A Visit From The Whip That Changed My Life - 7 Years Later

  • 7 years ago I uploaded a video tutorial showing the steps taken to make a paracord bullwhip during that time of my life. The video grew to a level that I would have never imaged, and has changed my life. In this video, the whip is sent back to me for a repair. We'll give the whip a tuneup and getting it cracking again.

Very cool! I'm glad sending this whip back for a repair meant to much to you! It certainly is a piece of history and an awesome one at that! It certainly means a lot to me so thanks so much for the shout-outs and giving the whip a much-needed tune up! Seeing it so worn out for so long was so sad so I knew I had to get it out and back to it's former glory! Can't wait to get it back home! -Ryan

      Love the video
      Few questions
Do ya need to cut the butt inch off or just wrap it?
Could you use whole 550PC rather then gutting it? I know it wouldn't be as flat, but in survival mode ya got a bunch of paracord to unwrap whip if needed.
Thanks in advance for the answers. Love your work.

Easily one of the coolest vids on UA-cam simply for nostalgia and inspiration. Your methods weren't perfect back then, but this is proof they worked and were/ are effective even now. Im in the navy so this is a hobby I don't get to enjoy all of the time whenever I want, but you helped solidify my ease of staying in the hobby. Thank you!

7 years ago i was in college, i barely knew my wife. Basically i was a worries free boy. 7 years later, inside i'm the same boy, but now, with a wife, a 4 yo kid (best thing that ever happend in my life) a full time job, and paying the usual bills. Sometimes i wonder when this big chage happend. It seems that yesterday i was a kid and today just transformed into this grownup....you know?

Not going to lie Nick, this video made me cry. It brought me back to a very different time in my life. I remember the first time I cracked a whip. I was 12 years old at my grandparents house. I had just finished making it after watching your video and I ran outside to try it. Hearing the crack for the first time was an amazing feeling of accomplishment. Thank you for these videos, they’ve made such a difference in my life as well as many others. I haven’t cracked a whip in years but maybe it’s time to break them out again.

Man that whip. I spent 10 hours straight through the night rewinding section of that video and finally ending with a whip that I was very proud of. I think I was a junior in high school my dad was more than happy to support the hobby. I now have several whips and look forward to making more and collecting more. Look forward to meeting out one day at a meet up or something to thank you personally. Thanks!

Nick it is so strange that you just made this video because I was just reacquainted with several whips that had given my dad and my brothers several years ago. Over the weekend I made a trip to North Carolina and it does give you a strange feeling of finding a long lost part of you. Each one is special in it's own way. Thank you for all the memories and the knowledge to make whips of my own to be able to share them with my family.

Heya Nick, I'm following you after this video because I watched you make this whip last night, and today, UA-cam (in all its wisdom) has put this in my feed, and I've got to say - damn nice to see such love from both owner and creator. Ryan got lucky and bought a piece of memorabilia that has inspired many people to want to build their own whip, and from the sounds of it, has helped plenty of people as well. Honestly mate, I think if the whip still lives in 2027 (which I'm almost certain it will) you should offer Ryan a free repair and make a third video for us. Ryan invested in a product of a novice that helped develop a master. You make such passionate and informative videos that I now believe my life won't be complete until I at least attempt to build my own whip. Your calm and cool approach along with your positive attitude is probably the reason why I can watch a one and a half hour movie with no action in it at all, and not even be mad about it.
We love your work mate, thanks for taking us with you.

When i first learned to weave from your first tutorial back in early 2019 i was mad at myself for not skipping to your 2018 tutorial. Now that ive been at it a year and a half im glad i started there as it allowed my learning curve to be sharper than it would have been if i hadnt been walked through some minor faux paus with such confidence. Watching the 2018 tutorial for my second whip saw so much improvement to my work that i was inspired to keep honing my skills. Once i was comfortable with the quality of my work i started selling them. Now i sell whips as one of my forms of income

Hey Nick, don't mind being emotional about that whip. It is good to see a nice fellow who appreciates his own journey, without being boastful about it. I also started to experiment and make my own whips because of your video, like many others. I am trying to adapt it to the Hungarian way of whipmaking and - besides the curses due to some unavoidable failures of a beginner - I really have fun all the while. It became a new hobby and joy, for which I'd like to thank you. (You have a great voice for your own commentary, if you ask me, kind of a relaxing tone. Keep it up!) All the best!

Can you please tell me, for example, do you lay the first layer of weaving with a 5 foot thread, do you make the thread along the floors, or should there be 5 feet on each side, that is, the handle of the whip should be 5 feet on both the right and left sides? Or is one thread of 5 feet taken and divided in half?

    • @NicksWhipShop
      @NicksWhipShop  3 роки тому

Hi, all strands are folded in half. If a strand is for example 10ft, then it is folded and there are 5 feet on the left and 5ft on the right.

Very interesting vidwo. Unrelated, I have watched many of your videos and on one of them, I saw some links to Amazon where you may receive some compensation on my order if I click through to place an order. I can't seem to find those links --- and I would like to --- because you have inspired me to try and make a whip. Something I have always wanted to do ( ever since I acquired the book from Ron Edwards on whip making. Can't justify the cost of kangaroo hide but can afford paracord.

Seriously. Yes, some people historically have died from lashing with a cat o Ninetails, but I don't know that anyone's ever died from a whip who wouldn't have died by some other means had a whip not been handy. Usually a sword. We're talking Roman Empire. As weapons go, whips are REALLY inefficient.
