Eddie’s Dressed To Kill and Glorious are two of the finest comedy specials I’ve ever seen in a long life filled with lots and lots of stand-up. Just a personal opinion.
I was in hospital for four days, following surgery, and the entire time I was too sick and exhausted to read the books I had brought with me. However, I had discovered Eddie Izzard a year or so before, and had watched and re-watched so many clips on UA-cam, that I lay quietly in my bed, smiling, running those clips through my brain. Whenever I remember those days, I chiefly remember Cake or Death and Star Wars Cafeteria and James Bond Chuckling Like a Dog and Italians Riding Scooters. Eddie Izzard made those painful days bearable, and, in retrospect, funny.
I have never in my life seen my uncle laugh harder than he did during Death Star Canteen when Vader says, "This is not a game of who the fuck are you." Eddie's standup has gotten me through plenty of dark times and hard nights, and I so admire everything she does.

One of my favorite college memories was quoting Death Star Canteen in my Cell and Molec lab class, and my professor stopping everything to pull up the video and having us watch the Lego dubbed version. Been a fan for a long time, and I sincerely hope she's able to break through into politics. I think she'll do well...and do good.
Eddie just articulated exactly my driving force in life- to get/keep myself together so I can reach out and help others. So proud of her for lighting the way for so many!!

Here's what I love about Eddie: There is no pause between mentioning her many accolades and achievements. There are seldom any pauses for breath. She's not interested in waited for any confirmation from the audience. That they're there is simply a matter of happenchance. She simply states her case, very matter of factly, and moves on to the next subject. I have always loved that about her. Definitely on my list of people I would be delighted to meet.

Saw her perform her “Wunderbar” show in San Francisco back in 2019. One of the most fun experiences I ever had and so incredible to see a legendary comedian performing live.

Did you know that the concept of a third gender predates the written word in some cultures? Isn't that amazing? Did you know that one of the most prominent nonbinary individuals in the formation of the USA* was a Quaker, and member of the clergy? They used a singular they/them, and referred to themself as the universal friend. And they were well respected! Their pronouns, their name and their body were treated according to their wishes when they died. If a people known for being intolerant and straight laced can do this, I have every confidence that you can learn to love people for who they really are, and not resent them for the bodies they were born into. I know that learning new things is hard, and that people get aggressive when defending their right to exist, but I also know that a little patience can make all the difference. I grew up watching Eddie back home , I studied french and she impressed the bejaysus out of me doing stand up in French at a time where I could barely conduct a basic conversation, comedy in a non native language shows some SERIOUS chops. She is a National treasure!

As a 90s kid, my first introduction to Eddie Izzard was short youtube videos combining her stand up that someone "dubbed" with lego motion-pictures. It was hilarious and my parents cracked up too when I showed them. Truly brilliant stand-up

Oh definitely! I'm just glad there aren't tons of people insisting on calling her "him" or "a bloke in a dress" like happens so often online. There's so much transphobia out there lately. I appreciate that she's gender-fluid, open about it, and doesn't take it super personally when folks are unaware of that. We need more gender-fluid, gender-non-conforming, and non-binary representation, most definitely. Eddie is such a trailblazer all around.
As a trans man, I was genuinely worried, even in Stephen's comments, that some people would use the wrong pronouns just because it is a more recent development that she started using female pronouns and they might just mess up accidentally, but I was overwhelmed with the love and support for her in this comments section.
Saw her at RCMH around 2009. I have never laughed so hard in a theater or any kind before or since. A brilliant mind and gifted performer, but also by all accounts a kind and loving person. Great interview.

My mom and I used to watch her performances and nearly cry with laughter. Her humor never fails to be hilarious, smart and a touch surreal, and to this day I have a hard time serving a certain dessert without asking "cake... or death?" or serving my pup Caesar dog food without thinking of "Mr. Dog."
Once upon a time, HBO would give you a free weekend where you could watch unscrambled programming. And one fateful weekend in 1999, I saw “Dress to Kill,” and it changed my life. It never occurred to me that it was odd that she was a man wearing women’s clothes and makeup; she was so smart and funny that it never occurred to me that it even mattered.
Bumped into Eddie on her bike (not literally) a couple months ago in Putney, London. Been a big fan since the early 90s. Had a quick chat - as I'd expected, an absolutely lovely, sincere person.
If you've ever viewed any of Eddie's stand-up comedy, you will recognize she's one of the more intelligent people in the world, and would make a great parliamentarian.

Did you know that the concept of a third gender predates the written word in some cultures? Isn't that amazing? Did you know that one of the most prominent nonbinary individuals in the formation of the USA* was a Quaker, and member of the clergy? They used a singular they/them, and referred to themself as the universal friend. And they were well respected! Their pronouns, their name and their body were treated according to their wishes when they died. If a people known for being intolerant and straight laced can do this, I have every confidence that you can learn to love people for who they really are, and not resent them for the bodies they were born into.
I know that learning new things is hard, and that people get aggressive when defending their right to exist, but I also know that a little patience can make all the difference. I'm not going to argue with you. I just hope you know that you're loved, and that people will gladly answer your questions if you know how to ask them. I hope you have a wonderful December!

Oh definitely! I'm just glad there aren't tons of people insisting on calling her "him" or "a bloke in a dress" like happens so often online. There's so much transphobia out there lately. I appreciate that she's gender-fluid, open about it, and doesn't take it super personally when folks are unaware of that. We need more gender-fluid, gender-non-conforming, and non-binary representation, most definitely. Eddie is such a trailblazer all around.
