Nothing crazy of a tutorial but I’ve been asked about this so I’m showing you my method and hope it’ll help you oye when upscaling your 1080p footage to 4k! 😁
Thank you! Nothing crazy of a tip but apparently a common question I get asked haha I’ve noticed that using my s&q slow mo for the a7iv 120fps has been pretty solid! Upscaling it has been quite nice when I don’t want to use two cameras!
@@dericsanchez4081 for video I use my a7siii mainly honestly. And for photo my a7iv. Unless I need some extra b roll and don’t want to change lenses I just shoot with the a7iv a bit.
Thanks a lot. I want to have a 4K timeline but for cinematic slomo shots I need to shoot 60-120 to slow that down even tho I can’t with my camera in 4K only in 1080. This way the slomotion shots will have pretty much identical quality. Thanks man
can you do the upscale using filmora software? i am debating between zve1 and a7c mark 2. if i could do a reasonable up scaling using filmora software , i will get a7c mark 2
I’m not familiar with the filmora software honestly so I couldn’t comment on that but to be honest if you plan to do any photography then the A7cii will be superior. I love mine that I got months ago and paired with the zve1 is the compact content creation masters combo haha
When i record in 1080p 120fps why does the playback not slowmotion? Is it something i have to do manually in post edit? Because when shooting with canon 1080p 120fps it is automatically playback in slowmotion.
Appreciate this'd you know how it would be done in Final Cut Pro,i use most adobe software, but for editing I use davinci, final cut and after effects only, not premiere lol
You could just go to the settings of your video on your effects tab or something where it has scale and simply double the number there! Haha it should help!
So if I film in 180p 120fps for s&q, it can get upscaled to 4k and still it slow down without it looking bad? The time line frame rate is 120 aswell right? Cuz I can only shoot at 4k 24fps on my as73. I guess my question is what happens to the timeline frame rate?
If you’re shooting with the s&q mode you can select for it to slow it down for you to 24fps from 120fps which slows it down and don’t need to do anything in post on your timeline. As long as your timeline is 24fps then you’d be fine! Here’s a video on how I set up my s&q slow mo so that it’s smooth ua-cam.com/video/AESmx3eXABw/v-deo.html
Nice tutorial. Regarding set to frame size vs scale to frame size, it makes sense not to 'scale' 4k footage down to a 1080p timeline, because you don't want to 4k footage rasterized into 1080p. But I'm confused as to why this wouldn't be a benefit the other way around. Wouldn't it be better to have 1080p footage be rasterized 'up' into 4k, vs scaling to 200%? Because at the end of the day, scaling past 100% is what makes it lose quality in the first place right?
From what I can remember right now with rasterizing you lose quality when you rasterize from 1080p to 4k. I’d look up the rasterize calendar scaling difference to see which works better for you!
When scaling footage larger than 100% you need to use the sharpening Directly on the Clip. I once Used sharpening on a 4k adjustment layer ontop of a 1080p Clip scaled to 200% and it really exaggerates the pixellation of the lower res footage
@@imranalijafar I’d honestly invest in the a7iv if you can. It’s so much better for long term than the a7c. The only cool thing about the a7c is the size haha

Great tip! I agree with what you said. I don’t think really anyone would be able to tell the difference between native 4k and upscaled 1080p.

@ how is the stabilization on a7c mark 2 in video?
@ it works pretty good! Won’t be as smooth as the dynamic active stabilization of the zve1 but works well!
Newbie here, thank-you! So for workflow do you edit/luts before or after you upscale it? What's easier on the computer?
I always upscale my footage first and then do any edits to the footage after with my colour grading and luts! Just what works for me
Hey Kevin, thank you for your video. I tend to work in a 1080 timeline but export it as a 4K clip
Awesome! Does it affect your quality doing that? Haven’t done that before that I can remember so curious!
@@EasyTigerCreative I can not remember, where I got this this tip from. But it works fine in terms of quality. You should do a comparison video 😂
@@eike.zender I’ll have to check it out and test it out 😁
Hi, would you have an A7 IV over an fx3 if stills weren't a deciding factor?
If you’re not planning to really take photos, I’d look at the fx3 for videos by far!
Thank you

So that only happens when you shoot in s&q mode where it’ll do it for you. If you shoot it it normal video mode you’ll have to do it in post!

Good morning for everyone. Can we use sharp effect to get a better picture quality? Thank you.
I don’t really sharpen it because I feel it makes it lose quality relatively. But I’m sure a little bit never hurt!

I’ll have to try that out! Usually those type of adjustments I use directly on clips so I’ll have to see!
does 1080 p cropped 120fps has active steady Ibis ?
It doesn’t. At least I couldn’t find a way
