts to go down, there pop up some creepy drawings once in awhile. The atmosphere and vibe in this video is so strong, this is probably one of my favorite pmv’s now, it gives me kind of Nostalgia with the filter and music also, cuz I used to watch old paper stop motion catoons as a kid, which makes watching this even better. Even just from the first drawing in this I already love it, the colours are so armospheric, and how simple you drew the grass, really fits with the filter, fantastic work!
Wow, this really represents her story amazingly. How she felt/feels when she died/is in the dark forest, how she felt when her kits drowned, how she was so filled with anger because of riverclan not accepting her, and in general how she quickly went from a sane happy cat to a insane murderous cat when others treated her wrongly
what i love about this metatextually is how many people in the comments fell for mapleshade's lie. in her mind she saw herself as an innocent victim of evil people betraying her, thus having a very childish perspective on her situation and this being conveyed in the art style. obviously everyone in mapleshade's novella is. an asshole. and shouldnt have banished a mother and her children. but even before her killings mapleshade doesnt seem to think about other people. a huge part of her story is how its characters are not black and white, and how mapleshade denied to the very end that her murders were unjustifiable. this video is short but WONDERFUL at conveying that theme of mapleshade being an unreliable narrator of her own story. that segment where her "innocent" image was crying into a furious, tearless snarl was what REALLY got to me about how mapleshade sees herself. anyway I LOOOVED THIIIS
That’s very interesting. I never thought of her being so narcissistic even before she killed, but she indeed was. She didn’t seem to have any sympathy for Frecklewish. for example, even before Freckle wanted to drive her out, Mapleshade acted aggressive, admitted she wanted Freckle away from her kits, and felt nothing about pretending her kits were that of Freckle’s dead brother. She did not feel even slightly bad for taking advantage of a grieving cat. If we didn’t take Mapleshade killing into consideration, I would’ve forgiven her for her actions. I believe she made mistakes and put her kits in danger when taking them out, and she was foolish believing her clan mates would so readily accept her half-clan kits. But people did wrong her, and I do feel bad for her, unfortunately she’s a terrible person and took it way too far when she decided to go on a slaughtering spree (Just finished Mapleshade’s vengeance, like, 5 mins ago btw)

Can I just say how much I love this video? The opening is eerie, I love how you portrayed the dark forest version of mapleshade! The style afterwards is cutesy, with certain parts much darker. In my opinion, the cutesy bit represents mapleshade trying to convince herself (and the reader lol) that *she’s* the victim, not those she killed, and the darker, slightly more realistic style shows what really happened. This. This is a masterpiece

The idea of the Dark Forest cats being rotting corpses is such an amazing and brilliant idea that I'm shocked that no one thought of it before.
I just love the change from this dark and well shaded art, to the color and child like style! It's just so great, and the expressions on Mappleshade is just amazing!!
I've come back to rewatch this so many times now. Genuinely unnerving the way you've drawn this. The way the figure seems to sag like a corpse, it's just perfect. Good horror is hard to nail but boy howdy does this ever nail it.
The image in the beginning is nightmare inducing- trust me that’s a compliment. Not many things can make me fell like that. And I love how it depicts how maple shade saw herself vs how she was actually acting

Nobody's gonna talk about how at the start Mapleshade's daisy begins to die whenever she sees Appledusk with another? Like it was slowly dying because of the sorrow.

I dont comment on warriors stuff much anymore, but your content is always amazing and I love this vid in particular. The flashes between a style and colors as if it would be in a kids show, and then the colors get dulled and Mapleshade, just by how unkept her fur is and how long her nails are, looks deranged, nevermind the first close up of her face in the beginning.
I also really like the daisy. Her being given it, and it starts to die when she finds out Appledusk is cheating on her, then is fully dead when she's in the dark forest. All I could think that means is the daisy symbolizing Mapleshade's love for Apple (or maybe the other way around? Idk) and then its slowly decaying.
All in all, amazing job on this.

