Many people ask that question :) I'm supporting the tuba with the left arm. That way my right arm is free to leave the valves as it wish. I feel that the fingers can move faster and more freely when the thumb is not caught up in the thumb ring carrying the weight of the tuba. As you can see it also allows me to move around a bit more than usual. I could have used the left hand, but this way I'm holding the tuba in a firm but still very relaxed way.
I have adopted this, because I suffer neck issues, sometimes it’s painful to have to support and play using mainly the right arm, since I switched from a piston tuba to a cylinder tuba, and use my left arm to support the tuba, I feel less pain and my right hand can freely play
I was delighted even at the end when he invited the pianist to stand an be applauded, and she modestly declined. It was charming, on top of that fabulous playing.
I , and a few other tuba players had lunch Mr. Baadsvik the following day, what a pleasure to be in company and talk about the tuba, and his views on practicing nine hours a day, A great performer!!!!!!
the stuff starting at 4:00 is probably the most amazing thing i've heard on tuba. how in the world does he play that so fast with those big interval jumps in the middle of it?? and he's so humble. i could only wish to get a tiny bit of his talent. wow...
Baadsvik is Tuba god. If you thought this was fast and unbelievable, listen to his arrangement of Winter on his Tuba Carnival CD. Just listening to this man inspires me to want to practice my butt off to even begin to approach his greatness.
I play a Miraphone Eb tuba prototype called Starlight. It is just made available. Everyone regardless of tuning plays the same fingerings on this tune. That means different keys. Don't think it is possible to do it in another key...
Baadsvik is the greatest tubaist in the world. I am completely blown away at the musicality and virtuosity of his playing. WOW! To tubagod88 & MCordon1: I don't know what Mr. Baadsvik plays all the time, but... From page 11of the booklet included with my copy of the BIS CD "Tuba Carnival" (BIS 5179784): INSTRUMENTARIUM Tuba: HirschbrunnerE flat, rotary valves Mouthpiece: B Titz Nea 3 Cheers!
I had the pleasure of seeing Mr.Baadsvik play at the Univ of South FL last month. It is really incredible to see Fnugg performed live. In addition to his musical virtuosity, he entertains with humorous stories, and he comes across as being very modest.
I've seen both performers play several times and I have to say, the performances were so excellent, arguing over who is better is arguing semantics. I say call them among the best in the world and leave it at that.
I was lucky enough to see baadsvik's master class and his performance of the vaughn williams concerto for bass tuba in January at the Tuba Euph conference and he blew my mind live.
hey im a trumpet player as a hobby and you truly impressed me. I've heard a lot of trumpet rendetions of this piece and all i can say is my "God"...u r amazing..
He inspires me so much to continue the tuba, but at the sametime he holds me back, since his tallent is so unachievably good! I'm still trying to smooth out Waltz for Mippy III.
ive been playing the trumpet for a long time and have just started playing the tuba... this certainly is inspiring stuff for any tuba player...especially me!
Baadsvik is truly amazing. He is by far the best soloist out there. I am mad that I missed him when he was in Orlando last year. And he plays on his own model Miraphone Eb. I believe it is called the Norwegian Star or something like that
that was freaking insane...somebody who doesn't play a wind instrument could comprehend how impossibly difficult that piece is. flawless tounging and expert tone, i'm blown away
At 1:13 some times it makes me so mad that he just relaxes after a solo like that. Just sits back and chills like it was nothing. Wish I could do that. But absolutely love Baadsvik. My lessons teacher told me about him and wow I was inspired to try my hardest after that. Thanks for much!
RI.DIC. U. LOUS. His virtuosity with an instrument that requires so much breath and embouchure control to produce crisp notes is sickening... I'm both jealous and amazed.
OMG ... Carnival of venice on Tuba you are the best dude... i know its very hard to sign something fast like this on very slow instrument like tuba... you are the best dude
If anyone has had the pleasure of playing either the Starlight or Norwegian Star you would see they horns play extremely well in tune. The recordings dont do Mr. Baadsvik justice ... I heard him in Carnegie Hall last year and wow ... keep setting a benchmark for us tubist Mr. Baadsvik !!
I'm a huge fan sir and I aspire to reach your level of knowledge and entertainment IT factor I play along to this and Fnugg everyday thanks for the inspiration Mr.Baadsvik
This is absolutely great. I'd say that Oystein Baadsvik knows all the notes. the triple-tongue technique is difficult to do this piece justice on a Tuba. he does it very well.
I wish that I had something witty to say, but I can't get past wow .... wow .... wow This makes me smile from ear to ear from beginning to end - amazing.

