The courts in the Robin Wood are some of my favorite courts ever. I love how she put so much symbolism in their clothing, and they have such personalities. I feel like they’re easy to understand.

They really are superior. So many Courts tend to look the same, but these really seem like individuals.

I watched this video around 2 years ago and decided there and then that the Morgan Greer was not for me. I was born in 77 and found that the artwork reminded me heavily of my childhood... didn't have the best of childhoods. Similarly the Anna K Tarot was on my NO list... but nearly two years of shadow work later and I've fallen heavily for the Anna K 🥰 and just now I cannot get enough of the Morgan Greer! ❤️ It was here I saw it first (and again, your videos for the Anna K) ... thank you so much for sharing 🙏❤️

I also have this but have only just started to use it... far better so far for readings than I thought. I think the "close up" aspect made me worry I wouldn't be able to read them easily esp as I'm still a newbie

I was gifted the Aquarian in the 1980's, it was my first deck. My copy is well worn and has the same back, but without the white border. I don't use it a ton anymore.. but whenever I'm asking questions about things in my past, and how they are influencing the now, I pull it out and use the deck for any past positions. To be honest, in all these years, I never noticed the lack of sky vs pastel sky's. I feel like I have "known" these cards for so long, I've never tried to look for any deeper meanings then what I originally learned on these.

What a lovely presentation of the "grandmother's" of tarot. My 30 yo Robin Wood is my best friend and still looks brand new! Recently, I bot a copy of the companion book and had a revelation all over again. This deck belongs in every collection along with the Morgan Greer, because grannies dish out wise advise and the best cookies, all at the same time...

I've had the Aquarian Tarot on my list for so long. I really enjoy the art palette and art deco style. This is what I love about watching flip throughs...everyone is different and connects differently to decks! I have several friends that have the Morgan Greer and think that imagery is very pretty as well, love the bright colors!

You might look for the New Palladini Tarot, too -- same artist, David Palladini. Brighter color scheme, but a similar style, with the more tight-focus portrait-like scenes. The faces have more detail too.

I was given an Aquarian deck in the late 1980's by a friend. She knew me well. I fell in love with the Art Deco style & its artwork in general. Such a magical deck. It took over completely from Rider Waite Smith deck which i'd used till the. Later i bought Morgan Greer deck & it is my equal favourite deck

Robin Wood was my first deck, and still my favorite. The images are old friends. I chose it in the late 90s because the Rider Waite just did not speak to me. RW was so much more colorful, pretty, and accessible.💜

The surprise element is the exact reason why i never rehome my decks because I discovered that if i force myself to spend time with a deck say i had a bad reaction at first sight, i kinda start liking their personality and quirks. Like getting to know a person. Also i realized i change from time to time and i fall in and out of love with my decks seasonally so yeah. But thats just my way and I know not everyone is polar like me lol

I have only this year embraced the Morgan Greer - I was inspired by my mother in law who has the Morgan Greer herself, as she used to read playing cards and tarot, though she no longer does so. I have a vintage 1970s deck and it has to be one of my favourites 😊 Xx

Wow! You brought out some old favourites. My first deck was the Aquarian. The cardstock is more like cardboard with no borders on the back. I think you can still find copies of that version on Ebay. My copy of the RW is so worn, that I bought a replacement copy. Unfortunately, the cardstock has change. I have three copies of the MG. Two regular (again, one is worn out) and a tinned version. It's old school, retro vibe is still modern and relevant today. I do have a special love for the 9P.
To get a bit more information on the Aquarian and Morgan Greer decks, look into the Spiritual Tarot by Echols, Mueller and Thomsen. They provide some insightful nuggets regarding the images on both of those decks.
    Enjoy!

I really enjoyed that you researched these older decks and brought out their special qualities for us to look at and appreciate. I have had the Robin Wood Tarot since the early 90s and actually was never very fond of it. I was in a Jungian Tarot class and this was the deck that the instructor recommended. But as of late I have begun to appreciate it. I only have one other tarot deck and I am always searching for “the perfect deck” which I’m not sure exists. So your video has helped me appreciate the Robin Wood Tarot even more. And I liked the other 3 classic decks you focused on, particularly the Morgan Greer. Thanks so much Dawn Michelle!

I love each one, but my favorite has to be the Morgan Greer deck. I love the illustration quality art, it reminds me of a children's book I used to have called Leo the Lop. I think it was part of a series that included another one called Serendipity with a little purple sea dragon. I loved those stories growing up, and this deck feels very nostalgic, the Hanson Roberts deck is a little like that artwork too, now that I think about it.

Thank you for doing this video on decks that are considered to be classics! They are truly foundational and have stood the test of time for a reason. I think that in the Aquarian with some of the cards showing a white background rather than sky is depicted that way for a reason and that is "focal point stands out better against the blank white". Just a thought! These decks were all popular when I was growing up. I was born in 1954, but do remember most especially and aside from the standard Rider-Waite-Smith, the Morgan Greer with it's deeply saturated and bright colors, AND the Aquarian with the white faces and watercolor skies (in some cards; but not all of course). I think perhaps the artist might have wanted to be all-inclusive with this mind, but that's just my opinion. Out of all of these decks mentioned, I lean more towards the Morgan Greer and many of the images remind me of actual people I knew and loved as well as grew up with, so I'm a bit biased I would suppose. Again, I'm so happy to see your appreciation for these decks! Much love and peace always =) I appreciate all of my decks, both old and new!