I JUST LOVED when the style changed and at first if you haven't seen the intro you might thought that it's a kids' story with cute illustrations, but suddenly ITS NOT. Is it bad that I feel sympathy for “evil” characters?
First: William Afton, he lost two of his three kids, then his wife. Would you know how to handle that? No, no you wouldn’t! In my twisted mind he’s a guy that didn’t get the help he needed.
Second: Mappleshade, she loved appledusk. Enough to CARRY HIS KITS! And what does he do, loves another cat, leaving her lost and broken! WHAT THE HELL APPLEDUSK! Mapleshades kits d i e d, leaving her even more broken! Again, someone who didn’t get the help they needed.

Jesus christ- this is god-teir. The cuts to the more realistic style are perfect, because it's not completely different, it's really just more detailed with a different palette. Also, somehow, the music gave me a weird eerie nostalgic feeling. Specifically the feeling of a song or movie that a more low-budget day care might put on. Don't know what that was about, but damn I love your found footage series so much. Please keep doing these.

I absolutely adore how the visuals switch between the heartbroken and misunderstood person mapleshade convinces herself she is and much more accurate take on her character, a person okay with killing people she convinces herself are evil. hence the much more detailed and realistic visuals; this is the character she is, and it's who the characters in mapleshade's vengance see her as.
I love how, idk how to put it, simple and saturated the chibi colours are. It's like how simple Mapleshade saw her situation. Relationship with Appledusk and kits = good. Getting exiled, losing the kits, Appledusk cheating = bad.
That's compared to 'grittier' colours of the glimpses of realism. The whole situation is more complex than just good & bad.

I- I abselutly love this! The filter is so strong and really creates that old paper catoons vibe. I LOVE how the artstyle is so simple with dot eyes, but then as soon as things starts to go down, there pop up some creepy drawings once in awhile. The atmosphere and vibe in this video is so strong, this is probably one of my favorite pmv’s now, it gives me kind of Nostalgia with the filter and music also, cuz I used to watch old paper stop motion catoons as a kid, which makes watching this even better. Even just from the first drawing in this I already love it, the colours are so armospheric, and how simple you drew the grass, really fits with the filter, fantastic work!

Wow, this really represents her story amazingly. How she felt/feels when she died/is in the dark forest, how she felt when her kits drowned, how she was so filled with anger because of riverclan not accepting her, and in general how she quickly went from a sane happy cat to a insane murderous cat when others treated her wrongly
what i love about this metatextually is how many people in the comments fell for mapleshade's lie. in her mind she saw herself as an innocent victim of evil people betraying her, thus having a very childish perspective on her situation and this being conveyed in the art style.
obviously everyone in mapleshade's novella is. an asshole. and shouldnt have banished a mother and her children. but even before her killings mapleshade doesnt seem to think about other people.
a huge part of her story is how its characters are not black and white, and how mapleshade denied to the very end that her murders were unjustifiable.
this video is short but WONDERFUL at conveying that theme of mapleshade being an unreliable narrator of her own story. that segment where her "innocent" image was crying into a furious, tearless snarl was what REALLY got to me about how mapleshade sees herself. anyway I LOOOVED THIIIS
That’s very interesting. I never thought of her being so narcissistic even before she killed, but she indeed was. She didn’t seem to have any sympathy for Frecklewish. for example, even before Freckle wanted to drive her out, Mapleshade acted aggressive, admitted she wanted Freckle away from her kits, and felt nothing about pretending her kits were that of Freckle’s dead brother. She did not feel even slightly bad for taking advantage of a grieving cat.
If we didn’t take Mapleshade killing into consideration, I would’ve forgiven her for her actions. I believe she made mistakes and put her kits in danger when taking them out, and she was foolish believing her clan mates would so readily accept her half-clan kits. But people did wrong her, and I do feel bad for her, unfortunately she’s a terrible person and took it way too far when she decided to go on a slaughtering spree

Can I just say how much I love this video? The opening is eerie, I love how you portrayed the dark forest version of mapleshade! The style afterwards is cutesy, with certain parts much darker. In my opinion, the cutesy bit represents mapleshade trying to convince herself (and the reader lol) that *she’s* the victim, not those she killed, and the darker, slightly more realistic style shows what really happened. This. This is a masterpiece