Interesting, I'll try that sometime

Albert Rogers To shake her hand.. "Hey I know you helped and all but applaud for me!"
Da piano part is ez dood
I , and a few other tuba players had lunch Mr. Baadsvik the following day, what a pleasure to be in company and talk about the tuba, and his views on practicing nine hours a day, A great performer!!!!!!
Wait nine hours
9?
Only 9 hours??
Every day?
bruh, I can hardly last on a tuba for 1 hour, let alone active playing
holy crap
Baadsvik is the tuba god
You've never heard or Clayton Caps? He is a great Tuba player
If I’m not mistaken he plays French horn and he’s playing tuba only because that’s all they had an opening for
@@justaguy3875 no
unbelievable, the last 24 measures sounded like there was 2 tubas onstage, jesus!
If done correctly the last movement should sound like that.
the stuff starting at 4:00 is probably the most amazing thing i've heard on tuba. how in the world does he play that so fast with those big interval jumps in the middle of it?? and he's so humble. i could only wish to get a tiny bit of his talent. wow...
Incredible tuba player. Best tuba player on the planet right now and second best tuba player to ever live in my opinion.
I Truly Agree
Might I ask who you think is the best ever?
Samuel Swiercek Who is tge first then???
Arnold Jacobs, John Fletcher, Roger Bobo, or Harvey Phillips probably.
Roger bobo is best
Is the tuba okay...?

HI MICHAEL

The last variation.....it's insanity.
holy crap dude that is the most amazing double tonging i've ever heard in my life and it's really clean and not distorted either. great job

Show
Watching this on 2x speed is the most mind blowing thing I've ever seen
I'm not watching this at twice the speed?
OH MY GOOOOOOOOD
+Kyle Rice he goes so fast that at the end you can only hear the "loud" notes
He can probably actually play it double speed
I just want to say that that is some of the best piano playing I've seen in my life!
I heard this dude ate a girl out once.... she had to go to the hospital
she didn't make it
Lmaooooo😭😭😭
You know that double touching is different, right?
I love this piece so much. He is amazing.
This man is a Inspiration, he’s so talented and his music is unbelievable, one day I wish to meet him 🤗

Surely the best tuba solo of all times! The tuba makes me happy...so you can imagine...I am beside myself, whenever I listen to this video.
Played with technical excellence, spirit, and humor. Incredible!
Just the most perfect performance I've ever heard!
Can't stop watching...truly amazing.

That insane double-tonguing... 0.0 I am in awe. I bow down
I've seen both performers play several times and I have to say, the performances were so excellent, arguing over who is better is arguing semantics. I say call them among the best in the world and leave it at that.
First time I've heard it on a tuba. Usually on cornet or trumpet.
Brilliant!!!!
I was lucky enough to see baadsvik's master class and his performance of the vaughn williams concerto for bass tuba in January at the Tuba Euph conference and he blew my mind live.

"The Carnival of Venice" is a folk song.
You know, "My hat, it has three corners?"
that was freaking insane...somebody who doesn't play a wind instrument could comprehend how impossibly difficult that piece is. flawless tounging and expert tone, i'm blown away
id never think id hear the variations on tuba... outstanding

Baadsvik !!
