@@Andy-nv6ys you must be fun at parties. It’s a fuckin movie. Its not “my criticism”. It’s what he observed in todays world. If you’d bothered to watch the trailer you’d know HE said it. Just because someone watches a bit of stupidity from time to time or “consume” a movie doesn’t mean EVERYONE is going to do some dumb shit, not everyone is you “lmao”
Can you say "Gangsta Rap". The Glorification of Thuggery is the most detrimental agent of chaos in the American Black community, and the guys who perpetuate this lifestyle in the media (and their producers and agents) are millionaires. And the guys who live it out in Real Life are dead or in Jail or on their way to getting shot. Isn't that Ironic?
As a Black author, I feel seen. We wrestle with the Authenticity Conundrum and the theory that the only Black experience is the urban Black experience.
I think that's sort of the point. Stop being a black author, just be an author. If you're stories are good, your books will sell. If they are trash, nobody is going to care what color skin the person was who wrote the garbage.
I'm looking forward to this movie. It tackles an issue that not just black, but most minority writers and entertainers go through, that of not being recognized unless their work fits certain stereotypes. Reminds me of the real life McCondo Movement in the 90s, when a group of Hispanic writers, realizing that publishing houses in the US wouldn't translate their works into English unless they had some kind of magic realism, joined forces to show the world new stories that didn't fit into the tropes usually associated with Hispanic literature
Like...the plot is BRILLIANT but we ALSO get to see top, talented African-American actors headline a movie...a GROUP of them. This doesn't happen much anymore and it needs to happen very often. I cannot wait to watch this.
This is why I love Euel Arden's novel -- Down Here in the Warmth. It actually paints black people like ....OMG... regular people !!! In fact... even thought its a book about racial strife, it barely mentions race.
It reminds me of the Harvard educated Black man who was bird watching in Central Park. His whole life threatened (after explaining the dog on a leash rule) based on a stereotype of how Black people are supposed to be and act.
As an author who writes fiction about woke insanity (see: Campusland), I am totally jealous I didn't write this myself. Will definitely pay to see this in a theater.
Thank you sir. You speak for a silent majority who is sickened by the foolishness of both Trumpism and Wokeism. Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right.
Friendly reminder that Saturday Night Fever was fictional but sold as true until it became real. As writers we try to tell the truth until we get too bitter or broke and then our lie hits it big.
As stupid as this looks, it's not far from the reality. I'm glad they got Jeffrey Wright to do this. He's a terrific actor who's been in a LOT of diverse roles -- except for this stereotype. Hopefully that will help drive the message home.
Can never get enough of Jeffrey Wright! Always happy to see him in a leading role
Ikr? His talent is head and shoulders above Denzel and Michael B. Jordan because Jeffrey has done comedy successfully.
Wish I'd gotten to see him finish out his role in Westworld. Loved that show.
Agreed!
He's such an underused actor. I hope A LOT more people know who he is after this film.
@@Scarcro1 Denzel is the GOAT lol stop it
“The dumber you get the richer you get” that is a perfect representation of today *sigh
that is right. Idiocracy here we come!
Most of the actors in the film committed stupid things and we continue to consume them, so your criticism is hypocritical. Lmao

OMG as a black author, I felt this in my SOUL!! 🤣
As an Avid Reader, I felt this in my soul. Some of our books ain’t worth the paper. But a lot of them are amazing ❤
Same here
I think that is sort of the point of the movie. Stop saying things like, "as a black..." And instead just be an author...
@@DevotedDisciple-xthat is definitely not the point of the movie. You have no idea what you're talking about.
I love this. We need to poke holes in the comfortable bigotry and stereotypes that the entertainment industry propagates.
stereotypes exist for a reason
Isn't that basically Spike Lee's "Bamboozled"?
@@AmandaFromWisconsin "Hollywood Shuffle" did it even better.
We also need to start poking those holes in the comfortable stereotype of the Clueless White Person.
I think this is more a display of the stupidity of wokeism.
As a Black author, I feel seen. We wrestle with the Authenticity Conundrum and the theory that the only Black experience is the urban Black experience.
Absolutely. Think about all the black immigrants who weren't born here who are constantly being told that's what black black culture is.
Brother, you should see what they expect from us, African writers....O wimbowe....O wimbowe.....O wimbowe

I have been wondering when this was going to be a topic worthy of a movie. I CAN NOT WAIT!
Actually, it has decades ago in *Robert Townsend's Hollywood Shuffle* focusing on this theme in film and t.v.
This truly hits home. At first it was uncomfortable to see the truth in your face since its visual you can't escape. Will be seeing this.
This movie is an exact representation of hip hop right now
the record scratch of reality had me smiling. as did evey actor and actress that appeared. brilliance

A much needed film especially in current times
This looks absoutley brilliant, I think this might actually have a shot at Best Picture Oscar
This looks AMAZING! Listen up fam we gotta go to the theaters to watch this movie and support positive black movies and upcoming black filmmakers.
This should be a double feature with Bamboozled
👍👍
This...is...going...to...be...EPIC!!!
The 1980s had Hollywood Shuffle, the 1990s had CB4, the early 2000s had Bamboozled, and here is the 2023 version.

I love it already.
This looks great I LOVE JEFFREY WRIGHT 😊
I am sold!
Brilliant
Looks awesome. I remember watching Hollywood Shuffle which is a similar vein
I had to do a double take when I saw Adam Brody...he killed it for me I couldn't stop laughing..he's hysterical ...
People don't want fiction anymore. They want autobiographies posing as fiction.
…….Or fiction posing as autobiographies.
can't wait.
Nice!
LMAO!!!!! I am sold!
This is gonna hurt the feelings of alot of you
And Im here for your tears

NOT knowing what this movie
was all about..
I WATCHED the film.. it was good😊
I wish this movie was about hip hop instead of a book... way more people listen to music than they do read books

This is so true
How can I watch this outside of the U. S
Stagg R. Leigh!
I'm excited

Pretty much.
Jeffery + Issa???? Count me in

Just the reaction from the white folks in the reading 📖 of the book makes this Golden!
Idk. I got distracted watching this trailer. Not much interest. I'll pass. Lol.

Why is that fruit loop here? 2:06
How in the hell did this get past teh Woke ideologues in Hollywood or where they simply too stupid to see what this movie is doing?
The sad thing about the premise of this movie, is that it is not far fetched.
They need to do an panel at AWP about this movie and promoting this movie @awpwriter
