I’ve been a huge fan of Eddies for years, back when he had his first special on HBO. And to learn that not only has he ran so many marathons and sold out shows all over the world some in the country’s native tongue floors me! What a tremendous actor, comedian, and a humanitarian. Plus, one class act human being!
When I had very first moved into my first place, there was a copy of "Glorious" in the common living room. I watched it one day bored out of my mind and man was I sorry that wasn't the first thing I did 🤣. I have loved everything from the stand-up to the hilarious attempt to play villains (omg "Get Duked 😂) plus the social commentary is always gold.

During college I hung out with a LOT of Deaf people. My ASL was good when I transferred there but I still had a long way to go. One night I went to a frat party. I had a 2 hr conversation with 2 Deaf guys. I stood up, realized how drunk I was and realized they understood me and I understood them. I was finally fluent.
Joe often talks with other comedians about writing and honing material, but to be able to convey humor in a second or even third non-native language is the epitome of a sophisticated mind...and when Eddie relayed this aspect of his act to Joe, I think Joe suddenly felt very 'parochial' indeed, in spite of the sheer size of the U.S.A...and the audience "bio-mass" it affords touring comedians.
American stand ups are very insular, and (wrongly) think themselves as the very best. Here is an example of how far someone like Rogan has been shown he has to go to even conceptualise being a master of the craft, and worst of all, by someone who probably clashes with his ethos and makes him feel uncomfortable

English, German and French are extremely similar languages, they do share a lot of structure, for example the past tenses. Even sayings. Or words that might not seem similar at first sight. Take the word "knee" for example. Where does the K come from? The German word is Knie. So same word basically, but the K is spoken. Languages have interesting histories, especially European ones, with all the mix and match that happened

As to Learning a Language to survive, I married a Mexican Bonita Girl in 1968, I was 18 years old, in 1970's we lived in the Family Estadas and I Learned from my Vivid Dreams in which I Heard the Chatter when I was asleep and learned Spanish, Tex Mex actually it was called in 1960's, a reader's digest book was publish about that too.
