Dennis always looked like he was about to completely lose it and ruin the song when he drums, but man that's just his style! He beats those drums like they owe him money
Dennis was killing it on the drums. Carl was an amazing guitarist. Mike was havin fun, they all looked like they enjoyed this. But poor Brian looked like he didn't wanna be there, but loosened up at the end.
Self taught drummers are amazing they’re not held back by theory or rules they have there own original style of playing and isn’t replicated, Iv read a quote somewhere were another drummer once asked Dennis how he could improve his technique and become a better drummer, and Dennis told him “Don’t worry about it just play your heart out and everything will fall into place” he’s very underrated member of the group
Probably their best rendition ever- They were all on fire and in top voice and Denis just banged the drums till his arms were ready to fall off at the end. They had the Brits in a frenzy-not all that easy to do.
Sat next to Dennis on a bar stool at The Sunset Saloon in Venice the night before he died. Dennis lived on his boat over in the Marina but hung out at the bars in the Square at the end of Washington Ave. in Venice. He was usually just one of the patrons and not a fan of the hoity-toity restaurants in the Marina.
This was the first show that I ever saw of the Beach Boys live back when I was 13. I still go to it as the most "rockin" Beach Boys show they ever performed. It was a mix of their classics with 80's hard rock guitar. Remember they were competing with the hard rock of the 70's and the beginning of the hair band rock of the 80's. I think that anyone who hears "I Get Around" from this show will be surpised how it rocks!
I will never forget this night ...it was the greatest night of my life...I came over from Ireland to see my band the Beach Boys....they didn't dissapoint...how could they? .. Still love them. ❤
Amazing history. To think that Dennis would not pass away for over another three years and yet this is the last time the three Wilson brothers played together abroad. Fabulous show for the voracious English audience. The Beach Boys played in front of huge crowds, sometimes over 1 million for example on July 4, and always delivered. Very few bands can say that. Sadness is what I associated with the last time I saw Dennis, summer of 83 on the Atlantic City beach along with nearly 3/4 million other people. He was near the end by then. Proud that I got to see Jimmy Page play with them on July 4 in Philly 1985 before they went down to Washington for the second huge concert of the day. Few weeks before live-aid. I think Jimmy was still struggling with the H, but commented on what an honor it was for him it was to meet Brian and Carl, and apparently got along really well with Bruce Johnston, becoming lifelong musical friends. Jimmy always a gentleman. Beach Boys just legendary. Just saw Brian again, Sits on a wheelchair behind the piano and use a walker to get off and on the stage, but I still appreciate that I can hear him play for at least a little bit longer.
I saw the Beach Boys perform in the early 1980s before Dennis Wilson died. I had a pair of binoculars and was watching Dennis play the drums. He had a large bottle of whiskey next to him and looked rough and only played the first half of the show. Someone else came in and played the rest of the show. He seemed like such a sweet guy but had a lot demons.
@@petestaint8312 That’s cool. I hope all the surviving official members reunite for a 60th anniversary tour. I hope Blondie and Ricky rejoin the group as official members. I hope John Stamos and Christian Love become official members. Why I hope it happens because John Stamos is good on Dennis’ vocals and Christian Love is good on Carl’s vocals.
Here's the first hand info on the KNAK connection from her friend Becky: "Shirley Johnson England is my neighbor and a very close friend. I have heard this story from her firsthand. She did go to the library, however she didn't take the T-Bird straight back to the radio station like she was supposed to. Her dad, Howard Johnson, the owner of KNAK (a very popular radio station with the teenagers and early 20's crowd) did like the Beach Boys very much, so they came to Salt Lake fairly often and he promoted them a lot. Mr. Johnson was also on the staff at the University of Utah, so he had a very desirable parking pass on the T-Bird. I think he was on the faculty, but I can't remember for sure. That's why Shirley had the T-Bird. After she was finished with her classes she would drive to the radio station and give the T-Bird back, then take her car. She was inside the radio station around the time she got grounded from the T-Bird and the Beach Boys overheard her talking about it with someone. They asked her for the whole story. The lyrics to that song were literally written in the backseat of a car on the way to the Salt Lake Airport. I don't know why Mr. Wilson would find anything about that song inappropriate, but I guess I know Shirley and he didn't. I may not have been born yet, but I know that Shirley wasn't "that kind of girl". She loves to play pranks and have fun, but it's all good, clean fun. If it's true that she fell in love with a guy in 1964, then that would be her husband whom she has been married to for over 50 years. She thinks it's hilarious that her grandchildren think she's famous! I tell her that they are right." PS, the car the Fun Fun Fun was written in was Bill Hesterman's Cadillac convertible.

Happy Birthday to Mike Love, ironically the least loved Beachboy, who is 80 yo today, Mar 16, 2021. When you stop to think about how old all these musicians are getting, makes you realize that this era was a Long Time Ago.
Hi. I've only just gotten into the Beach Boys after watching this concert, and all I read in the comment section is hate towards Mike. Can anybody explain why? TIA
john conboy he reportedly was openly against all of the experimental music they played in the mid-to-late 60s, as exploiting their legacy to become a purely nostalgia-based touring band. He is also the mastermind behind The Beach Boys’ worst album “summer in paradise”

Mike Love really should have been kicked out 50 years ago. He's been credited with some songs, but he's got no place on stage nor behind a microphone! It is a pathetic nuisance to listen to and watch with his silly hats and veeery tight trousers. The rest of the guys are true musicians AND they can sing, especially Carl.

I agree Carl Wilson was a great musician vocaly and guitar loved him he is sorely missed xxxxxx😎
Goddam right
Not in my book!!!

Yeah, as we know Brian was never one to like touring, still doesn’t change how great he is.
They all killed it
Dennis gets a bad rap for his drumming, he was self taught and played with grit and heart