Love any vids about vintage decks! Dawn Michelle, have you looked at the Connolly deck? It's an oldie but goody that belongs in this group too. Still in print and has several guidebooks that go with it as well. I ADORE the Morgan Greer and I used it for years before I got a Waite RWS or any other decks. I think the 9 of Pents from Morgan Greer is the prettiest depiction ever! And, hello, those manly men....yum. It's a favorite RWS clone. Also I love David Palladini's art and own the vintage Linweave deck featuring his art too. Palladini's World card and the Sun card have amongst my favorites. I love these decks! I learned on The Robin Wood. 😍 I picked up Tarot in 1996, and after my Radiant RWS went missing under “mysterious” circumstances, I purchased Robin Wood and really cut my teeth. Talk about drinking symbolism through a fire hose!! I still have my original in a special box I bought for it. I have the lwb and the longer book somewhere along with the original tuck box... goodness knows where!

I've had the Hanson Roberts deck for abot 30 years and the Robin Wood not much less than that. The Hanson Roberts is still one of my favourites and is the one I usually reach for in my daily readings. The art is so pretty (and clearly done with coloured pencil, which is my favourite medium to use in my own art). Another classic I have (actually the first one I ever bought) is the Sacred Rose. Very different imagery though still (mostly) RWS-based.

The Morgan Greer really spoke to me when I first saw it online, and it was actually the first deck I purchased last year (borderless, close-up, but mostly that amazing color palate!). I also loved the size and feel of them in my hands; fans out perfectly without being too big or slippery. I will probably purchase it again at some point, but I gave my copy to my brother who was just getting introduced to tarot, because of what read to me as a highly masculine energy from this deck. -That's not a bad thing, but this past year, I've been confronting some deep "feminine wounds" from only recently leaving a highly patriarchal religion, so I'm finding myself responding better to "Modern Witch" or even the original RWS...technically, there are the same number of male figures I think, but in the MG they are very "manly men." ;) I hope I can work with it in the future without feeling so angry, because I love the art. (A couple exceptions though where I really prefer the RWS are The Empress and the Queen of Pentacles.)

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with the MG, I agree it does that a bit of a masculine energy to it. It's a nice change for me because most of my decks lean more toward the feminine (which tends to be my preference due to my own growth work.) 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

A few comments on the decks: Morgan Greer now seems to have titles on the Majors and the Court Cards which I don't remember from before. The Hanson Roberts didn't have the extra languages printed on the bottom fortunately .- it was just the English title. Regarding the Aquarian deck, it always felt to me that when the white background was there, the person or situation was covered with a cloud of (their) thoughts or even a single focus. The World had just a small white archway but the rest of the background was coloured - rather like a balanced aura! The Wheel of Fortune had a square of white. The pinkish mauve background felt like the heaviness of emotions. Interesting that the High Priestess might have been the only one with an actual real background (balanced between material and physical?). Although the card backs are blue and in those days we never put the cards right way up, they symbolised all sorts of patterns to watch for when the cards were turned over. Indeed the patterns on some of the cards are quite attractive. The Robin Wood Tarot was one of the first decks that I remember that introduced nudity - and everyone was OK with that because it was presented so well.

Really enjoyed your take on these 4 decks. The Aquarian Tarot is on my list and has been calling to me a lot lately. Now I get why that is a bit more and will bump it further up to the top. I have the Morgan Greer and do like it but I ended up with the mini by mistake and don’t feel that size does the art justice. Again have been feeling the pull lately to bite the bullet and order the larger size so I can dive in with it. Seeing your full sized deck shocked me as so many cards I hardly even recognized! So another bump up the wish list for this one. The other other two decks I don’t own but have seen around. I’m drawn more to the Robin Wood after your review. Was struck by how it reminds me a bit of the Greenwood Tarot, one of my all time favorite decks. Wondering it was an influence on Mark Ryan and Cheseca given the similar titles? Your lighting is excellent and makes your videos a joy to watch. Great insights on all these classics. Thanks for sharing.

The Hanson Roberts was my first new tarot deck I bought in 98 and I used it to help get me out of religion that I was in. I’ve had the Morgan Greer for over 20 years and finally broke down and bought me a new deck because the colors had faded too much and I wasn’t using it much because it was so faded so the new deck made a big difference, although I kept my older deck because it has been with me so long.

I despise the bright yellows that overrun the classic RWS (which I studied for a few weeks and then IMMEDIATELY eschewed) but it works for the Morgan Greer.
I have a question, do you have sensory issues or arthritis? I just realized you always pull your sleeves Almost completely over one hand in your videos and I have sensory issues and do that, too (not when I do tarot because I have tiny hands and the exposed skin helps with grip better, rather than fabric) but I just noticed it. 💕
